Joycelyn’s POV
The rest of the TEDx speakers had already headed to the restaurant, but Alex was waiting for me by the exit, leaning against a marble column beneath Harvard's crimson banners.
When I emerged, he nodded toward Nathan's retreating figure crossing Harvard Yard.
"Ex-boyfriend?" he asked casually.
I nodded with a slight smile. "Yep."
"Objectively gorgeous," Alex acknowledged. "The kind of face that makes freshman orientation groups spontaneously combust."
"Though guys who look like that are basically unicorns. Must be hard to find a replacement."
I raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to get to the point.
He straightened his posture, the teasing tone shifting to something more genuine.
"So, Joycelyn, now that you're dominating the ivy leagues instead of high school, has your dating algorithm changed at all?"
He gestured toward himself with mock formality. "Case in point: one slightly nerdy but promising candidate. Clean academic record, impressive research lineage, publications in Science and Nature, thriving industry connections, and just enough ambition to keep things interesting. Any chance I could make your shortlist?"
I smiled enigmatically, neither confirming nor denying.
The path ahead was long. Why rush into choices?
If I could climb this far from nothing, the view would only get better from even higher peaks.
My name is Joycelyn Quinn.
Not Joy, the happiness others tried to define for me. Not Celyn, the ceiling that once tried to limit me.
But something celestial and brilliant that I had claimed for myself.
I would rise.
I would soar.
The sky itself wasn't even the limit.
