Molly’s POV
We arrived at the office late due to picking up my late mother’s heart bracelet, but it put me in good spirits, making it feel as if she was close by.
“Good morning, ma’am, sir left instructions via email for me to take you through the company's branches,” Agatha said as soon as she entered the office. I was excited to learn how extensive the company was.
Agatha was a gem and patiently took me through everything I wanted to know, except for some departmental folders that were locked.
“Which ones are these?” I inquired, and she explained, “those are Don’s personal businesses that he doesn’t manage through the office.”
Something in me wanted to know more about it, but I decided to focus on what was in front of me first.
Agatha was so sweet, her patience heartwarming, but suddenly, numerous men barged into my office. I wondered where Jace was to have allowed this.
“What do you want?” I asked, but one of them spoke on the phone.
“Mom, we got her and didn’t have to deal with Don’s men.” He put the phone in his pocket after ending the call and walked up to me.
“You are coming with me.” He was dressed in black, similar to Gianni’s bodyguards, but I doubted they worked for Gianni; otherwise, they wouldn’t do this.
My heart stopped as they began to approach me, and I kept taking steps back with no means of defending myself.
“No, you can’t take her. Don would be very upset,” Agatha said, but a slap met her face before her hair was roughly pulled.
She was dragged out of the office as I picked up the vase closest to me. “Let her go, or I will hit you with this.”
My voice came out in a shriek, making me laugh at my bravery. But as the man was about to touch me, one of them advised, “Be careful and don’t harm her. Mom said to bring her in one piece.”
I had no idea who they were talking about, but I threw the vase, and the man swiftly dodged it, landing on the floor.
“Don’t be stubborn.” His hand was about to reach me when we heard commotions outside.
What are you doing here? Do you have any idea what Don would do to you?" Jace's voice echoed from outside, momentarily easing my fears as I doubted his ability to take down all these men and rescue me single-handedly.
"Mom sent us, so you better not stand in our way," another voice countered, but Jace quickly responded, "I take orders from Don."
The voices faded, replaced by the sounds of struggle and groans. "Jace is in our way, take her while I keep him busy," a voice outside said as a man grabbed my arm.
I felt a sense of hopelessness creeping in, especially when I saw Agatha's frightened face pressed against the wall. The thought of her suffering because of me weighed heavily on my heart.
Just as despair threatened to consume me, the elevator doors opened, revealing Gianni stepping out of his office. Hope ignited within me as our eyes met.
"What are you all doing here?" Gianni's voice dripped with authority and danger, causing tension to fill the atmosphere. Jace and Agatha visibly relaxed, but the men grew nervous.
"Don, Mom instructed us to bring her," one of the men explained. Gianni took a step closer, his demeanor intimidating.
"You come to my office and kidnap a woman under my protection because Mom instructed you? Who is really in charge here?" Gianni's words left the men bewildered, highlighting the power this mysterious "Mom" held.
"Don, we are loyal to her," one of the men insisted, prompting Gianni to remove his blazer and toss it to me.
As I caught the blazer, the man holding me released his grip, and three of the bodyguards lay on the floor. Fear gripped me as I realized the extent of Gianni's capabilities, with Jace having fought alongside him.
The sickening sounds of bones breaking and agonizing groans filled the room as Gianni delivered swift and brutal blows to the men. The arrival of office security only confirmed the chaos that had unfolded.
"None of them are leaving here alive," Gianni commanded as he dialed a number on his phone. "Mom, you are responsible for the deaths of your men."
I didn’t know the response he received, but he was visibly upset and ordered Jace, “Declare them missing.”
Jace appeared hesitant. “But they are employed by the Dawsons, and…” he started to explain when Gianni interrupted.
“Are you questioning me?”
Jace fell silent as Gianni instructed the office security to apprehend the men on the ground. It dawned on me that if these men were associated with the Dawsons, they must be a team.
“Are you okay?”
I was enveloped in warm arms before I could fully recover from the shock, but my focus shifted to Agatha. She locked eyes with Gianni, and I wondered about the unspoken communication between them as she swiftly exited.
Being held by Gianni brought back a flood of memories, and his kiss on my forehead sent a rush of warmth through me, causing me to pull away abruptly.
“Gianni, thank you. I’m fine, but can we talk?”
I led him into the cluttered office, and he called for a cleaner to tidy up the space. Within minutes, the office was gleaming once more.
“Now we can talk, as long as it doesn’t involve you wanting to leave.”
How did he know what was on my mind?
