"how are there so many recipes in the world? i've really been missing out..."
y/n lay sprawled across her dorm bed, scrolling through Pinterest as her screen filled with tempting recipes. "pizza croissants might be fun... or maybe a crepe cake," she murmured, tilting her head as she pictured Bakugo's skeptical glare softeningโ€”just a littleโ€”at the idea of cooking something fun together. the thought made her smile; even if he grumbled the whole time, he'd still show up, sleeves rolled up, pretending not to enjoy it.
after adding well over fifty recipes to her recipe board she finally glanced at the clockโ€”8:26 PM. the building was unusually quiet, the aftereffect of the pool party still lingering in the air. most people were either too stuffed to bother with dinner or had scavenged something in the cupboards hours ago. letting out a small sigh, she stretched her arms above her head, her back popping with a satisfying crack. phone in hand, she padded out of her room and made her way down to the common room
usually, a few people would be scattered around the common room; whether it was studying in pairs, half-heartedly doing homework, or just chatting about whatever came to mind. but as y/n stepped inside, the space was completely empty. "Huh... guess everyone really crashed after today," she mumbled to herself, glancing around to make sure no one was there, still slightly traumatized from when her cousins made her watch The Conjuring with them at the ripe age of 7.
"what the hell are you doing here?"
despite y/n immediately recognizing the voice, she jumped and let out a small scream at it and turned around to see Bakugo coming down the stairs (he doesn't like using the elevator). "it's late as hell, you should be asleep." he said with a slight smirk from her reaction.
y/n glanced over at the clock and back at the ash blond, "it's not even nine?" she questioned.
he huffed and shoved his hands in his pockets, "exactly, the only reason why i'm up is because i got hungry all of a sudden, i was going to go to the gas station and since you're up you might as well come too." he grumbled and headed towards the back door.
y/n didn't protest and caught up to him before he went out the door. "we're taking the back way in case Aizawa finds us, it's just a shortcut through the woods."
y/n raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised that he would do something against authority, "never took you as the type to sneak out at night, did your mom ever catch you?"
he scoffed and shoved his hands into ho pockets, "this isn't a regular thing, and for the record i never snuck out back at my parents house."
"that's not the flex you think it is."
Bakugo rolled his eyes, deciding to stay silent and not press on any further.
as the two of them stepped into the woods, their footsteps were muffled by the soft crunch of leaves underfoot. the only light came from the moon, its silver glow filtering through the canopy above, casting shifting patterns on the forest floor like a patchwork of shadows. the air was cool and still, thick with the scent of pine.
y/n stole a quick glance at Bakugo before lowering her eyes back to the path, her shoes crunching softly through the blanket of leaves. "thank you, Bakugo... for helping me try new things. and for teaching me how to cook," she said, her voice quiet but sincere. "it really means a lot."
his crimson eyes looked over at her before letting out a 'tch'. "yeah whatever you're welcome, having a healthy diet is important for physical and mental health. you gotta have a balance in the stuff you eat, it's good to eat healthy but it's ok to indulge in what you want every once in awhile."
he paused letting the crickets and the sound of crunching leaves fill the silence before he continued, "is there a reason why you're a picky eater? i know you can't control what you do and don't like but i mean sometimes there's a reason behind it or whatever..."
the girl thought for a minute before looking over at him, "nope. i'm just picky when it comes to food."
Bakugo rolled his eyes at her, smirking slightly. "yeah that sounds about right."
the girl spoke up again as she went out of her way to step on the crunchy leaves, "i mean no one wants to be a picky eater, my parents never really had that big of a problem with me being picky, but i always felt really bad when i went over to a friend's house and their parents made us food that i didn't like, i would usually force myself to eat the food since i didn't want to seem rude."
Bakugo paused at her sudden confession and thought about what she had said for a minute, "i never really thought about that... usually when someone is a picky eater i just thought they were being dramatic."
y/n smiled and kicked some acorns that came in contact with her feet, "people assume a lot of things, sometimes you have to experience what they're feeling first hand to really understand." she paused before continuing, "not that being picky is the worst thing ever, it's really not that bad, but I guess its just important to try and see things from other's perspectives, you know?"
the blonde thought about this for a minute, she was right, you can't assume people are being dramatic about something because you don't know what they're going through, it's like if someone was bitten by a dog when they were younger and are now scared to get close to any other dog, some people might think they're being dramatic when in reality, they're just scared.
"oh we're here Bakugo!"
he quickly snapped out of his thoughts as they approached the gas station, it was quite peaceful in the parking lot. the street lights provided a nice light as well as the moon and the faint smell of gasoline and cigarettes filled the air.
the two walked in and y/n made a beeline to the drinks. Bakugo grabbed a lollipop along with an orange flavored fizzy drink. after he had grabbed everything he went over to y/n who had some chocolate milk in her hand and a pack of green apple flavored gummies. she looked over at him with her e/c eyes before smiling and holding up the gummies, "if it's green it's healthy."
Bakugo rolled his eyes, "that's a hell of a combo, gummies and milk?" the girl shrugged and went over to the cash register. he followed and set his things on the counter, "put your stuff on the counter dumbass i'm paying." he pulled his wallet out as the cashier who looked just about ready to roll on over to his grave scanned the items.
y/n set her stuff on the counter and looked over as Bakugo pulled out some money from his wallet, "thank you Bakugo, you sure you don't want me to pay half?"
"one time i had gummies with a hotdog." the cashier spoke up.
the two teenagers looked over at him, slightly confused. "i got food poisoning later."
Bakugo nodded awkwardly, "right..."
before y/n could hand him some money he already gave the amount needed to the cashier, "don't worry about it, i don't want your damn money." he gently pushed her hand away and grabbed the bag of snacks before walking back out.
y/n followed as he held the door open for her followed by a small "thank you" before they started to head back.
y/n grabbed her gummies out of the bag and handed Bakugo's lollipop to him too, "here, what flavor did you get?"
he took the wrapper off and plopped the candy in his mouth, "butterscotch."
y/n made a disgusted face before taking one of her gummies and putting it in her mouth, "out of all the flavors you got butterscotch? actually on second thought that suits you." she said, popping a gummy into her mouth.
he scoffed and moved the lollipop to the other side of his mouth, "i don't want one with artificial dyes, and besides the other flavors like strawberry or blue raspberry are too sweet for me."
the girl chuckled and popped another gummy in her mouth, "you're missing out, artificial sweets are the best."
Bakugo rolled his eyes at her comment as they made it back to the dorm building and went in through the back, "you can say that but i'll be the one laughing when all that red 40 catches up to at age 30."
y/n laughed at his comment, like a genuine laugh, Bakugo felt himself get slightly hotter but ignored it and handed her her chocolate milk, "whatever dumbass, just take your damn milk and go to bed."
"both of you should be in bed."
y/n and Bakugo tensed as they turned their heads around to see Aizawa standing behind them.
