                    Laura looked at him confusedly.
Who was this guy?
Ambrose held her face and observed it carefully.
As if like a child who found the treasure, he murmured, "It can't be wrong! I am certain you are really my brother's descendant! I didn't recognize you when you were on TV, although you looked familiar. Now I can tell that you and your mother look exactly the same! I saw your mom's performance a few years ago when she was the cheerleader. She was the most vivacious among my brother's kids! I'm very impressed with her. How's your mom doing?"
Laura was still confused. "So you are..."
Ambrose laughed. "My brother is your mother's father."
She asked, "Does my mother have a father?"
Suddenly, the room fell silent.
Ambrose's smile froze, and then he said with a smile, "Of course. We are family. Look at him. This is my brother Albert. He is your biological grandfather who gave birth to your mother and your uncles! Do you want to say hi to him?"
Laura looked at Albert in confusion, who was gazing at her at the same time with a complicated expression. He seemed to have a lot to say, but he remained silent.
Bert said with a sullen face, "Dad, don't go off-topic. We are now discussing why Laura was beaten and what happened between them. Don't talk about something else yet."
Ambrose patted his forehead and said, "Oh, right. I'm so happy that I forgot about it."
When he turned to look at Ashlyn, his expression instantly became serious. "What's going on, Ashlyn? Did you bully Laura?"
Ashlyn was already in disbelief at her grandfather's actions. "I didn't bully anyone. Laura bullied me first!"
"You're still lying!" Ambrose angrily rebuked. "Do you really think we know nothing about you? You also said that the last time you bullied someone! Why can't you behave yourself?"
Ashlyn trembled, tears in her eyes. "I did nothing this time! You have to believe me!"
Bert asked, "How can you prove it?"
Ashlyn turned to him, who seemed to be looking at her like a stranger.
Bert said, "Laura has the recording and solid proof, Ashlyn. We know you've made such a mistake before. Tell us why we should believe you."
With panic flashing in her tearful eyes, Ashlyn covered her chest and said, "I really didn't do it. You have to believe me, Uncle Bert. No, I'm not a nasty kid."
Bert remained silent with a cold face.
Ashlyn turned to look at Albert for help. "Grandpa Albert, please help me. Say something to my grandfather and uncle. They don't believe me now. I can only rely on you now. Please trust me!"
She grabbed Albert's sleeve sadly and said, "Grandpa Albert..."
Laura couldn't help but think of her first encounter with Albert on the ship as she glanced at him as well.
Albert had a good look, and his eyes and eyebrows portrayed his once-vibrant youth. His towering frame squatted before Laura, shielding her like a fortress. He ignored Ashlyn's plea and said, "Ashlyn, do you know who this child is?"
Ashlyn shook her head.
Albert's expression darkened. "She is my granddaughter, just like you are Ambrose's granddaughter."
Laura seemed to understand it now.
Ashlyn shook her head in disbelief. "What do you mean? Don't you like me anymore?"
Expressionless, with only the bulging veins on his forehead reflecting his emotion, Albert said, "Ask yourself if you deserve other's affection. You cut the other kid's hair and threw innocent kittens into the washing machine. Now you even bullied the kid who just visited us. Tell me, what makes you likable?"
He raised his voice as he spoke.
Dejected, Ashlyn was sitting in place, shivering helplessly.
Emma hesitated when she tried to enter the door multiple times, saying, "Well, Mr. Albert Yale, I think Ashlyn didn't mean to..."
Albert glanced at him and said, "You're telling me it was unintentional when she hit someone with a stick? You knew about this, right?"
Emma lowered her head, feeling guilty.
The harshness in Albert's tone increased. "You don't need to come to work starting from tomorrow. We will give you the paycheck today."
Emma immediately panicked and looked at Ashlyn distressedly. She pleaded with him, "Please don't fire me, Mr. Yale! I might have overly spoiled Ms. Yale! She is just a kid and doesn't understand anything!"
Bert sneered, "A kid?"
Emma nodded. "Isn't she just a kid? She is only five years old!"
"A five-year-old child is capable of killing." Bert's eyes were fierce. "What will she turn out to be when she grows up?"
Emma was bummed and murmured, "When she grows up... she will become sensible. Isn't she still young now?"
Ashlyn nodded. 'That's right.
'I am just a kid!
'I shouldn't be blamed for what I did.'
But Albert didn't even look at her. He gently stroked the big bump on Laura's head and said in a low voice, "We won't see each other again from now on because she will be sent abroad to be with her mother."
Emma was shocked to hear that.
Ashlyn became flustered and asked urgently, "Grandpa Albert, are you going to send me abroad because of Laura?"
Albert looked at her aloofly, his expression solemn and frigid. "Or what? We have attempted to reason with you! You even used a stick to strike a different child in the head this time, and then you concealed her in your closet! Do you know what you were doing? Are you going to become a murderer when you grow up?"
Albert got angrier the more he spoke. "What would happen to this child if she stayed in your room as an ordinary child and she wasn't smarter?" he asked, pointing to Laura. "Ashlyn, please move quickly; you do not deserve our love and instruction! Get out of here quickly!"
Ashlyn was completely rendered speechless in shock.
Bert and Ambrose also frowned, too disappointed to speak for her.
They even felt that Albert was a little gentle.
It took Ashlyn a long time to realize her situation. She then held onto Bert's leg and cried, pleading, "Uncle Bert! Grandpa Albert wants to drive me away. Please help me! I don't want to go abroad. I have no father. You're my family. Please!"
Bert was unmoved. "I will send you abroad as soon as possible."
Ashlyn cried more fiercely. "I don't go! Mommy has given birth to another child. She doesn't like me anymore! You're the only family I have now! I have no one else!"
Laura frowned. She thought, 'The only family? Then why do you still cause them trouble every day?'
Bert experienced some distress as well, but he quickly overcame his emotions and shook off her hand. "You should first apologize to Laura, bow down, and ask for her pardon if you truly believe you are mistaken. Perhaps we could give you another chance if she pardons you."
Ashlyn stopped crying abruptly and looked at Laura, who frowned with disgust on her face.
She asked herself inwardly, 'Do I have to forgive her?
'I don't want her to apologize to me if she doesn't mean it.'
