As the incident escalated, Laura and Evan's talent agencies remained unresponsive. Public opinion continued to intensify, and their popularity soared, much to Brandon's delight.
Although Brandon didn't get the video by accident, the netizens' enthusiasm was real.
He didn't even have to worry about the ratings for the next few days.
In the blink of an eye, it was night.
The three winning participants could live in the hotel, and the rest could only stay in the dormitory.
Laura came to Bert's dormitory which was clean and simple.
There was just a single bed, a cabinet, a desk, and other necessities, and everything was clean and comfortable. There was also the unique fragrance on Bert's clothes in the air.
Laura was curious and asked, "Mr. Yale, do you work very hard and need to beat bad guys every day?"
Bert was packing things with his back to Laura. He said calmly, "It's all right. I don't feel tired."
Laura nodded and said, "Speaking of which, we have the same surname. What a coincidence!"
Bert looked back at Laura's carefree face. He didn't feel it was a coincidence.
Suddenly, Bert's phone rang.
It was a message from his father: [I have something to discuss with you. Go back home now.]
Should Bert go home now?
Bert looked at Laura, who didn't know what was going on, and frowned.
How about Laura if Bert went home?
Could he leave her to someone else?
Evan's unkind face suddenly emerged in Bert's mind, which worried Bert.
No.
Laura didn't get along with Evan. Leaving her here alone was dangerous.
Bert thought he could take Laura home.
It would only take a couple of hours anyway.
So Burt turned around and looked at Laura, saying, "I have to go home now because I got something to handle. Go with me. We'll be back later."
Laura replied readily, "Okay."
Hearing this, Bert couldn't help joking, "You're gonna be taken away by me. Aren't you afraid?"
Laura blinked and pointed at Bert's uniform. "I'm not afraid of anything because you're dressed in this suit," she said.
Bert looked surprised as he gazed at the impeccably pressed military uniform adorning him and smiled.
But he still reminded Laura, "It's very dangerous to leave with a stranger. Even if that person wears this suit, you can't believe him easily. Understand?"
Laura nodded and answered, "Of course!"
She had been kidnapped several times in a month, so she had become more cautious.
Seeing that Laura was so energetic, Bert showed a tender expression. Then he drove her back to his home.
Laura was taken to a villa by Bert and couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
It was the first time she had ever seen such a magnificent villa.
She was shocked and looked at Bert, asking, "Mr. Yale, were you a prince before? This villa is like the place where the royals live!"
Bert was amused and didn't know how to reply.
Just then, the servant Emma Jones walked forward and said, "Mr. Yale."
Bert nodded and entrusted Laura to Emma, saying, "I'll talk to my dad. Please take care of her for me now, and then I will take her back to the army."
Emma was surprised to see Laura. Then she nodded and replied, "Okay, Mr. Yale. Don't worry."
Bert nodded and told Laura, "Laura, it may take me a few hours. Don't worry. I will come back to you as soon as I finish my work."
Laura nodded and said, "I see. I won't bother you. Don't worry!"
Bert was slightly stunned when he heard her sensible words. Then he nodded gently and turned to leave.
Emma held Laura's hand happily and said, "Oh, I've seen you on TV before. I didn't expect that you look even more beautiful than on TV."
Laura was very pleased and said sweetly, "Thank you for your compliment. You are also gorgeous!"
Emma was amused by Laura and smiled with delight, saying, "You're so sweet. I believe your upbringing is excellent. By the way, Ms. Ashlyn Yale is about your age. You should be four years old. Ms. Ashlyn Yale is five years old. She happens to be still up. Do you want to play with her?"
Laura was very interested and answered, "Okay!"
Emma immediately took Laura to the second-floor attic in the backyard. The exterior of the villa looked antique, but the interior decoration was low-key and exquisite. Obviously, the owner had excellent taste.
It was totally different from Antonio's villa.
Laura looked at the house up and down. Suddenly, a pleasant voice sounded from a high place, "Emma, is the girl you are holding Laura Yale?"
Laura looked up and saw a little girl slightly taller than her standing on the stairs.
The girl, with short hair, wore a light blue doll nightgown. She gazed at Laura with an impassive expression.
Laura immediately showed a friendly expression and greeted, "Hello!"
The girl raised her chin slightly and said with a smile, "Hello."
The girl had a distinctly cute appearance, with long and narrow eyes and a charming mole under the corner of her eye, hinting at the alluring appeal she would exude as she matured.
Emma pushed Laura forward and said with a smile, "Yes, Ms. Ashlyn Yale. She is Laura who's very popular on TV!"
Then Emma said to Laura, "Ms. Laura Yale, this is Ms. Ashlyn Yale I just told you about."
Laura looked at Ashlyn curiously and asked, "Are you Uncle Bert's daughter?"
Ashlyn held the railing gracefully and calmly. Obviously, she was well-educated. She spoke in a clear voice and said slowly, "He's my uncle. I am his brother's daughter. My dad died in a plane crash."
Hearing this, Laura stopped smiling. She pursed her lips with guilt and apologized, "I'm sorry. I don't know."
Ashlyn approached Laura, locking eyes with her like a beast fixating on its prey. "I don't mind. They said it was a good thing that Dad had gone to heaven."
Laura didn't know what to say and somehow felt scared by Ashlyn's stare.
However, Ashlyn took the initiative to hold Laura's hand, and Laura's face was reflected in Ashlyn's bright eyes. "I heard that your mother is dead, and so is your dad, isn't he?" asked Ashlyn.
Laura hesitated and replied, "My dad is missing."
Ashlyn was very happy. "Then we are friends! Come on, I'll take you upstairs to play with my toys. If you have a good time, you can stay here and play with me!"
Then Ashlyn held Laura's hand and went upstairs.
Laura followed behind.
She felt that Ashlyn's gaze made her uncomfortable.
She wondered if it was all her delusion.
Then Laura looked back at Emma.
Standing downstairs, Emma reminded gently, "Ms. Ashlyn Yale, you have to be careful. Ms. Laura Yale is Mr. Yale's guest. She must be safe and sound!"
Ashlyn replied, "Don't worry. I know what to do!"
Laura followed Ashlyn into the room. The moment the door was opened, Laura smelled the strong fragrance of strawberries in the air.
The entire room was adorned in cool colors, offering a striking contrast to the delightful aroma of sweet strawberries.
The room exuded a sense of cleanliness and simplicity with its dark gray floor tiles and light gray walls.
There were not even any toys in the room for them to play with.
It was unbelievably simple.
Ashlyn sat on the sofa and motioned for Laura to close the door.
Then Laura hurriedly closed the door.
Ashlyn ordered, "Lock it from the inside."
Laura was confused but did as she said. Standing at the door, Laura didn't know where to go, so she said, "Your room smells so good."
Ashlyn didn't answer but asked straightforwardly, "I heard that you are very smart and have good grades, right? Although you are only one year younger than me, you have already attended the advanced class of Skyline Academy, so you're at the same level as the first-grade students of Skyline Academy, right?"
Laura felt a little awkward and twisted her fingers in front of her, answering, "You can say that."
Ashlyn smiled and said, "Then your grades must be very good. You should be the top student!"
Laura answered honestly, "There are many students in our class who tie for the first place. I am one of them."
Ashlyn nodded and said, "Well, it's alright. My relatives have been drawing parallels between us, mentioning that we share the Yale surname and are of similar age, yet you're more widely known than I am. There's talk that we might be long-lost sisters, with me being the stupid one and you the smart one. I had assumed you to be quite capable, but it appears you're just average."
Laura was more confused now.
What did Ashlyn mean?
Laura was a little embarrassed and said, "You don't have to care about their words. My mother told me not to care too much about others' opinions. Your own happiness is the most important. I believe my mom is right!"
Ashlyn was overjoyed and asked, "So you don't care how others treat you at all, right?"
Laura felt baffled and nodded, saying, "Yeah."
Hearing this, Ashlyn stood up, strolled to the desk, and calmly expressed, "But I'm different. What I hate the most is being compared to others, especially those who are better-looking and share similar backgrounds. Such people are the ones I dislike intensely."
Then Ashlyn picked up the bracelet on the table, looked at Laura, and grinned. "Hey!" she shouted at Laura.
Laura was perplexed for a moment, but suddenly she got alarmed. She understood what Ashlyn wanted to do and rushed towards her.
Ashlyn suddenly threw the bracelet on the ground.
At the critical moment, Laura rolled over and caught the bracelet with her back.
The bracelet fell on her back.
What a near miss!
Laura was covered with cold sweat. She looked up at Ashlyn in panic and asked, "Do you want to frame me?"
