Carol stood still in astonishment.
She was already surrounded by Laura's people, and there was no way for her to avoid them at all.
Carol was completely confused. 'Why are these people here?
'Shouldn't only people related to Favian come to watch?
'Are these people here just to watch Laura's performance?
'Do they have no other work to do?
'Are they really that idle?'
But despite her disbelief, the truth was laid bare before her.
Carol's breath gradually became rapid, though her face remained composed, but the faint trembling of her long eyelashes betrayed her inner turmoil.
Antonio saw through it with a single glance and said in a cold tone, "Mrs. Yale, you shouldn't be thinking why we are here, should you?"
Laura peeked out from the trunk to watch the scene.
Carol took a deep breath and raised her head calmly. "Yes, I didn't expect you to be so idle that you could take time out of your busy schedule to watch Laura's performance. Apparently, you have had a lot of rest days recently."
Antonio's eyes darkened, a hint of mockery crossing his features. "I don't have any rest days, Mrs. Yale. I deliberately canceled my meetings to come and watch her perform."
Carol was shocked. "What?"
Joshua smiled, revealing a pair of small fangs, as he said ominously, "I don't have any rest days either, and I specifically put off a deal to come and watch my niece play the leading role."
Louis looked at Carol with resistance. "Yeah, me too."
Favian pushed his glasses and said incredulously, "Mrs. Yale, do you think that since I'm the only one left here, I won't be able to do anything to you?"
The cold light reflected off his golden glasses frame, his tone elegant yet disdainful. "You really underestimate me."
Tyler, hands in his pockets, lazily chimed in, "Enough with the chatter, Carol, get lost. These youngsters are too polite to say it, but we're peers. I won't be lenient with you."
Carol looked at Tyler in disbelief. "Is this how you talk to me? Don't forget, you were just a pauper back then."
Tyler paused, mocking, "Even a pauper is on equal footing with you now. That must drive you crazy."
Carol trembled with anger. "But I'm Joshua's biological mother."
Tyler retorted, "And I'm Joshua's godfather. Besides driving your son insane, what else have you done? Yet you still have the nerve to show your face?"
Dexter opened the trunk and dragged the two children out, looking coldly at Carol. "If it weren't for you being my friend's mother, I wouldn't have let you off so easily for hurting my son. Why don't you leave now?"
Carol remained composed, with a touch of mockery. "I never intended to hurt your son; he came on his own."
Dexter said coldly, "Harming Laura is harming my son."
Carol was immediately rendered speechless by the retort, and then she looked at her bodyguards, each of whom was being captured.
Joshua even had a gun.
Apparently, it must be a real gun.
Carol complained in her heart, 'Damn it!
'I used to be clever, Why did I act foolish just now?
'Clearly, Helen had already asked me if I needed to inspect the venue, but I chose to relax and let my guard down, thinking that Laura wouldn't be so popular.
'This is really embarrassing.'
Carol took a deep breath, straightened her chest, and casually said, "Alright, I mean no harm. I just wanted to take Laura back to my lab for a thorough study. Since you're here to pick up the child, I'll leave now, there's no need to make a big deal out of this, right?"
She turned to board the car.
Winnie spoke up, "Mom."
Carol stopped and looked back.
Winnie looked disappointed and spoke in a deep voice, "Mom, don't do it again. If it happens again, we won't let you leave so easily."
Carol's eyes flickered with surprise. "Winnie, are you speaking to me?"
Winnie's gentle features suddenly turned stern. "Yes."
Carol furrowed her brows in disbelief.
Winnie's gaze was firm and resolute. "As a mother, I cannot allow any harm to come to my children. If you lay a hand on her again, I'll make everyone present here my witnesses and charge you with kidnapping."
Carol widened her eyes in disbelief, looking at Winnie as if she were a stranger.
Winnie, however, felt relieved, raising her chin. "You may leave now."
Carol frowned but didn't say anything, turning to board the car and leave.
Tyler gave his subordinate a look. "Keep an eye on her. Don't let her cause any more trouble."
His subordinates all obediently followed, then they leaved with Carol.
The atmosphere gradually eased at the scene.
Everyone looked concernedly at Laura.
Winnie carefully examined Laura's body, feeling guilty. "Are you okay?"
With a mother like Carol, Winnie really felt terrible.
Not only did Carol harm her, but she also harmed her daughter.
Laura shook her head and looked to her side. "Zayn, are you okay?"
Zayn said with a serious face, "If you're okay, then I'm fine."
When Dexter heard that his son was okay, the killing intent that had been looming over him vanished instantly, and he returned to his usual frivolous demeanor. "Do you know how scared I was? I wondered why my child has been kidnapped again and again."
He looked at Antonio with distress. "Your daughter should have a bodyguard. How can she keep getting kidnapped?"
Antonio remained calm, looking at Laura with deep eyes.
He was already considering it.
Joshua squatted in front of Laura, checking her body and asking, "Are you okay? Did they drug you? Did they inject you with anything? Are you feeling dizzy or uncomfortable?"
Laura shook her head confidently and patted her chest. "I pretended to faint just now. That's why they didn't do anything to me. Aren't I smart?"
Joshua asked, "Pretended to faint?"
The adults were stunned.
Zayn couldn't help but smirk. "You're quite resourceful."
Laura beamed with pride, nodding. "Of course. I'm already an expert at being kidnapped."
Winnie couldn't help but smile at this and pinched her cheek affectionately. "I'm grateful that you're so smart. Otherwise, I would really blame myself. So how are you feeling now? Is your gastroenteritis better?"
Laura nodded. "I'm perfectly healthy now. I can even finish a bowl of cereal in one sitting."
Everyone was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but chuckle. 'Finishing a bowl of cereal was considered a lot?
'But it was good to see her in good spirits.'
Blade stood with crossed arms and sighed, "You're really smart. Most kids would have been scared silly by now, but you remain calm. You're wasting your talent as an actor. Why not join me in the future instead?"
Joshua instantly became alert. "No poaching. I'm counting on her to take over my position."
Blade glared at him coldly. "Get lost, Joshua. Do you even know your own worth? Daring to compete with me?"
Joshua approached her with a gloomy face. "I'm your senior, and I beat you many times during team-building activities."
Blade gave him a fierce look. "So, you want to fight?"
Laura intervened in confusion, raising her hand to stop them. "Wait, wait, why are you arguing? I can learn from both of you."
Blade and Joshua looked at her incredulously. 'Learn from both of us?'
