“You mean nothing to us, Mr. Thompson. The only reason we agreed to work with you is because of Molly,” Santiago replied. I was hurt, but then, Molly knew nobody, so why did her ex suddenly have to show up, and now Don Black wanted her too?
“What makes Molly so special? Let me guess, you want to eliminate her or subject her to a worse fate, right?”
Santiago’s expression and that of his bodyguards changed as he walked back to me.
“Not even I know why Don Black wants her too, but I don’t think it’s what you think. Be careful with your mouth, or it might get you into serious trouble.”
I didn’t know what I said wrong, but he was already gone, which meant I couldn’t ask any more questions.
Now, with Molly coming over with Don Gio, it was better not to see them, especially when even Santiago did not want to. Don Gio was too powerful, but somebody needs to bring him down from his high horse.
I sent the location to them before dressing up and leaving for the office. Oh, Molly. Just wait until I meet you again without that demon by your side.
For now, I have to find someone I can trust to keep an eye on Don Gio and know when he’s away from Molly. The more I can find out about him, the better it will be for me.
Giovanni’s POV
The moment Molly answered the call, I suspected the asshole, so I took the phone from her with one hand as my other hand controlled the steering wheel.
After the call, we dropped Roger off at school. “Dad, is Molly in trouble?” Roger asked. I was surprised that he cared for her, but it was expected.
Roger was many things, and sometimes, I felt like I failed as a father, and other times, I felt proud of myself.
However, I was afraid he might be doing it to win my trust before making things difficult for Molly.
“Focus on school, little man. I can take care of Molly,” I assured him. He ran off to class after another glance at us.
“He sent the location, and it’s a popular restaurant, mostly crowded,” Molly complained, but I sensed her fears.
“Are you afraid of him?" I was quite disappointed that she was, but I could understand. "You don't have to be afraid of that jerk when I'm with you."
When the reason for her fears settled, I was disheartened, but maybe she still didn't know me as well as she thought.
"I just hate to trouble you so much. Ever since meeting you again, you have saved me from one problem to the other, and I don't see my value to you."
"Taking care of Roger is enough for me,” I assured her.
I couldn't let her know how I always wished for Roger to have training from both sides.
He needed a mother to teach him the things only a mother could, but then again, there were orphans who made it through life and still turned out as remarkable people.
The restaurant was crowded, just as Molly said, but before we got a seat, a girl of around six years ran to our side and handed over a box to Molly.
She was about to open it when I held her hand. "Wait. Do you know what it is?"
A faint smile stretched her lips, and her eyes turned teary. "This is the heart bracelet."
Before I knew it, the girl had already disappeared among the crowd, so I insisted. "Still, let me open it. In case of anything, I trust you to take care of Roger."
Confusion shone on her face, but I didn't expect her to understand anyway. Sometimes, bad people could plant bombs in things like these, and I didn't want her to be affected by it.
As expected, Wesley had installed a tracker in the bracelet but it was nothing I couldn’t handle.
"I guess it's clean." I gave it back to her after deactivating the tracker and ensuring there was nothing else. Her eyes turned teary at the sight of the heart bracelet.
It wasn't something too expensive, but her expression showed it came from her mother or father.
"Here, let me help you." I removed and clasped the bracelet onto her wrist and saw her smile.
"Mom gave this to me on my sixteenth birthday. I used to wear it on every one of my birthdays," she explained. I understood why she got emotional.
“It looks good on you," I said sincerely, admiring the smile on her face as she glanced around curiously.
"Wesley isn't here."
The realization struck me that he had sent the bracelet through the girl to avoid me, and it seemed that things would have been different if I had allowed Molly to come alone.
How clever of him. "Since you've got what you came for, we should leave, shouldn't we?"
She nodded with a smile. "Yeah, let's go." Just then, my phone rang, and seeing Marie's name, I sensed there was an issue.
"What's wrong?"
"I can't get in. I've tried everything, but all I get is a 'no vacancy' response," she reported. I pondered for a moment and advised her, "Try again in a week."
I needed her to infiltrate Wesley's company, but it seemed I would have to find another way to get her in.
As we settled into the car, I messaged Hank, ‘I need to see you.’
As my closest friend, he was the perfect person for this task. ‘I'm in the middle of something. Can we meet at lunch?’ he replied.
‘Sure, see you at lunchtime.’
Back at the office, Hank arrived during lunch with news. "I have a feeling that Don Black might be someone Molly knows. You should ask her."
