Maxxwell's eyes softened at my declaration. "Are you sure? Once we start, I cannot promise I can stop myself from devouring you," he asked. His fingers gently slide down on the side of my face down to my neck. Goosebumps swarmed at every part of my body as he continued to touch not only my body but also my soul and my wolf. "I want you to be sure, River."
Gulping, I nodded. "I am sure."
Maxxwell smiled. This time reaching his eyes.
"How much do you want me?"
More than enough for me not to regret loving you.
I bit my lips.
Maxxwell groaned. "Stop doing that. It drives me crazy."
"What?" I asked him with pure innocence.
"You don't have an idea of your effect on me?"
"What?"
"I'm talking about this one." And Maxxwell bit my lower lips, making me moan. I opened my mouth, allowing him full access to my lips.
We deepened our kiss more passionately while my hands traveled all over his hair, pulling him closer to me. My body felt as if it was on fire.
What about your sister? the rational part of my mind asked.
Maxxwell and I were also mates! I reasoned out as I drowned myself in his hot kisses. I did not know if Zenith truly loved the alpha king or not. I knew nothing about her except our parents' names and hers. "Maxxwell...please...." I begged, my voice needy and achy. I did not know why. However, one thing was for sure. I want this man.
Something built in my stomach and went down there. I felt as if I was going to pee. Was this normal? Or not?
Maxxwell stopped kissing me and leaned against my forehead.
Our breaths mingled.
His eyes were gold but still in control. Good. Because right now, I want him more than his wolf. This should only be between us. Nothing else.
"Oh, god. I want to undress you, River," he whispered, looking at my full lips.
"Please..." I said again in a hoarse whisper, unsure what I wanted at that moment.
Maxxwell ran his thumb over my lips and, on instinct, licked it.
I felt my cheeks go hot when he smirked.
"You do not have to beg, my queen. I will give you everything you want," he promised.
He crushed me using his weight pressed on me. But it was a delicious feeling which I wanted him to do repeatedly.
Pinning both of my hands, restricting my movements, Maxxwell planted feathery kisses on my mark.
I gasped.
"I don't think you're this responsive, woman."
"I want everything you can offer right now," I said.
He smiled, giving me his boyish look. "Be careful what you wish for."
Maxxwell dropped the towel around his hip on the floor, giving me complete access to his body. His shaft sprang to life, and it stood prouder, knowing I was looking at it. My eyes went wide.
He was huge.
I licked my lips. He was muscular everywhere. Tanned. Lickable.
"Tell me if you change your mind. Because after this, there is no turning back."
'Go! Get laid, River!' Sunflower cheered at the back of my mind. She was dancing like crazy. 'No one will stop the two of you. I will kill them.'
Just as I will answer, Zenith's face flashed in my mind.

It felt like a bucket of cold water was thrown all over my body.
Guilt washed over me.
What was I doing again? Why would we compete against each other over some man? And Maxxwell was definitely not the reason why I came here. It was Zenith!
Horror washed over my face.
Awakened from my temporary foolishness, I hopped out of bed and straightened my clothes and hair. Seeing the towel on the floor, I threw it in Maxxwell's direction, telling him to make himself decent. "Cover yourself," I mumbled, refusing to meet his eyes.
His face sank. "Did you come here to tease me? You sure are cruel."
"I came here for the queen. I shouted her name before I came here." I slapped both of my cheeks to calm my racing heart.
That was too close. It was good that the alpha king continued asking for my permission.
Glancing over my shoulder, I said, "Let's forget about this, okay? Are you decent now?"
Maxxwell mumbled something but secured the towel to his hips where it should belong. I sighed in relief.
Could someone tell that we kissed? Oh, Moon Goddess. What if Zenith saw us?
I fixed myself once more time, removing any traces of my sin.
"Forget what happened? That's not an easy thing to do after tasting your lips. I even have a boner, damn it," he cursed.
I fisted on the hemline of my clothes. "Do you know what will happen if we allow our emotions to get over us? If something happened to us, that would complete the mating ceremony."
The mark I had now was incomplete.

"You will have no choice but to denounce Zenith's position as your queen." I drew a continuous breath. "Maxxwell. If you can denounce Zenith and replace me as your queen, look me in the eyes."
I counted in my mind. I waited for him to look me in the eyes.
My nose crinkled when I got no response from him.
I long accepted that Maxxwell had no backbone regarding whom he would choose.
Just like what I expected.
Why should I be surprised again?
I covered my mouth and looked at him, showing my disappointment. "I'm not your whore, Maxxwell."
"River. The Council had approved of her back then. I cannot dethrone her like that. I need a strong reason why I would do it."
Lifting my chin, I asked, "Do you love me? More than Zenith?"
"I...I love her more than anyone else."
It felt like I was stabbed in the chest.
Why did I have to ask him again about it? It was not like I wanted to be hurt again.
"You love her. There is nothing new to that." Which means he did not love me. "What am I to you, then? Your bed warmer? Your sex slave? Your spare key? Your slut?"

With angry strides, I closed the distance between us and pounded his chest. And he just let me.

A tear fell from my eyes which I hastily wiped away.
Why was I acting like this? I no longer understood what was happening to me or why I was feeling like this.
My focus should be Zenith. On how to change her mind and save this kingdom. So why?
My shoulders shook, and I lost the energy to pound his chest.
The alpha king drew me to his warm embrace, making me shudder.
I hate this bond. I hate that I loved him despite everything. Despite knowing he would choose Zenith a million times over me!
The alpha king slowly patted my back.
I sniffed, trying to control my emotions as his scent hit my nostrils.
My chest felt heavy.
"I'm sorry. Sometimes, I want to choose you. Sometimes, I want to choose her over again. I don't know anymore, River. This was all the Moon Goddess's fault for giving me two mates." Disgusted, I stayed away from him. My hands hurt from hitting him.

Angry with myself, I brushed past him and opened the door, and saw the twins stopping Zenith from entering.
They halted and looked at me when they sensed my presence.
It was Zenith who opened her mouth. "Why are you inside?"
I cleared my throat.
Relax. You did not do anything wrong.
'Yes, you did,' Sunflower said in the background. 'You just kissed the alpha king like there's no tomorrow, River. Did you plan to snatch him away from your evil sister? If you do that, I will help you.'
"I...I was looking for you, Your Grace. Right, Clara and Flare?"
The twins nodded profusely. "Yes, you did, River."
Scowling at the twins, Zenith said, "I instructed you that no one should enter the chamber without my knowledge."
Clara scratched her forehead. "You did? I forgot."
"Damn you!" Zenith swore.
"Why are you swearing, Zenith?" It was the alpha king behind me.
My heart skipped a bit when his scent hit me.
Zenith's eyes turned into slits. "Why are the two of you alone? What did you do? What did you talk about?"
"Nothing-"
Zenith quickly disregarded my presence and inspected the alpha king. Especially his neck. He was already wearing a shirt. "Why is this woman's smell all over you?"

"Talked?" She laughed harshly. "You want me to believe in that? I'm not foolish. That's why the twins refused to let me enter. It's because they are giving you the chance to do something scandalous!"
"Nothing is scandalous," the alpha king retorted. "River is my official concubine."
I whipped my head in Maxxwell's direction. How could he lie like that?
"A concubine? I thought we already talked about it. You will not have any concubine. I will make sure I will bear you an heir."
"I changed my mind."
"That's it? You changed your mind because this slut entered your life?" Zenith spat.
"Yes."
Zenith shrieked at the top of her lungs. Not wanting to witness her outburst, the twins secretly made their exit, leaving the three of us.
"Stop throwing a tantrum, Your Grace!" I ordered.
She stopped. "Tantrum?"
"Yes. Because right now, you look like a kid waiting to achieve something but could not have."
"Maxxwell. You want me to forget that you cheated on me?"
"I did not cheat, Zenith," Maxxwell corrected, grinding his teeth.
"You can deny all you want, but I know the truth."
"What do you want? Let's get over this."
