Just as Laura was thinking, Ashlyn turned around and cried to grab the trouser leg of Bert. She shouted, "No! Why should I apologize?"
Bert didn't expect it and looked at Ashlyn in astonishment.
Ashlyn clung to his calf, her face flushed with tears, but her tone and demeanor showed that she didn't think she was wrong.
She continued, "I didn't do anything wrong! She was unlikeable from the beginning! Uncle Bert, you should care about me! You lost your daughter! You only have me now! I am willing to be treated as your daughter! Please!"
Bert's face suddenly darkened, and he kicked Ashlyn away. He said, "What right do you have to mention my daughter?"
Ashlyn was thrown to the ground, wailing loudly.
Bert's breathing became rapid, and he glared at Ashlyn angrily. He said, "You refuse to apologize, right?"
Ashlyn felt no guilt, kicking her legs on the ground. She shouted, "I won't apologize! I have my pride! I haven't done anything wrong at all. Why should I apologize!"
The remorse in Bert's eyes gradually extinguished. He slowly clenched his fists.
Ashlyn rolled on the ground, spinning around with herself as the axis. She shouted, "You don't like me anymore! You don't treat me well! You even want me to apologize to Laura! She is the one who should apologize! She stole your love from me! Even my grandpa doesn't love me anymore! I won't apologize!
"I won't apologize even if I die!"
Laura, unable to bear it any longer, took a deep breath and suddenly roared, "Stop crying!"
Ashlyn stopped crying abruptly and stared at Laura in astonishment.
Laura had already been tired of it. She said, "I get annoyed whenever I hear you cry. Who cares about your apology? How many lollipops is your pride worth?"
Bert looked at her in surprise. Ambrose and Albert also blinked out of shock.
Ashlyn was so angry that she picked up a compass from the ground and threw it at Laura, shouting, "Then go die!"
Laura was caught off guard, but someone suddenly embraced her, and the embrace was full of fragrance. When she regained her senses, she noticed that the compass was stuck straight into the man's hand, stagnant for a moment, then fell to the ground.
No one said anything.
Laura looked at the blood beads welling up on the back of Bert's hand in shock. She said, "Uncle Bert?"
Bert met her gaze with guilt and asked, "Did I scare you?"
Laura shook her head blankly, quickly taking out a handkerchief from her pocket to help him staunch the bleeding. She said, "Uncle Bert, you're bleeding!"
Bert watched her dabbing at his wound, blowing on it as she dabbed, her face filled with deep concern.
His gaze involuntarily grew even deeper. Then he turned angrily towards Ashlyn and shouted, "What are you doing?"
Ashlyn widened her eyes, her gaze fixed on his hand supporting Laura.
There was Laura's handkerchief.
Ashlyn suddenly felt a sharp pain. A sense of betrayal welled up in her heart, and she wailed even louder, "You're torturing me! Help! Uncle Bert is going to kill me!"
She rolled on the ground again and continued, "Laura is so despicable! Let her die!"
Laura bit her lower lip and was a little angry, but she held back.
She looked at Bert and Albert.
However, she saw that Bert's expression was more serious, and his veins could be seen on his forehead.
Albert clenched his hands tightly.
But ultimately, neither of them said anything.
Bert lifted Laura up and touched the bump on her head. He said, "I didn't protect you well. Let's go to the hospital for a check-up."
Albert followed closely behind.
Ambrose sighed and left without saying anything.
Ashlyn continued to cry until she cried herself tired and opened her eyes, only to find Emma still by her side.
She got up in confusion and muttered, "Where are my uncle and grandpa?"
Emma sighed and replied, "They left long ago. You should have yielded earlier. I told you to let that girl go, but you got caught in the act. Now, you're going to be sent abroad!"
Ashlyn didn't understand her words at first. Then she suddenly realized it and asked, "Do you really think they will do it this time? Are they really going to send me abroad?"
Emma retorted, "What do you think?"
Ashlyn became more panicked. She hurriedly grabbed Emma's arm and said, "This is all Laura's fault. Emma, you know it! Can you help me?"
Emma was angry and anxious. But she couldn't bear to see Ashlyn suffer. She hugged Ashlyn and said, "I'll help you! We'll definitely find a way to keep you here!"
At this moment, Laura was taken into Albert's car. And they were going to the military hospital.
Bert was driving, while Albert and Ambrose were sitting beside her. They asked with particular concern, "How are you feeling now? Dizzy? Nauseous? Any discomfort?"
Laura found this scene very familiar.
It seemed like she was always getting injured with her head.
She honestly replied, "It hurt a lot, and I felt nauseating when I was hit, and I couldn't move. But I'm much better now. Thank you, Grandpa Albert and Grandpa Ambrose."
Ambrose said with concern, "Look at you. Didn't I tell you that he's your grandpa and I'm his brother? Just call us Grandpa. Why be so distant with us?"
Laura blinked and lowered her head awkwardly.
Albert blamed Ambrose. He said, "I don't mind if she doesn't accept me. Why are you pushing her like this?"
Ambrose felt anxious and said, "You're usually so decisive in business. You should show some of that to Laura! You couldn't win over your own children in the past, and now you can't even win over your granddaughter? You should build a close relationship with her when she is only four years old. Otherwise, do you want to be close to her in her twenties? Do you think it's possible?"
While speaking, Ambrose held Laura's hand forcefully yet gently and said, "Don't listen to him. Listen to me. Carol has been sowing discord between your mom, uncle, and grandpa since she was young! It took your grandpa several years to get a divorce, and the children were all leaning towards their mom, influenced by your grandma. Your grandpa wasn't important in the family. But now that we have the chance, we should keep close!"
Laura seemed to understand vaguely, looking at Albert.
Albert gazed at her with deep guilt, his remorse evident. He said, "Don't mind what he says. I won't force you to call me Grandpa, especially since I owe your mom. Just take care of yourself."
She didn't say much more, simply nodding thoughtfully. Then she was taken to the hospital.
After a detailed examination, the doctor said there was nothing serious and advised her to rest and observe.
Only then did Albert feel relieved. He turned to Laura and said, "You'll stay here tonight. I've already informed the production team. You'll stay here for observation for the day."
Laura nodded as she lay on the hospital bed.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Ambrose came in joyfully with a box of takeout. He waved it around as if it were a treasure!
"Look what I got! The takeout of the coldest district! Super fragrant and authentic! Come and taste!"
Laura got excited, propping herself up to take a closer look.
Ambrose looked like Albert, but Ambrose was more spirited and relaxed, as if he were born to be the center of attention at square dancing.
