Xander taunted with a half-smirk, "Is this all you kids know? Resorting to violence?"
Everyone turned their attention back to him. Zayn retorted, "Otherwise what?"
Everett had run out of patience. "Xander, do you have any brilliant ideas today?"
Laura watched curiously.
Xander slowly undid the buttons on his sleeve, his expression cool. "Call the parents. Let them see for themselves what their son, who loves flipping up girls' skirts, is really like."
Clifford gasped and dropped to his knees, clinging to Xander. "Xander, please no! Think about the time you beat me up! My dad will totally kill me if he knows I did this."
Xander patted Clifford's head with a pang of pity, "That does break my heart. I never imagined you could be so pitiful."
Clifford nodded eagerly. "Yeah! So, please don't call my folks, okay? I'll lay low and take the heat. I swear I didn't mess up!"
Xander scoffed coldly. "But I already informed your dad on the way here." He pulled out his phone and played a voice message from Clifford's dad. "Sorry, Xander. I haven't raised my son right. Putting off my meeting and I'll be there to deal with him."
Clifford was horrified.
Xander gleefully pocketed his phone, his smile beaming. "I hear it's trendy now to postpone meetings because the CEO is chasing after the female lead. But you might just be the first protagonist to get a meeting postponed because your CEO dad is coming to beat you up."
Clifford was thunderstruck. He hadn't even touched Laura's skirt, and yet his dad was already coming to smack him down.
Jasper squatted in front of him, a vicious smile in his eyes. "You're still provoking us despite your fear. When your dad's walloping you later, I'm gonna record it. How about I show it at every birthday party of yours? Sound good?"
Clifford's tears came in an instant, and he clung to Jasper, crying out, "Ahh, Jasper, you can't bully family. I made a mistake. Please plead for me!"
Jasper hugged him with one arm, grinning like a fox. "Pleading to me won't cut it; you should beg Laura."
Realization struck Clifford like lightning, and he turned to Laura. "Laura!"
Laura took a step back in shock.
Clifford sobbed as he enveloped her in a hug. "Laura, I'm so foolish. But I've changed. I admit my mistakes. Forgive me, please?"
In that moment of embrace, Laura was pushed back another two steps to regain her balance. But just in that instant, Xander's eyes darkened. Everett's fists clenched suddenly. Jasper's laughter filled the air. Zayn's gaze turned even more perilous as he stared fiercely at Clifford's back.
Laura's eyes blinked rapidly and her mouth twitched as she watched all the sharp gazes fixate on her. "Clifford, I can forgive you and we can talk it out, but... you shouldn't have hugged me."
Clifford's breath hitched, his body going rigid as he turned to face Zayn's leading razor-sharp gaze.
Zayn's eyes flashed red, his voice frighteningly low. "Get your hands off Laura. Now."
Clifford apologized, "I'm so sorry!"
In an instant, the four were swarming him. Laura was even shoved out of the eye of the storm, left awkwardly looking around.
The girls excitedly gave the thumbs up while the boys all turned away in unison, pretending they saw nothing.
Lana breathed a sigh of relief for staying out of the mess.
Spider stood in the doorway, unable to close its eyes in horror, holding a milkshake and shaking its head, "Holy smokes, this kid! That was brutal! How's he gonna survive in school after this?"
Clifford continued to scream nonstop, "Ahhh! Stop drawing on my face!"
But Everett was unfazed, "Come on, who's got hair wax? Let's give him a sea urchin hairdo."
With a devious smile, Jasper taunted, "You made Laura lose face in the tutorial class, so it's only fair for you to lose face too. Just wait and see."
Clifford kept on howling. "Are you guys all sick in the head with your sister complex or what?"
Zayn coldly held up a napkin fashioned into makeshift underwear. "I don't have a sister complex."
Tears filled Clifford's eyes as he looked at Zayn. "But you are insanely a Laura complex. What's the difference?"
Zayn scoffed with a smirk, "Oh, there's a difference." He then proceeded to pull the homemade underwear over Clifford's head, "Let me show you what that difference is."
Clifford howled, "I'm so sorry!"
Crowds had started to gather outside, eager for the show. "Holy smokes! What a scene!"
"Clifford's family is loaded too, but isn't he terrified of the Smith brothers? How does he dare cross Laura?"
"I can't stop laughing. This is gold."
"Should we put this on TikTok?"
"Nah, let's not. We'd get in trouble for sure. Don't even think of filming Clifford like that."
"I'll just have to imprint this image of Clifford in my nightmares then, hahaha!"
Laura took a few steps back, listening to Clifford's endless cries of terror while he was tormented by the four boys, and she sighed in resignation. Suddenly, someone tapped her shoulder. A group of bright-eyed girls looked eagerly at Laura, clutching their phones, and asked timidly, "Laura, can we take a picture with you?"
He was stunned but nodded.
The girls huddled close, snapping photos with her and expressing their gratitude, "Thank you so much! We adore you! You're so pretty! Watching you, Zayn, and your brothers on the variety show is our favorite thing ever. We'll be rooting for you in the next season."
She nodded happily in response, "Thanks, girls!"
Seeing this, more and more people came up to take pictures.
Lana stood aside with a grimace on her face. To the left was Clifford, being tormented, crying and shouting nonstop. On the other side, there was Laura, posing with fans like a heartless selfie machine. She massaged her temple in defeat.
At the end of the corridor, a girl with a high ponytail was making her way towards the commotion. Her outfit was nothing fancy—just a simple white blouse and sweeping wide-leg jeans—but her tall frame and sculpted physique were hard to ignore. Her face was smooth, yet her clear, apricot-hued eyes stood out, giving her the allure of a wild bobcat casually appearing on the scene. With a carrying pole perched effortlessly atop, she craned her neck, peering curiously inside.
Whispers rippled among the other girls, their eyes glued to Zayn and Laura, as well as the Smith brothers, "They're so good-looking."
"Totally," another chimed in, "like, they look several times better than anyone you'd see on TV."
The girl didn't bother with pleasantries; she simply nudged past them. They turned their heads in surprise at the sight of her carrying pole, side-stepping to give her room.
Pushing through the crowd, she arrived at the entrance of the classroom just in time to see a fight unfolding. Her eyes darkened with intensity and she dropped her carrying pole, diving into the fray with the speed of lightning and aimed a kick at Zayn.
Laura shouted in alarm, "Zayn! Watch out!"
Zayn's reflexes kicked in, dodging just in time as the girl's raised leg grazed past his face. His eyes widened slightly in shock, unexpectedly locking with hers, showing a hint of surprise. With a furrowed brow, Zayn's bewilderment was brief as the girl launched another attack, a spinning kick sweeping toward his neck.
