Celia stood bewildered in front of Vince, her voice tinged with injustice. "Grandpa, I don't get it. What did I do wrong for you to send me away? It was supposed to be my party, and Mr. Sebastian Fuller came because of me. Why are you kicking me out?"
Vince appeared equally puzzled. "Mr. Sebastian Fuller is here for you?" he questioned, incredulous. "How much of an impression do you think you've made? There's no way he's here for you! Mr. Sebastian Fuller doesn't take on students lightly. Laura is the only proper apprentice he's accepted after a rigorous interview process!"
Celia raised her voice in protest, "But you're rich! You could pay to hire him. After all, he's just a teacher. Can't he be bought?"
Vince, Dexter, Clifford's Mom, Terence, and Dexter could only offer speechless stares.
Clifford's jaw dropped in disbelief. "Unbelievable! Does such a brazen attitude exist in this world?"
Sebastian, catching wind of the conversation, turned with disdain in his eyes.
Unrelenting, Celia waved her arms toward him. "Mr. Fuller! What's so special about Laura? She's just a kid, only four years old. She doesn't understand anything. But I'll try my hardest to find what I want. Please give me a chance!"
Sebastian had hit his limit, and stopped dead in his tracks as Laura looked up at him questioningly, "Mr. Fuller?"
He gazed down at her, eyebrows softening with a tenderness that was quickly replaced by a stern look toward Celia. "And what gives you the right to question Laura's worth?"
Celia, taken aback, replied, "She's young, she doesn't know anything yet, and she can't handle hardship..."
"She can't handle hardship? Have you seen that with your own eyes?" Sebastian's voice was firm and edged with irritation.
Celia bit her lip nervously. "I haven't seen it myself, but she truly is spoiled. You can tell by how her family dotes on her that she's not one to endure hardship. But I'm different. You can discipline me however you see fit. I am willing to follow you and learn art. I'll do whatever it takes."
Sebastian's lips curled with sarcasm. "Is that so? Well, I choose disciples based on character too. You judge someone without even knowing them. That mindset is not what I seek in a student. If you speak ill of my disciple in front of me again, don't blame me if no one else in this field wants to teach you either. After all, my word carries weight here."
Celia's face turned ashen.
With a swift glance toward Vince, Sebastian said sullenly, "Is this the child you're raising?"
Vince, his face aching from forced smiles and his heart tight with anger, stepped forward apologetically, "No, no, that's not it, Mr. Fuller. This child is the daughter of my long-lost second son. Her mother hasn't raised her well. She's got nothing to do with us. Please, don't be upset. Stay for a bit. This is supposed to be a party to apologize to Laura. If the guest of honor leaves, then all this preparation would be for nothing. We've even bought her a go-kart racing outfit!"
Clifford's father, Terence, also came up with a chuckle, "Exactly, the party was meant to celebrate Laura, after all. It'd be no fun if she left. Besides, since Celia lacks manners, why stoop to her level? She's just staying with us temporarily anyway. Please, she's no relation to us!"
Clifford's mother, Eve, nodded vigorously, "Right, Mr. Fuller, please stay for Laura's sake, and Mr. Tyler Larson too! We've prepared gifts. Why bother with someone who hasn't been well-taught from the get-go?"
Vince cleared his throat, trying to sound profound, "You see, my second son passed away early, and he never had the chance to educate his child properly. She's been spoiled by her no-good mother, so I hope you can overlook it."
Sebastian's expression softened slightly as he looked towards Tyler. Tyler, ever generous, put Laura down and said, "Have the girl apologize to my student, and we'll call it even." After all, they had come just to see how the disciple was doing. It wouldn't be right if they took her away like that.
The members of the Graham family nodded fervently and hurriedly pushed Celia forward, "Hurry up and apologize!"
Celia twisted her dress in her hands, her gaze falling upon Laura. Dressed in a princess dress with her dark hair curled up, Laura looked like an adorable princess. A wave of bitterness swept over Celia.
She had initially wanted to retort against the accusations of her mother's poor upbringing. But she was afraid of being scolded.
With eyes brimming with tears, Celia approached Laura, "I'm sorry, Laura."
Everett stood watching with his arms crossed and sneered, "Sorry for what, exactly? Just saying 'I'm sorry' and that's it? You pushed her, after all. You've got to say something worthwhile."
Celia's humiliation intensified, her fists clenched, "I'm sorry, Laura, for lashing out at you, and even insulting you. I was unruly, I was wrong, please forgive me. Stay here. This is your party. I'm fine on my own. Nobody cares about me anyhow. I should've known... nobody likes me!!!"
Laura stood there speechless. Was Celia sneaking in some personal drama into her apology?
Vince was cringing so hard he wished he could vanish into thin air. "I'm so sorry about this. My granddaughter can be a bit much, but trust me, she won't dare do it again. Never again."
Laura blinked her watery eyes and glanced back at Winnie, who gave her a silent nod of approval. She then turned and nodded at Vince, "Okay, Mr. Graham!"
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and suddenly burst into smiles. "Laura is just so adorable! No wonder Zayn likes her. We all do!"
In the corner, Celia watched tearfully. Laura was at the center of attention. Her flawless skin and beauty made her the perfect princess to be adored by all. Zayn and the others stood by her, looking on with half-smiles, their eyes only for her.
Celia covered her mouth, trying to stifle her sobbing, feeling like the most pitiable person abandoned by the world. She pulled out her phone and snapped a few photos of herself crying. Tears glistened on her cheeks, her frown pronounced and lip bitten in sorrow. She managed to get a blurry shot of Laura in the distance as well.
[Even though I live in a 20,000-square-foot mansion with bright lights, the cold night and harsh steel leave me wandering alone. Apart from my new iPhone 14 Pro Max, all happiness belongs to someone else. I have nothing.]
The comments poured in within seconds.
[OMG, iPhone 14 Pro Max? That's lit, Celia! A rich girl in a mansion?]
She sniffled again, replying sadly: [Even living in a mansion can't make me happy. It's so empty. I'd rather go back to the 1,600-square-foot apartment my mom just bought.]
[Girl, tell me what's up when you're feeling down, I've got your back forever!]
Vince appeared equally puzzled. "Mr. Sebastian Fuller is here for you?" he questioned, incredulous. "How much of an impression do you think you've made? There's no way he's here for you!
