Molly’s POV
His instruction caused a lump to form in my throat, but I felt the need to explain a few things to him.
“I don’t feel safe here.”
His gaze darkened at my words as he closed in on me. “What do you mean by that?”
The closeness made me uncomfortable, so I took a step back, finding comfort in my chair as I sank into it.
I expected Gianni to move to the sofa, but instead, he sat on my desk.
The intimate position made me nervous. “Anyone could walk in,” I reminded him, but he didn’t seem to care.
“So what?”
Confusion clouded my mind due to his sudden change of behavior. He always appeared professional before but today, I could not say the same.
Realizing his blazer was still with me, I gave it to him but his cologne scent was so alluring, still lingering even after he accepted the blazer from me.
“Don’t you think information might reach your wife that you cheated when you didn’t? Our closeness could send the wrong signals if someone walked in,” I warned him, but he refused to flinch.
“Who told you I was married?” He asked, confusion clouding my mind. Yet, I remembered Nicole mentioning it, and there were rumors too.
“There are rumors, and Nicole told me that Roger’s mother is Octavia.”
I saw something flicker in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. “It’s fortunate that Nicole won’t be able to speak for some time,” he said, confusing me further. Before I could ask, his hand reached for my arm.
It had reddened a little from the tight grip of the man he almost kidnapped me. “I’m sorry for this, but don’t always believe what people say. I’m not married, and I hope you can trust me again.”
He’s not married? Then what about Roger? I wanted to believe him, but after being deceived by him and Wesley, it was difficult.
However, he seemed forthcoming with information about himself today, so I took advantage and asked him.
“What about Roger? She’s his mother, and you keep her away from him.”
His hand rested on my shoulder, and I saw desire in his eyes as his face drew closer to mine.
“Molly, things are not as they seem, and one day, you will know everything," he said as he pulled away and walked to the fridge to pour himself a glass of water. "Water?" he offered, but I declined.
"You don't seem like you're leaving anytime soon," I remarked as he sipped the water and leaned against my desk, his expression serious.
"Molly, I have a few questions for you, and I hope you'll be honest with me."
As someone naturally serious, his tone made the conversation even more intense. "You know I won't lie to you," I assured him.
He smiled slightly, looking cute as he posed his question. "How many men have you impacted your life?"
Despite wanting to be truthful, I felt it was an invasion of my privacy. "You don't share much about yourself, yet you want to know everything about me. Gianni, things are different between us," I expressed.
I noticed a hint of pain in his eyes, causing me to wonder if I had said something wrong. However, he managed a forced smile. "I'm only concerned for your well-being."
Something didn't sit right with me. Gianni had promised to protect me, but the constant threats made his care unsettling.
"You promised to protect me, but I don't think it's right to be so close to you. I want to live somewhere peaceful," I asserted.
My voice unintentionally rose, but Gianni remained composed. "Do you think you'd be safer out there? Do you believe you can fend off Wesley, your sister, and his family on your own?" he challenged.
His question brought me back to reality. Without Gianni, Wesley would have caused chaos in my life.
"I'm sorry for forgetting, my savior,” I apologized rather sarcastically and catching his dark gaze, I asked.
“What should I do? I don't want you to always be the one saving me like a knight in shining armor. I need to learn to defend myself and stand up against the world, even if no one else stands with me," I confessed, a tear rolling down my cheek.
Gianni's gaze softened as he wiped away my tears. "Tomorrow, when you start working out, I'll come to help you train in self-defense as a start," he offered.
His words surprised me, and I couldn't believe he was serious. "You'd do that for me?" I questioned, still in disbelief. "Throughout the weekdays?"
Gianni nodded, confirming his commitment. “Including weekends," he responded.
I couldn't help but raise my brows, although it made me happy to have him around over the weekend. "You know what, it feels safe when you are around."
His smile was charming as he held both of my hands. "You deserve the best, Molly. I promise to help bring out the best in you."
His words brought tears to my eyes, and I embraced him tightly. "Gianni, you hurt me so much when you left that night without a trace, but I miss you so much."
It felt comforting to know he wasn't married, but when he pulled away, he presented me with a life-changing bargain. "If you answer my question, then I promise to tell you why I left that night."
Did he have a genuine reason for leaving that night? His life was complicated, but aside from wanting to have my complete revenge, I was desperate to know why he turned out so cold and fearful.
"Deal, but how can I be sure that nothing will interrupt us when it's your turn?"
