Clifford's face was clouded with anger as he kept silent.
His mother had instructed him to pretend to be friends with Zayn, but he couldn't stand Zayn's good looks, which is why he often picked on him. He was also terrified that someone would tell his mother.
Scowling, he snapped, "Can't you act like an adult for once? Have you no shame?"
Laura, taken aback by his words, suddenly laughed, "You're scared, aren't you?"
"Scared? Me?" Clifford responded incredulously.
Laura nodded, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "You're definitely scared of your mom. If you dare to bully Zayn, I dare to get even!"
Clifford was seething, thinking, 'How could I be outsmarted by this little girl?'
Turning his frustration towards Zayn, Clifford barked, "Can't you act like an adult? Why do you have to play dirty?"
Feeling the warmth from Laura's hand, Zayn coldly swept his gaze towards Clifford, "What Laura says goes. You, get lost."
Clifford was left speechless.
Laura, lifting her chin proudly, declared, "That settles it then. If you're mean to Zayn, I'll tell your mom!"
Furious, Clifford clenched his teeth with rage.
He shouted inwardly, 'Damn! Damn it! How dare these two collude to bully me?
'If I don't have a backup plan, I'd be at a loss for how to get revenge! But since I do have one, I won't be taken down easily.'
Just then, the classroom door swung open. A woman strode in confidently. "Ladies and gentlemen, get your stuff ready. We're about to start the etiquette class. Sorry, I'm late. I was on a phone call."
Clifford smirked confidently at the woman.
She walked up to the dining table in a crisp white business suit, her makeup delicate, set down her phone, and smiled warmly at the children. "Since we have some new faces today, let me reintroduce myself. My name is Lana Wexler. You can call me Ms. Wexler. I'm here to teach you etiquette, and I hope every day spent with me is enjoyable. One day, when you're all grown up, I hope to see you all well-mannered in various social settings."
As she spoke, her friendly gaze fell on Laura and Zayn.
Suddenly, Clifford coughed lightly.
Lana looked towards him, and he gave her a look that said, "Teach these two a lesson. I don't like them."
Lana's expression darkened. She was clearly annoyed.
She thought, 'This troublemaker was asking me to pick on someone again.'
She looked at Laura and Zayn and licked her lips anxiously.
As someone who enjoyed variety shows, she recognized the pair: Laura, the clever and adorable girl, and Zayn, Wolfling, whom she wished she could have met when she was decades younger.
Initially excited to be their teacher and even planning to take photos with her colleagues after class, Lana now felt irritated by Clifford's request.
Seeing her unresponsive, Clifford narrowed his eyes menacingly.
"What are you doing? What's taking so long? Don't you want your job anymore?" Lana could almost hear Clifford scolding from his gaze.
Lana, feeling the pressure, knew she had to comply. She nodded.
She was a distant relative of Clifford's mother.
Her own mother had schemed tirelessly to curry favor with Clifford's mother for a good job. Clifford's mom arranged for her to work in a place where she could frequently interact with the parents of wealthy families.
Not only was the salary for this job generous, but she also regularly received designer bags and small gifts from the parents, allowing her to expand her network.
So she couldn't afford to lose her job.
Therefore, this job also required her to be completely obedient to Clifford.
Reluctantly following Clifford's lead, she turned to Spider, the bodyguard. "Excuse me, miss, would you mind stepping outside?"
Spider paused, a bit stunned, but quickly complied and turned to leave. However, as she left, she shot Clifford a fierce glare, her eyes warning, "Kid, I'm watching you. Try something and see what happens."
Clifford's mouth twitched, but he still stared defiantly at her.
Spider closed the door and peeked through the crack, determined not to miss a moment. She thought, 'Didn't expect that, did you? A tricky little brat. A top-notch bodyguard never lets her guard down!'
Lana, leaning against the dining table, began the class with a casual tone, "Alright, let's start the lesson. First, let me explain why your parents signed you up for this class. Do you know how much per class costs?"
The new kids shook their heads.
"1.5 thousand," Lana stated flatly.
Laura's eyes widened in shock. "1.5 thousand?"
The other children were equally surprised, not understanding why it was so expensive.
Lana smiled, saying, "I can see by your faces you're shocked. But what I'm teaching you is royal etiquette. No matter the occasion, you'll be able to conduct yourselves with ease. Ultimately, etiquette is about basic respect. You'll all attend various important events, and your manners will represent you. To ensure the tuition isn't wasted, please pay attention, or I'll have to ask you to leave."
As Clifford's gaze slid slyly towards Zayn, Zayn didn't even glance at him. Laura watched Clifford warily.
Lana, pretending to ignore the underlying tensions among these three, continued, "Today, we'll start with dining etiquette. Please pick up the napkin on your plate, gently unfold it beside you, and then fold it in half."
She demonstrated these actions where all the children could see her.
Laura followed suit carefully.
At the moment, their seating was arranged like this: they were at a rectangular dining table, with Laura and Zayn side by side, and Clifford across from them. Laura and Zayn were entirely surrounded by Clifford's male friends, while the girls were excluded.
Laura kept a vigilant eye on her surroundings as she mimicked Lana's movements.
Suddenly, her napkin was snatched away.
Looking up, Laura saw a boy in a suit beside her smirking maliciously.
When Zayn saw this, his eyes darkened, ready to hand her his napkin.
But Laura quickly snatched the napkin back from the boy and raised her hand, "Ms. Wexler, this boy just threw his napkin away!"
Zayn, Clifford, and the boy all wore expressions of confusion.
Lana frowned, realizing that Clifford had tried and failed to harass someone.
She had deliberately avoided looking their way earlier, fearing that if she had to review the surveillance footage later, Laura's parents would question why she hadn't intervened—after all, offending Laura's family was not something she could afford.
She didn't know who had instigated the incident, but she knew it wasn't Laura.
Without displays of emotion, she warned, "Stop messing around, or I'll have to send you out."
Laura, unsatisfied, continued, "Ms. Wexler, could we switch his seat? I feel disrespected by him."
The boy's eyes widened. "Laura! You—"
Laura remained calm, looking at him, "Easy there. There's a camera overhead. Do you really want me to ask Ms. Wexler to check the footage?"
