Molly’s POV
"Don? What do you mean? Is he some kind of mafia boss?" Those people were known for their ruthless dealings in illegal activities.
If Giovanni was involved with them, I needed to find a way to escape quickly, though I couldn't fathom how he could have ended up in such a situation.
Nora appeared helpless and fearful, which only fueled my curiosity as she evaded my questions.
"Let me find you a dress to change into. They're for emergencies," she said, avoiding my inquiries, much like Gianni.
Realizing she might not want to divulge information about Giovanni, I pressed on, considering the possibility of getting involved with the police and needing to defend myself.
"What about those men? I saw you enter the room with them. Have they been arrested?"
A frustrated smile played on her lips.
"Honestly, Molly, I have no idea. Don instructed me to follow him when he carried you out of there. I'm clueless about what his bodyguards did to those guys."
Her candid response shed light on Gianni's world, with bodyguards and a newfound wealth that Wesley never possessed. The mystery of the mother of his son lingered in my mind.
"Okay, I'll change now."
Nora drove us to the largest mall in Chicago. It had been a long time since I had visited a place like this, and I felt lost in its glamour.
As a former music star, I had accumulated so many clothes that I never needed to buy more when I married Wesley.
Two years had flown by, and I suddenly realized that I had been living comfortably in my old clothes, isolated from the outside world.
Four years ago, the outside world had been cruel to me, and there was nothing I missed about it.
"Don said you should buy all your daily necessities. He gave us a black card to use."
A black card? Gianni had never been this wealthy. He had always been well-off, but a black card was a level of wealth he had not reached at that time.
If Gianni had turned so evil, why would he have a conscience to help me after what he had done to me in the past?
No, it couldn't be. I only intended to buy a few daily necessities, and I didn't want to owe him too much.
"I have a little money in my account. No need to buy expensive stuff," I told Nora, but she didn't seem to listen.
"Don will be upset. Let's check out some clothes in this store," she said, dragging me into a store selling luxury brands. "
Things here are expensive," I complained, but Nora was too caught up in my questions to pay attention.
Please don't worry about anything. Don is wealthy enough, and you should consider yourself fortunate to spend directly from his card," she assured me.
Her words triggered thoughts of my planned revenge. Gio had also hurt me, so using his money didn't seem like a big deal, right?
With that in mind, I reluctantly agreed, "Fine, let's go."
However, my regret set in as soon as we stepped into the shop. Rumors seemed to have a way of lingering, didn't they?
"What are you looking for here?" the shop attendant inquired as I browsed through some clothes that caught my eye.
Her hostile tone irked me. "Do people come here to drink?" I retorted sarcastically, causing Molly to burst into laughter.
I tried to ignore the attendant, but she wasn't about to let me off the hook.
"Have you not noticed how expensive everything is here? You probably can't afford any of it," the attendant remarked, provoking me to stop and glare at her.
However, Nora intervened, typing something on her phone before joining me.
"Excuse me, what makes you think she can't afford it?" Nora challenged the attendant, who scoffed in response.
"It's true what they say, birds of a feather flock together. You both probably can't afford anything here, so leave and make way for those who can," the attendant sneered.
Rage boiled inside me, especially when the attendant left to assist a walk-in customer dressed in Versace.
She was friendly towards them, which made me shake my head. "Can we try another store?" I asked Nora. "Maybe a more affordable one."
But she wasn't receptive to my suggestion. "Don specifically instructed us to shop here. If you prefer, I can ask him to close the shop for you," she said casually, causing my eyes to widen.
I spotted some shoes and began mentally pairing them with a few pants. "I'll try these on," I told Nora, but before I could move, the attendant snatched the clothes from me.
The customers in Versace had left without purchasing anything. I glanced at her name tag, which read Melody.
"Don't soil these clothes. They're too expensive for someone like you," she said in a harsh, loud tone, drawing the attention of other shoppers.
Tears welled up in my eyes from the humiliation, but another attendant entered the scene. Upon seeing me, she exclaimed, "Beauty without brains. You're still alive?"
It was as if she confirmed the suspicions on their minds at the sight of me. My legs felt weak as the shoppers' gazes turned hostile. I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole.
Melody grinned wickedly. Her bread seemed to have been buttered by the revelation.
"You mean she’s the fallen singer and home-wrecker, Molly Campbell?" She sneered, her eyes filled with a double layer of disdain, worse than before.
Rushing towards me, I knew she was going to hit me, but Nora intervened just in time, taking the blow meant for me, which upset me.
"How could you hit her?" I found my courage in seeing Nora get hit while trying to protect me.
"It was meant for a homewrecker like you," Melody yelled, the disdain in her eyes becoming darker, as other shoppers started recording.
My face burned from shame, filling my lungs and causing my breath to hitch.
"This is what happens to people like you. You deserve to be ashamed and not show your face in public."
I was on the verge of losing consciousness if she had hit me, as security restrained Nora at the store. But just as Melody’s hand was about to make contact with my face, a strong arm blocked it.
His voice was icy, chilling the atmosphere in the store. "How dare you?"
