Laura was surprised. "Why does he want you to be my bodyguard? You still have other things to do!"
Spider casually pulled a ham sausage from her pocket and tore it open. "No worries, I'm usually fighting anyway. It's a rare quiet day for me. Besides, weren't you always getting kidnapped before? Joshua is worried about you, and he trusts no one else around you. Don't overthink it. Your childhood sweetheart is waiting for you in the classroom. I'll finish this sausage and head over!"
Laura nodded, suddenly feeling incredibly safe.
'Am I the only one who brings a bodyguard to class?' she wondered, gripping her backpack strap tightly, amused by the thought as she headed to the classroom.
At that moment, inside the classroom. Zayn, dressed in a suit, fiddled with the cutlery on the dining table.
Suddenly, someone snatched the knife right from in front of him.
He looked up sullenly at an extremely punchable face that was not exactly handsome. "Where's your little girlfriend? My little cousin?" the boy taunted.
Zayn's expression was unreadable, a chill flickering in his deep eyes. "Clifford, if you've got nothing to do, go back to the pigsty where you belong."
Clifford laughed loudly, sitting across from him, signaling the boys and girls around to gather. "Let me introduce you all. He should be my cousin or something. I don't remember exactly. Anyway, he's some kind of relative!"
The boys stood behind Clifford, obviously well-trained sycophants, mocking Zayn.
The girls, however, looked on with pity, too scared to speak up.
Clifford, holding the dining knife, sneered, "You might not know this, but Zayn is his dad's illegitimate son. Our entire family didn't approve of his mom marrying in! That's why he lived in the orphanage for so long, a poor dog. Only this year did he climb up to be somebody."
The boys laughed out loud.
The girls couldn't muster a smile, their eyes filled with concern.
Zayn just lifted his chin, calmly watching him, not uttering a word.
Taron couldn't stand it anymore, rebuking, "Clifford, you're being too much! Zayn has always been polite to you since he met you, treating you like a brother. What do you think of him?"
Clifford shrugged, "An illegitimate son, what else?"
He looked at Zayn with a smirk, "You don't think you're anything good, do you? If it weren't for your dad's ex-wife cheating on him, you wouldn't even have the chance to become a Graham."
Zayn squinted without saying anything.
Taron, unable to hold back, slammed the table, "Clifford, are you looking for a fight?"
Clifford was cool and collected, his eyes barely visible through his squint, a cunning glint passing through, "I am looking for a fight, but can you beat me? As far as I know, Taron, your family runs a restaurant, right? A son of a meal-seller dares to act up in front of me?"
Taron's chest heaved with rage, "At least I'm better than you!"
Clifford laughed, "Better? Your great-grandfather's great-grandfather was better? You dare to beat the cousin of the man you're supposed to suck up to?"
Taron gasped, rushing forward to hit him.
Zayn grabbed him, holding him back fiercely.
Taron, bursting with youthful vigor, couldn't bear it, "Zayn, he's literally shitting on our heads. We can't tolerate this!"
Zayn's eyes darkened ominously, "Wait a bit longer." Clifford laughed even louder, emboldened. "Wait for what, Zayn? You're too scared to confront me because I'm the legitimate heir of the Graham family! If you weren't my grandfather's grandson, you wouldn't even have the right to step into our house."
As he spoke, he sneered at Zayn, "And although you have a pretty little girl by your side now, my mom says a girl like Laura Yale, who's always in the spotlight, can't be married off because she'll be dirty when she grows up, kissed by many men!"
Suddenly, a fork flashed coldly, stabbing right in front of him.
Clifford gasped, his eyes widening in shock as screams erupted around.
Everyone stared at Zayn, who had rushed forward with the fork.
They wondered, 'How did he get up so fast? Did anyone see clearly?'
Zayn stood before Clifford, pinching his face, threatening with the fork, "If you dare to say another word against Laura, I'll gouge your eyes out. Pardon my bluntness, but your status is worthless."
Zayn pressed the fork against Clifford's eyelid, his smirk turning maniacal, "Does trash like you even deserve to mention her name?"
Taron watched, dumbfounded. He pondered, 'Damn. Zayn usually doesn't resort to violence. But when he does, it's explosive, defending Laura as if triggering a bomb, ready to blind Clifford right there!'
Clifford didn't dare move, feeling the pressure of the fork on his eyelid, pain searing through him, making him want to cry out. He cried inwardly, 'Has this guy gone mad?'
He bluffed, his voice shaky, "Try blinding me and see! My grandfather won't let you off!"
Zayn was emotionless, and his force on the fork intensified.
Clifford yelped in pain, clutching his eyes, "Ah!!!"
A flicker of satisfaction crossed Zayn's eyes as he prepared to drive the fork deeper.
Suddenly, a gentle voice rang out—"Zayn."
Zayn froze, the murderous intent vanishing instantly as he turned to see who it was.
Laura stood at the door, wearing a pristine white skirt, her eyes clear and luminous, staring at the scene.
Zayn's face changed slightly, an embarrassed tension climbing into his face, and he hastily hid the fork behind him, "You saw everything?"
He seldom resorted to bloody violence in front of Laura.
Laura was fundamentally a gentle soul, having been too afraid to even talk loudly before she was adopted, never liking his fights or foul language.
Zayn's face tensed with anxiety. "I didn't do it first. He provoked me."
Laura didn't speak. Instead, she walked up to him and took the fork from his hand.
Zayn's body trembled slightly, a trace of concern climbing his voice, "Laura, I—"
Laura raised her hand, her gaze fixing firmly on Clifford, "What did you just say?"
Clifford was still reeling, his anger flaring up, "What did I say?"
Her eyes gleamed with a cold light, "You just said Zayn doesn't deserve to become a Graham?"
Clifford stuttered, staring at her incredulously, "I did say that, so what?"
Calm and composed, she pointed outside to Spider, her voice chilling, "I want you to repeat that in front of my bodyguard."
Hearing this, Clifford was confused.
"I will absolutely not allow anyone to bully Zayn. If you dare say it, I dare to beat you. Try me."
Zayn was surprised.
