Trap
Another punishment.
I could not believe my sister could be this cunning. She used Maxxwell's sin to trap him until he could not say no to her demands. All because she thought I would tell the alpha king what a big traitor she was in
the kingdom of Vernice.
"Zenith. We can still sort this out," the alpha king pleaded.
She folded her arms in front of her chest.
"You kept on defending her. Why? Because you love her? You fell out of love?"
Love? It is you that the alpha king loved, okay?!
"That's not true, Your Grace. You are the only one in the alpha king's heart."
Why did I keep on hurting myself?
"River. You don't have to say that," Maxxwell said.
"Choose, Maxxwell. That bitch? Or me?"
Maxxwell shook his head. "I don't want to answer it."
"His Majesty will always choose you," I answered instead.
She narrowed her eyes at me.
Where there comes a time when we would be happy as a family?
Where was the woman who was worried about me when Tristan poisoned me? Was that nothing but a bunch of her acts? So that I will never tell anyone a single truth about our relationship?
"Don't talk when I am not talking to you!" she spat.
"Zenith! This is getting longer. Let River go."
Zenith faced the alpha king. "Maxxwell, make up your mind. Will you punish her or not? If you choose the latter, I will reject you. Forget I am your mate."
Rejection?
I stared at her in disbelief. Why did she think of rejection lightly? She was lucky she never got rejected by anyone. And that the alpha king loved her dearly.
My lips quivered as I watched her. "Don't make that foolish decision, Your Grace. You don't know how painful it was for your other half."
"I don't care! You don't have the right to sway my decision."
I shook her shoulders.
"Why would you reject the alpha king? He may have done something wrong, but that is not enough to reject him." Plus the humiliation he will face when his people know about it. The woman whom he was searching for every night was the same one who rejected him without batting an eye. Maxxwell would become the laughingstock of his people. Of his slaves and everyone around him.
Her eyes turned into tiny slits. "So you did not deny you two do something."
"I kissed him. I seduced him. There. Happy? Just accept him. If you do, you will kill him for the second time."
Zenith wanted to slap me again, but I stopped her.
"Forgive me, but my cheeks are already burning from the pain."
"Let me go," she said through gritted teeth.
Sine yanked iner inani from me, winici i released. Due to the force site used, sine wouiui inave nearly fallen over if not for une aipita king's last movements.
Instead of uttering her thanks, she pushed him away from her.
"Punish this woman, Maxxwell."
"Zenith. It was I who kissed River first. She had nothing to do with this."
Zenith's eyes shimmered with tears. "How could you?" she asked, the feeling of betrayal in her eyes. "I, Zenith Dove, reject-"
"Your Grace. I will accept your punishment!" I said, cutting off his words.
The alpha king inhaled sharply.
Call it foolishness, but I did not want anyone to be rejected.
"You love him that much?" she asked.
I did not answer.
"I will go to the dungeon myself," I exclaimed. "Just don't reject the alpha king."
I felt Sunflower's anger burning in my chest.
'What are you doing, River? That is your chance to own the alpha king. Your sister did not deserve the alpha king.'
'But Maxxwell loved Zenith so much that it would kill him if the woman would reject her. I don't want to witness another rejection again.'
'It's no longer your mistake! Use your brain for once, okay? Let your sister reject Maxxwell and seize the throne. Then, punish her for betraying the kingdom. That will save the alpha king. If you do nothing, the
alpha king will know the truth. Do you think he will spare you if he learns you did not do anything about your sister's evil plans? Our loyalty belongs to our mates. Not to your sister, who did not even care about
you.'
'I can't do that. Zenith will get mad at me.'
Sunflower rolled her eyes at me. 'Where did you put your brain? Come on. Think. Be wise!' she snapped. "The one whom you are defending? She did not care about you. When did you consider your sister's feelings? Did she consider yours?'
A emila courly curved on Zenith's face. And that was when I realized everything une mathe a tran for me
An act.
I walked right into her evil plans.
"Guards!" Zenith called. Two guards rushed inside the chamber. "Bring this woman to the dungeon. Put her in the bottom part of the dungeon where the sun's rays will not reach her. Put her there until I give
another order."
They advanced towards me, but before they could reach me, Maxxwell was in front of me, blocking me away from them.
His muscles were tense, and his mouth turned into a snarl.
"No one will touch her," he said, his voice controlled yet dangerous, promising them to slit their throats if they made some wrong move.
I looked up, and all I could see was his large back. Lifting my hand, I rested it on his back and felt him tense but relaxed.
I appreciate him trying to defend me but doing this; it will only anger Zenith.
"Your Majesty. I will go with them just as the queen wanted."
"You won't," he replied curtly.
I sighed. Maxxwell could be stubborn sometimes. "Your Majesty, please."
'If you go with them, I cannot help you there,' Maxxwell said, using our mind link. 'Zenith will become more possessive."
I tried to act as if nothing had happened, careful not to anger Zenith anymore. 'Trust me. I can handle myself. I had stayed at the dungeon once. There is no way I won't come out alive after this.'
Worry flashed over my mind, warming my chest.
Reluctantly, the alpha king stepped to the other side. Zenith's anger welcomed me.
"What kind of spell did you do to him?"
"Ask him."
It had been a couple of days since I stayed in the dungeon. That was what I thought. I was not certain 'cause I never see the sunlight. The food tasted bland and looked like someone else's shit. However, I had no
choice but to eat anything that was given to me.
Being alone in the cell was also enough to think and finalize everything.
If I could not change Zenith's mind, the only thing I could do was stop her. How?
I had already thought of some ways.
"Pssst!"
Disturbed from my internal monologue, I glanced ahead.
The prison guard?
But I was done with my breakfast.
"Go away," I ordered.
Something clicked. Padlock? And someone entered.
"You disappoint me so much, River."
My heart beat wildly as I recognized the voice. Tristan.
I saw red!
