"Scarlet's lying, isn't she? Bob claims he covered all their major expenses..."
"Scarlet's clothes don't look expensive, but Bob's decked out in designer everything. So, she can't be making much, right?"
"He's full of it!"
With a salary over $20,000, he never spent a dime on me!
For years, to protect his fragile ego, I let him take credit in public for paying the rent. But all it did was make him think I didn't deserve better.
On New Year's, he sent me $188—meanwhile, Lucy got $5,200.
At Christmas, he gifted me a knockoff purse while dropping $20,000 on a real Chanel for Lucy.
Whenever I confronted him, he acted like I was just stirring up drama.
"Lucy's still young," he'd say, "If I don't spoil her, some other guy will. But you, Scarlet—you've got your own money. Buy the real thing yourself."

The room went dead silent.
Bob's expression turned stormy.
Lucy shot me a glare, her voice dripping with fake innocence.
"Scarlet, gifts are gifts. You can't just demand money after a breakup."
I arched a brow, my tone razor-sharp.
"Bob and I were in a relationship. Who the hell are you to question me?"
Her eyes welled up like I'd kicked a puppy.
"I just think you're holding him back. With Bob's potential, he could do way better than you! If anything, you should be compensating him."
I didn't hesitate—my palm cracked across her cheek.
Snap!
"With you around, no self-respecting woman would touch him."
Lucy clutched her face, tears streaming. "I was just standing up for Bob! Why are you always attacking me?"
Bob pulled her into a protective hug, shooting me a venomous look. "Enough! You've ruined Lucy's birthday and my reputation. What more do you want?"
My jaw tightened. Just as I opened my mouth to respond—the police...
