Several women swarmed in and grabbed them, just like catching chicks.
Elaine momentarily forgot her pain and grabbed them. "Don't touch my sister."
But the women slapped Elaine.
Rachel's face paled, horrified. "What are you doing? My sister is sick. You can't hit her."
The woman slapped Rachel too. "I can't hit her? I even want her dead!"
Rachel was suddenly knocked to the ground.
Jeremy exploded in anger, rushing at the woman like a hungry wolf. But she grabbed his neck firmly, saying with certainty, "I gave birth to you, yet you want to hit me? Fighting outside and stealing money. I'm going to teach you a lesson."
Jeremy was stunned.
These people were trying to confuse the public, making bystanders think it was a family matter.
Jeremy looked at the bystanders. "This isn't true, they're here to kidnap us. Please help us."
The onlookers were confused and started discussing, but no one stepped forward to help.
Suddenly, a cold female voice rang out. "A bunch of poor relatives have gone mad, snatching children's medical expenses?"
Jeremy was startled, looking towards the source of the voice.
Phoenix strutted in wearing high heels, with her female bodyguard in a black suit standing behind her. She looked scornfully at them and said, "Hurry up and get lost."
Carol's bodyguard's expression changed. "Who are you?"
Phoenix smirked, walking forward and speaking in a voice only audible to the two of them, "We are specially sent by Ms. Yale to protect the Hoover family. They have switched sides and are now on Ms. Yale's side."
Phoenix casually patted the woman's shoulder. "If you don't leave now, I'll take action, regardless of who your master is."
The woman's face changed slightly. She looked resentful and glanced back at Jeremy before quickly leaving.
Jeremy was still somewhat dazed as he faced Phoenix's friendly gaze. "Don't be afraid, kids. We were sent by Ms. Yale to specially protect you. From today onwards, you are under our care, and we will do our best to protect you. You should be grateful to Ms. Yale for this."
Jeremy widened his eyes in astonishment. "Laura... How did she know this?"
Phoenix shrugged. "I don't know. All I know is that Laura is very clever and has great foresight."
She tapped the tip of Jeremy's nose. "You have chosen the right team. Don't make mistakes again."
Jeremy's heart was pounding. He turned to look at his family.
Rachel held the weak Elaine in her arms and said gratefully, "I'll call Ms. Yale later to thank her."
Phoenix remained noncommittal.
She thought, 'This kid seems pretty decent.
'She already knew to address Laura Miss.'
An hour later, Laura answered the phone call from Rachel.
Rachel sounded cheerful, clearly happy. "Elaine has been out of danger. The doctor said we arrived just in time. If we had been any later, it could have been life-threatening. Thank you so much, Laura."
Laura breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the news. "That's good then. As long as she's okay."
Rachel still felt a bit awkward, nodding. "I don't know how to thank you yet. Mrs. Carol Yale's people came to stop us from saving Elaine. If it weren't for you, Elaine might have died... But how did you know they would come to get me?"
Laura shook her head and said, "I guessed."
She said in a childish voice, "Helping people to the end. Cutting off the tail of the snake. I felt they wouldn't let you off."
Rachel remained silent. 'Perhaps, it should be cutting off the head of the snake?'
But she didn't argue, just smiled sheepishly. "Thank you."
Laura felt she had nothing more to say. "If nothing else, I'll hang up now."
Rachel was stunned and said hurriedly, "Wait."
Laura paused, tilting her head in curiosity.
Rachel glanced at her siblings behind her, then shyly continued, "Actually, we really don't know how to thank you. But I'll do everything I can to help you in the future. I'm good at studying and very hardworking. Everyone in my family excels in academics, so I believe we'll definitely be able to help you in the future. I won't let you help me for nothing this time."
Laura didn't say anything, just hung up the phone and sat quietly in the lounge, chuckling to herself. 'Haha.
'The feeling of having my enemy help me in the future... is kind of satisfying.'
Everett lounged lazily across from her. "Laura, don't just smile foolishly. Be careful, they might stab you in the back."
Zayn, Jasper, and Xander also glanced at her.
Laura furrowed her brow, "No way, I'll support them in the future. I'm their next Mrs. Carol Yale. They won't betray me."
At least she felt that, despite the lack of moral boundaries in the Hoover family, they were loyal.
Xander stroked his chin in analysis, "For Laura, this is an investment. If they can deliver, then we will succeed in our investment. But if they don't, it's a failed investment, and that's okay."
Zayn nodded in agreement, asking, "Laura, do you think you'll win or lose?"
Laura blinked, unable to answer.
This was beyond what she could consider.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
Rachel sent her a message: [Below is a list of the names in Mrs. Carol Yale's laboratory. We are the top students in the lab, but there are many other talented individuals besides us, students who may not excel academically but have other strengths to compensate for. Eva is also one of them. Her characteristic is that she's very cunning and adept at playing mind games with peers.
[I don't have their photos, but I've described their names, appearances, characteristics, personalities, and behaviors for you to see.]
Laura was delighted, lifting her phone. "She gave me feedback."
Everyone immediately crowded around her phone to read the message.
Rachel: [Laura, I don't have anything to offer you right now. Or perhaps, what I give you cannot make up for the harm I've caused you. But please believe me, we will fulfill our promise. It's not just me, other members of the Hoover family will also help you. This is the best intelligence I currently possess, and in the future, I will keep you informed of anything else.]
The names were followed by features and some of their personality traits.
Jasper tutted lightly, "Rachel deserves to be the class representative for language. She's quite capable. Look at how vividly she described those people. It feels like they're right in front of us."
Xander nodded. "Yes, apart from being quite annoying, there's nothing to criticize about her academic abilities. If she can remain loyal to Laura like this in the future, I think Laura has hit the jackpot."
With that, the four boys all turned to look at Laura.
Zayn raised his eyebrows at her with a faint smile. "Congratulations, Laura, your investment paid off."
Laura pursed her lips shyly, looking at the messages from Rachel.
Jasper nodded in agreement. "At this age, with such experiences, it's difficult not to switch sides to our camp. But what Leroy has done requires a lot of compensation to be forgiven."
Laura agreed.
Helping them didn't mean forgiveness.
She needed compensation.
A lot of compensation.
