The boy's expression suddenly tensed, and he fell silent.
Lana, at a loss for words, agreed, "Switch."
The frustrated boy stood up, making room for another who seemed a bit more cultured to sit beside Laura.
Zayn's eyes followed Laura, and suddenly, she looked up at him, offering an innocent smile.
Zayn was momentarily taken aback.
Laura leaned closer and whispered softly, "Don't worry, Zayn. I've learned a lot and I've grown up. I can protect you now, just like you protected me at the orphanage."
Zayn's eyes widened in stunned silence as he gazed back at her.
Laura gave a slight smile, sweet as peach juice, even fresher and more delightful.
As Zayn gazed at her, a spontaneous smile lit up his face, their hands innocently intertwined. Laura playfully scratched the palm of his hand, prompting Zayn to pull away with a teasing scold, all the while smiling gently.
Laura suppressed her laughter as she suddenly felt a sharp gaze from across the table.
She looked over to find Clifford glaring at her like a ravenous beast, his chest heaving with rage.
Amused by his fury, she playfully made a face at him.
Clifford inhaled sharply in shock. He shouted inwardly, 'Damn it!'
Lana continued to ignore the children's antics, teaching everyone how to properly use a napkin. "Don't just lower your head to wipe your mouth. Pick up the napkin, open one corner, bring it close to your cheek, and wipe with the inside, holding the rest," she instructed, demonstrating the action herself at the end of the table.
The kids mimicked her, though their movements were slightly off.
Lana stood up and walked over to guide them, "Watch my movements. Everyone follow me."
She stood at the end of the table, while Laura was at the front.
Clifford saw an opportunity and sneakily slid under the table, reaching to lift Laura's skirt.
Zayn's eyes darkened, not knowing what he was up to but feeling a sudden tightness in his chest at the sight of Laura in her white dress. As Clifford's head neared, Zayn kicked him away fiercely. "Get away from her!"
Clifford, caught off guard, held his head in pain, "Ouch! That hurts!"
Everyone was startled, looking under the table.
Lana, speechless with irritation, asked, "Clifford, what are you doing? Why are you under the table like you're playing whack-a-mole?" While saying this, she thought, 'Even for bullying, this was absurd!'
Clifford, in pain, tried to crawl out from under the table. Zayn, still not satisfied, kicked him several more times.
Clifford howled in pain, "Zayn, what are you doing?"
Everyone was puzzled, watching the two of them.
Laura, too, was clueless but saw Zayn's face shadowed with intent to kill. He quickly spread the napkin over her lap, his tone chillingly grave, "Clifford, what exactly were you doing under the table?"
Clifford tensed up, defensively claiming, "What did I do? I just went down to pick something up. I dropped my napkin!"
Zayn sneered, "Napkin? You were trying to look up Laura's skirt. You think I didn't know?"
Laura was shocked as if struck by lightning. She thought, 'Looking up my skirt?'
The girls were stunned, covering their mouths in disgust, "Oh my gosh, Clifford, how could you look up a girl's skirt!"
"So ungentlemanly! That's awful!"
"Disgusting!"
"Pervert!"
"Filthy!"
"Sleazy!"
Clifford's face flushed red. He retorted, "What are you talking about? Do you have any proof, or do you just believe whatever Zayn says? Don't you care about evidence?"
One of the girls, baffled, responded, "What proof do we need when Zayn, who's so good-looking, can't possibly lie?"
Clifford, baffled, "So you're just being fair because Zayn is handsome? That's your sense of justice?"
The girls scoffed, "Not at all!"
Clifford challenged, "What if Zayn was peeking under skirts?"
The girls' expressions changed, panicking, "Zayn would never look up Laura's skirt! Are you asking for a beating?"
"Are you insulting their relationship?"
The boys smirked, agreeing with a glance at Clifford, "Yeah, Clifford, you really went too far this time. Zayn isn't the type to do that, but you seem like you might be."
Clifford was speechless. What a brutally honest accusation!
Zayn stood opposite him, his eyes seething with fury, "Clifford, get out, or we're not continuing this class."
Clifford, taken aback, laughed mockingly, "You think you're so tough? So what if I looked? Do you even know that Laura's underwear is pink and really cute? You've never seen them!"
Zayn's gaze darkened, and he grabbed a knife from the table, aiming it at him.
Laura's face turned pale, and she hugged Zayn, "Zayn, don't be rash!"
Zayn, like a furious beast, charged at Clifford, "Let me go! He dared to do such a thing to you!"
Laura clung to him, "He didn't see anything. What he said is a lie! That's not my color!! I'm wearing pants!"
Zayn, whose eyes were filled with fury, paused, "What?"
Laura, still in shock, all sweaty. "I'm wearing pants!" She lifted a corner of her long dress, revealing the anti-peep pants underneath.
They were dark blue with stripes, and printed boldly across them were the words: "Peek at girls' underwear and go blind tonight!" "What are you looking at? Get lost!" "Anyone who reads this is in for a treat. I'm her mom, who will come to meet you with a knife."
Seeing these words, everyone was lost for words and fell silent.
Their mouths twitched as their gaze gradually shifted upwards to Laura.
Laura let her skirt fall back down, resignedly saying, "I always wear these pants under my skirt because my mom said there are too many perverts around. She designed these to mock them and told me to always tell her if someone saw them. She'd handle it herself!"
She then sent a cutesy voice message to Winnie, "Mom, didn't you say to tell you if someone tried to peek at my underwear? Just now, my classmate crawled under the table trying to peek, and I told you, are you coming now?"
But soon, several messages popped up—
Joshua: [Which boy is looking for trouble by peeking at your underwear?]
Louis: [?????]
Antonio: [Are you in an etiquette class?]
Favian: [How dare him?]
Xander: [Which floor are you on in the building?]
Everett: [On my way.]
Jasper: [On my way.]
Laura gasped. "Oh no! I meant to send it to my mom, but I sent it to the family group instead. Seems like a lot of people are upset!"
She looked at Clifford, whose face was turning ashen. "Maybe you should call your mom and dad, too. Looks like I've summoned in eight people."
Clifford was too stunned to say a word.
Eight people? Even if he called his parents, that still wouldn't be enough to face eight on their own! How could that ever be enough?!
