Evan looked at them.
Favian eyed him coldly with disgust barely hidden in his gaze.
The female fans licked their lips and huddled together, whispering excitedly, "Is that one of Laura's uncles?"
"He's quite handsome..."
"Not just handsome. He's extremely good-looking."
Evan was confused and thought, 'Did they just switch sides that quickly?'
Facing Favian, Evan said earnestly, "Mr. Yale, the truth is, we didn't mean to bully Laura. It's just that the kid is a bit too sensitive."
Favian stood protectively beside Laura, stoic as an impenetrable wall, "If you didn't bully her, why would she say that? I've watched your variety show before, no need to justify. You're exactly the type who would do such things."
Evan found himself speechless, fists clenched at his side.
The three girl fans gazed at Favian's austere face, "He's talking about Evan. I wanted to scold him loudly, but he's just too handsome."
Evan thought angrily, 'How could my enthusiastic fans switch allegiance so quickly at the sight of another handsome man?'
Evan, full of inner scheming, said with clenched teeth, "Mr. Yale, how about we talk in the office, just the two of us.? I'll explain everything properly."
Favian responded, "Laura, let's go."
Laura put down the tablet and followed Favian to the office, as Andy allowed them privacy.
Once the door closed behind them, the outside noise was left out. The door was closed, isolating the glamorous noise outside.
Favian turned, "Alright. What do you want to say?"
Evan glanced at the door and then he gave a 90-degree bow.
As respectful as possible.
"I'm truly sorry, Mr. Yale. I was wrong in the past, and I've been punished. I want to coexist peacefully with Ms. Yale from now on. She's like a little sister to me, and I will not overstep again. Please forgive me."
Laura was stunned.
Favian chuckled, "You're quick to react."
Evan kept his head bowed low, "I'm sincerely sorry for previously bullying Ms. Yale without realizing my place. But I've learned my lesson and am willing to keep Ms. Yale company."
Yet, Evan thought, 'Since Laura's mother was there, wouldn't it be a great thing to replace her mother without anyone noticing? If he just apologized quickly, no one can punish him.'
The fact was different.
Laura frowned, "I don't want to play with him."
Evan didn't expect it.
Worried his plan might fall through, Evan began to enthusiastically vouch for himself, "Ms. Yale, I can do it. Let me accompany you, and I can help you beat the game completely."
Laura frowned with clear disdain, "It's not about fully completing the game or not. It's that I dislike you. Even though you've apologized, I still really dislike you."
Evan had no words for this, but thought, 'Was my plan about to fall through?'
Laura then turned her eyes to Favian, "But Uncle Favian, would you want to play with me?"
Favian furrowed his brows, "I've never played games before."
His whole demeanor screamed rejection.
Laura tilted her head, "If you don't play games, how did you know that my mom left records in here?"
Laura then glanced at Evan, "Aren't you leaving yet?"
Evan's mouth twitched as he looked toward Favian.
Favian also looked at him with the same disdain.
Suddenly, Evan felt wronged and thought, 'Why couldn't such a handsome man be my benefactor? I'm very open-minded about these things.'
Feeling dejected, Evan adjusted the brim of his cap and left, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
With outsiders gone, Laura earnestly said to Favian, "You should be the only one who knows the fact that my mom left records here, right? Otherwise, why wouldn't Mommy Winnie come here?"
Favian didn't deny, "Yes, only I knew."
When Lilian was seventeen, Favian was already graduating from college and preparing to start a business.
One day, Lilian came down from upstairs, looking bored, "Why isn't anyone around, where's Winnie?"
Favian was focused on his laptop, "Ask Winnie, and don't ask me."
Lilian rolled her eyes and sat beside him. "Favian, I've been under a lot of pressure these past few days. Can you take me out for some fun? Drive me around for a bit."
Favian wanted to ignore her, "We have a driver at home."
But suddenly, Lilian exploded, "I know but you just don't like me. If it were Winnie's ask, would you say yes right away? I've always known that nobody in this family likes me, you'd all be satisfied if I were dead, wouldn't you?"
Favian was baffled, looking at her as if she were insane, "Lilian, there's a limit to acting out. I'm busy with work."
Lilian scoffed, "Sure, I know you're busy with work, but you'd be able to put it off for Winnie. I mean nothing to you."
Favian thought, 'She was tormenting me again.'
He stood up and said, "I'll take you, okay? We can go anywhere."
Lilian pouted and was unmoved.
Favian pulled her along, "Let's go."
Lilian's eyes sparkled mischievously with her anger tinged with playfulness, "Are you treating?"
"I'm treating," Favian replied.
"Anywhere?" Lilian asked.
Favian agreed.
Favian snapped back to reality, seeing Laura who was becoming more and more like Lilian.
Her features blended the exquisite beauty of Antonio and the charming playfulness of Lilian.
One could tell that she would grow up to be breathtakingly beautiful.
At seventeen, Lilian was also very pretty.
For no reason at all, Favian felt a clump of irritability in his chest that he couldn't exhale.
Laura tugged at him, "Come on, Uncle Favian."
Laura led him straight to the two-player arcade where Evan had already left.
She handed him the equipment, "Let's play together."
Andy commented from the side, "Our setup here is the latest and greatest, offering the most lifelike experience even wind is included and ground vibrations, and just watch out not to get hurt, okay?"
"Also, Lilian's character is recorded by a champion. She's like an NPC that will react based on your performance, and she had recorded it all by herself, being a champion and all. She'll accompany you throughout the journey as an NPC."
Laura's heart raced, and she nodded.
Favian put on the VR goggles and for some reason felt a bit nervous.
Andy pressed the power button, "I'm heading out, and enjoy yourselves."
Presented before them were character choices.
A little girl, and a big, burly man.
Laura naturally chose the little girl.
Quickly, the scene changed, and bright skies and flying kites appeared before her which was as if she was flying kites with family.
Suddenly, the SenseNav Platform underneath her vibrated intensely, and the world in front of her crumbled. Laura stumbled and fell to the ground.
White text appeared on the screen, explaining the scenario.
It seemed to be a transition scene.
Favian quickly bent down to catch her. But suddenly, hands appeared in front of them, "Are you alright?"
Laura and Favian were taken aback as they looked up.
The picture slowly came into focus, and there was Lilian, clad in a classic black pleated uniform skirt, reaching out worriedly, "Can you walk?"
Laura's eyes widened in amazement, "Mom?"
