Zayn reacted with lightning speed, crouching down as he felt a chilling sweep aimed at his legs. With a swift motion, he kicked out, shouting, "What the hell?"
Ignoring him, the girl launched another kick this time directed at Everett. Everett felt the gust of a powerful kick coming his way and grabbed her foot with a precise counter-movement. Shocked, the girl froze for a second. With a cold smirk, Everett showed no mercy. He seized her and executed a perfect judo throw.
The girl crashed heavily onto the table, screaming in pain, "Ahhhh!" She couldn't believe how strong this guy was.
Laura rushed to her, "Are you okay?"
But there, Everett stood behind Laura, intimidating as ever. "I thought some punk was trying to sneak attack me, but it turns out it's a girl. Don't blame me for laying a hand on you. You started it."
Laura reached out to help the girl up, but as soon as she touched her arm, the girl fiercely knocked her hand away. "Don't touch me!"
A burning sting spread across Laura's hand in an instant. Her hand trembled, turning red, while her face spelled confusion. She retreated in a panic, struggling to understand what had just happened.
Zayn moved in to examine Laura's hand, glaring at the girl, "Are you mad? Biting people like a rabid dog."
The girl sat up on the dining table, rage in her eyes, but her tone remained cool, "Sorry. It wasn't personal. Just a reflex. I don't like strangers touching me."
Jasper, unable to hide his annoyance, chimed in, "That's your excuse for hitting someone trying to help you up?"
Her expression changed slightly, standing up straight with an air of defiance, "Yes, and I've apologized, haven't I? What more do you want? Should I grovel before Laura?"
Laura snapped, "No one's asking you to grovel! I was just trying to be nice and help you up."
Sitting cross-legged on the table, the girl let out a nonchalant laugh, "My apologies, I didn't notice your kindness. I just felt like you were putting on a show for these guys here. Maybe I'm too blunt, but I think you're just trying to get these guys to like you."
Laura was flabbergasted.
Zayn stepped in front of Laura, his tone as icy as ever, "Being blunt doesn't give you the right to spew garbage."
The others couldn't help but snicker.
The girl frowned, rolling her eyes reluctantly, "Fine. I'm willing to apologize. But Laura, do you actually want my apology? After all, your brother threw me onto the table."
Laura was utterly confused. She didn't need the girl's apology to begin with, but the girl's attitude was starting to annoy her. She bluntly said, "Your apology doesn't conflict with my brother apologizing to you. At least I was trying to help you when I reached out, but you just slapped my hand away. You were rude, and being rude is different from being blunt, isn't it?"
Other girls around nodded in agreement, "Right, Laura was just trying to help. It was indeed quite rude."
"Exactly."
The girl frowned, looking at Laura reluctantly, "Alright, if you put it that way, I apologize, okay?"
Laura, with a look of disdain, replied, "Fine."
The girl stepped down from the dining table and, noticing the crowd around her, called out, "Is Clifford here?"
Confused, Clifford stared at her as if he had seen a ghost. He'd been dumbstruck ever since she appeared, "You... are you really my cousin that was supposed to come back?"
Laura, along with Zayn and the others, were confused.
The girl nodded indifferently and surveyed the room, landing her gaze on Everett and others. "Were you guys fighting?"
Everett sneered, "Yeah, because he was being a bully."
Raising an eyebrow, the girl turned to Laura. "Did he bully you? How did he do it?"
Laura frowned, not too keen on the newcomer. This girl had been nothing but trouble from the start, even attacking Zayn and her family. Keeping her voice low, she said, "He just tried to lift my skirt."
The girl's expression soured. "Did he lift it? Did he see your underwear?"
Laura was taken aback and shook her head. "No, Zayn stopped him."
"And then Clifford got beat up?"
Laura nodded vigorously. "Right."
Laughing loudly, the girl let out a surprising guffaw. Her laughter seemed out of place, and Laura was baffled until the girl licked her lips and looked at her with a mocking angle. "That's what you call bullying?"
Confused, Laura's forehead wrinkled with question marks. "It's really disrespectful."
"All you had to do was punish him for being disrespectful. You had four guys pick on him just for that. Don't you think that's pretty vile?" the girl argued self-rightly. "You're from an orphanage too, right? Are you really okay with letting them gang up on someone just to defend you?"
Everyone was stunned.
The rest of the girls looked on in stunned silence. "That's way too much..."
"Yeah, it was a skirt lift. Can you even defend that?"
"You must have some ulterior motive, right?"
The girl put her hands on her hips, doubling down, "You're the ones with ulterior motives, aren't you? Just because Laura's family has power and money, you are all sucking up to her, supporting her every action. But didn't you forget something key here? Laura's just four years old. Should a four-year-old even be aware of gender issues? What's the big deal about seeing a butt? It's not like it's not fine for kids to pee in the street, right?"
The whole class was deadly silent.
Laura stood there, shocked. Zayn clenched his fists. Everett's face turned stormy unexpectedly.
Clifford looked lost and speechless until he finally forced out, "That's absurd, too absurd. So much that I can't help but ask if you're out of your mind."
The girl's expression shifted, her eyebrows knitting. "Clifford, I'm speaking up for you."
Clifford exasperatedly said, "But I did actually flip her skirt. You can't just defend me like that. It seems like I can't accept my mistake. I think it's best if you stop speaking for me; you're embarrassing yourself."
The corner of the girl's mouth twitched, and then she coldly scoffed at them. "Seems like you all look down on me because I come from the countryside. I can't even defend someone without being ganged up on, right?"
Laura interjected, "Nobody's treating you badly because you're from the countryside. We don't even know you're from there."
The girl was taken aback.
Everett rolled his eyes. "You're being paranoid. Nobody mocks people for being from the countryside anymore. Don't project your own insecurities onto others."
Several classmates chimed in, "Exactly! Do you think who we are? Open your eyes. We're all outstanding students here!"
One of the girls stepped up to the girl confrontationally, "But we don't welcome someone like you here, who maliciously interprets others' intentions and sides with someone who skirt-lifts a girl!"
A group of girls lined up defiantly, "Right! Laura is four, but even if she were one, no one has the right to lift her skirt. Since you won't stand with us girls, you can just get out!"
"Yep! Get out!"
