Revelation
Tristan put both hands in front of his chest, stopping me from any attacks in mind. "Nah. I came here to talk," he said calmly. He sniffed the air. "Ugh. You smell bad."
What the fuck.
How the heck could he act calm as if he never dated to kill me a few days ago?
My body shook in anger, my claws itching to rip off his throat. How dare he show his face to me after that? As far as I remember, he was also bleeding profusely at that time. And now. He was healed? I regretted leaving an ounce of life in him.
"Talk? That is the last thing I would do right now, bastard."
He scratched the back of his head.
I wanted to grab the torches hanging on the wall and burn him alive until he screamed at the top of his lungs and begged me to help him.
"You want to kill me? Did you practice?" He scoffed. "I bet not. You are only good at healing. But never fighting."
That may be true, but I would bet my life for the next time we fight that I will do everything I can to finish him off.
"If you value your life, you better go before I still have enough self-control."
The corner of his mouth lifted. "I don't think it's your call to say those words." He looked at me with pure contempt in his eyes. "Too bad. I thought I succeeded in killing you."
"Sorry to disappoint you. I escaped the Angel of Death because of you." Preparing myself for another fight, I asked, "Do you want me to complete what we had not finished?"
My body was not fit to fight right now, but I could die trying.
"I came here to talk. Like I said."
Talk? As if that would make me forget the things he did to me.
'Kill!' Sunflower said in the background. 'Kill! I will help you, River.'
'You should be.'
My fangs elongated, as well as my claws. My blood boiled, my claws aching to sink into his skin deeply.
Images of how I would eradicate him flickered in my memories until my body moved on its accord and lounged at him. Intending for his throat.
In one swift motion, Tristan dodged my attacks, but that did not stop me from striking him. Again.
Extending my claws and sharpening them, I aimed for his chest, wanting to plunge my sharp nails into it.
In one fluid motion, Tristan avoided it, but I did another attack, this one kicking his leg with all my force and hitting him successfully. He stumbled over. Fall. Hit himself on the iron bars.
Tristan cursed.
Using the opportunity, I kicked him again on his back, using all my force.
Tristan groaned in reply.
Kicked.
He looked like flattened soil on the dirty floor of the dungeon.
My heart hammered against my chest as I continued my attacks, wanting him dead.
'Kill!'
My body felt like it was on fire as my eyes focused on his heart, hoping for the last kill.
I will slay him once and for all.
Tristan covered his face using both of his hands as if his face was the most critical part of his body.
He did not even beg for my mercy. Just accepted my attacks without even returning them.
Just as I planned to finish him with one strike, he suddenly smirked and said, "Before you kill me, let me tell you that I came here on Zenith's wishes."
I froze.
'Finish him off, River. He is only delaying you. Do not believe in his lies!'
'I have to listen to him.'
'He is fabricating his words! How many times will you fall on their traps?'
I have to make sure about it.
Changing my mind about killing him, I put my claws on his throat. "What about Zenith?" I asked. The lack of food was not enough to weaken me ultimately. And it was all thanks to Sunflower for providing me the strength.
"Can you let me go?"
I pressed my claws into his throat, drawing blood. It felt like he was only toying with me.
Without even realizing it, my claws sank even more, and the man did not even protest. The metallic and rusty scent made me gag, but I tried not to show it.
"You wish. I will kill you here."
His eyes on my claws, he said, "Don't you find it weird that I can come whenever I please and to this dungeon of all places?"
"Get to the point," I said calmly. "I don't want to know about your pathetic stories."
"Zenith is giving you one last chance because you are her sister. One last chance, which I suggest you should not waste, River. Side with us. Show your sister that she is more important than your making." "I don't appreciate anyone's suggestion, especially if he attempted to kill me."
"Not anymore. I will try my luck by killing you after the Proclamation Ceremony if you do not side with us. This is the last chance of coaxing you."
I pushed him into the iron bars and turned my back to him.
"I know you will have a hard time deciding what to choose-the alpha king or your sister. But know that we will never hesitate in killing you if you choose the wrong side."
Tristan stood and cracked his neck from side to side. He stepped outside, leaving the cell open.
He pocketed the keys.
Was Zenith really behind this?
"You can go now. Five days is enough for you to be imprisoned in this disgusting place. Ah. This brings nothing but bittersweet memories. This is the place where we met, right?"
I clenched my fist and put it on my side. "And I regretted saving you."
He chuckled in reply. "Not my problem anymore. Good luck."
And I was alone.
In my anger, I kicked the metal. It rattled and protested, driving away the silence.
Damn it!
What should I do now?
The servants looked at me as I went to the alpha king's chamber. They scrunch their nose in this disgust upon inhaling the smelly air.
I knew I smelled like shit. As if I showered and swam in the dirtiest and stinkiest garbage area. But I had no time to shower and fix myself. That can wait.
Right now, the alpha king and his kingdom was more important.
Shrugging off their look of disgust, my steps did not falter until I reached the alpha king's chamber.
As usual, I saw the twins guarding the door. "Is the alpha king around?" I asked, as my breathing was labored.
"River!" they exclaimed in unison, and stopped, sniffed the air, and nearly covered their noses if not for the fact that they remembered it was I whom they were facing. "What happened to you? You looked-" "Like dead and awful. I know. No need to remind me about that. Is he inside? Alone? How about the queen?"
"We don't know. She said she would meet the Luna of the nearby pack."
"Are you sure about that? Clara. The last time I asked you, you told me a lie."
Clara nervously smiled and made a peace sign. "I vow that I am telling the truth. River. If you plan on meeting the alpha king, would it be better to take a bath? You stink. No offense."
"I know. But this will be quick. If the queen will enter, hold her for a moment, okay?"
Without waiting for their reply, I pushed the door open and saw the alpha king on the balcony, drowning in his personal thoughts.
I knocked on the wall several times, and his eyes widened when he saw me.
"Your Majesty. Can we talk?"
"River?" he whispered and sauntered towards me, using his long legs. And before I could react, he engulfed me with a hug, not minding how I reeked right now.
Caught off guard, I cleared my throat.
I felt his body tremble as his embrace tightened even more.
"Your Majesty. I did not smell good," I reminded him, while putting both of my hands on his shoulders. "But that's not what we will talk about."
As much as I wanted to savor the moment, I could not. His safety would be my top priority.
He pulled away, his face wearing the softest expression he could ever give. I wonder if he will also remain that way after saying the things that had been bogging my mind.
"What is it? But before that, let's eat first. I will ask the cook to prepare the best fish, River. Forgive me for not being with you during your imprisonment. Zenith was sick and asked me not to leave her side."
Sick?
Probably an act so that the alpha king and I would never be given a chance to talk to each other.
"I will not die from starving myself, Your Majesty. What I will say is more important than food."
He put his hands on my shoulder. "Why don't we take a seat."
"No. This will be quick. I have somewhere to go after this."
He sighed at my stubbornness.
"What is more important than getting nourishment for your body?"
"Your queen."
His brows furrowed. "What about her?"
"She wants to destroy your kingdom."
