                    Giovanni’s POV
Even after I threatened my mom to harm Nicole, she remained unrepentant, so I was determined to show her my true intentions until she brought up Molly.
“You think I don’t know about Molly? Octavia is graduating from college in two months, as you are already aware. I don’t expect you to choose Molly over your wife. Gio, if you defy me, I will make Molly’s life miserable.”
She sounded like she cared about Octavia, but I knew she didn’t. It was because of her that I had to send Octavia to school in another state, but everything became clear.
My mother despised Molly so much that she would rather have Octavia, but she misunderstood. Everyone misunderstood because they don’t know anything about my relationship with Octavia.
I immediately smashed the phone on the ground. This is why I distanced myself from my mother early on. Her controlling behavior of always trying to have everyone under her wing was exactly how she got my father killed.
I would have also perished if my brother hadn’t saved me. Everything was my mother’s fault, but since she mentioned Molly, I was willing to use Nicole as a scapegoat this time.
“What do you want to do?” Hank asked, and the thought of the person feeding my mother information crossed my mind, and I wanted it to stop.
“Cut her tongue since she's not willing to confess.”
Nicole was in tears, but by now, she should have understood that my mother was not going to save her.
She had to either reveal my mother’s plans or face the consequences. If I had to relocate Molly to my office and accompany her everywhere, which was impractical, I might as well consider it.
“No, Gio, please don’t do this,” Nicole pleaded, but I knew she wouldn’t confess because she was trained not to yield to torture.
“Proceed, Hank,” I ordered, and as soon as Hank grabbed Nicole’s hair, my phone began to ring. Glancing at the caller ID, a frustrated sigh escaped me before I answered.
I hoped my mother wasn’t the one who pushed her to call, especially when knew how tight my mornings were. Octavia knew the right time to call me and late mornings or afternoons wasn’t it but I answered. “Vanni, I miss you,” Octavia said on the other end of the line. I was too exhausted to respond.
“I'm very busy, Octavia. I will call you later," I replied and was about to end the call when she spoke from the end of the line.
"I have a surprise for you this weekend. Do come early," Octavia continued, but I remembered Molly agreeing to start working out and wanted to use the opportunity to train her.
The weekdays were too stressful, so the weekend would be the best time if she were to begin tomorrow as she said.
"Octavia, I'm sorry, but I can't make it this weekend. I have to spend time with Roger too. The weekdays aren't enough because everyone is busy," I explained.
I hoped she would understand for once, but it didn't seem to be happening.
"You don't go against your promises, and you said your weekends are mine. I would be expecting you, Vanni," Octavia insisted.
There was no time for me to refuse, and indeed, I had kept my promise to her all these years, spending my weekends with her unless something urgent came up.
"Gio, your attention is divided," Hank pointed out, and I was upset he hadn't proceeded with my order. I walked towards them and locked eyes with Nicole.
"Confess and be on my side, or remain silent and stay on my mother's side," I demanded.
My words were met with only tears from her, so unfortunately, I couldn't trust her. "Cut it," I ordered, and Hank swiftly carried out the command, blood spattering on the floor.
Nicole cried out in pain, her lifeless tongue lying on the floor. If she could try to trap Hank into revealing information, she could do the same to my bodyguards.
Let's see how she manages without her tongue. I picked up the intercom and was about to call HR when I remembered Agatha. Molly and I could still share her secretary.
"Since you will be needing medical attention, Agatha will hold the fort for you until you recover."
"I'll take her to the hospital," Hank offered, preparing to lift Nicole, but I stopped him. "Wait."
I took a picture and sent it to my mother with a text message: 'Send another spy, and their fate will be worse than this.'
Just then, my phone began ringing incessantly, even as Hank carried Nicole to the hospital.
She was fortunate that the tower had a hospital on the second floor.
Jace burst into my office and, upon seeing the mess, he paused. "I will get the cleaner, but your mom wants to talk to you."
"Tell her I'm not in the mood."
Recalling Hank's hint about Molly's connection to Don Black, I headed to her office as soon as the cleaner arrived.
Thanks to Hank's efforts, there were no stains on my shoes or clothes. Upon reaching Molly's office, I saw Jace fending off five unfamiliar men, one dragging Molly out of her office, and another pressing Agatha's face against the wall.
The look in Molly's eyes when we made eye contact weighed heavily on my heart, but one thing was clear: none of these thugs would leave here alive.
