Disagreements
River Williams
Talk about the right timing. My sister had a great way of ruining everything. It seemed like she had her ears and eyes around the palace. It was not impossible, knowing she had already planned to destroy the kingdom. The question was, who could be her spy?
"Tell the queen I am busy right now," the alpha king answered. "Tell her there are unforeseen events that need my attention. As of the moment."
It will never be that easy. Zenith wanted the alpha king's attention. Always.
To stop creating further conflicts between the two, I stepped away from the alpha king's back and looked at Beta Valentine and Delta Isagani looking at me.
It looked like they were stopping themselves from inhaling the air.
I feel sorry for the two and the inconvenience I caused. But it was not like I asked for this one.
"You should go, Your Majesty. Angering the queen will only create more problems." That's where you should belong in my sister's arms.
The alpha king faced me.
"My mind won't be at peace if I just leave you."
"Same as the queen."
His expression turned cold. "You needed me more than her."
"I can handle myself." The burning feeling seemed to subside. My body temperature was dropping. Still, I did not want to relax. The pain will continue to attack me like a bitch, and it won't stop until I do not relieve myself.
Nevertheless, I refused to be a prisoner of my own body. I will control it as long as I can.
"I will ask Dawn to lock the room herself." I stepped forward. The pack doctor went after me, but I held my hand. "You don't have to join me, Dr. Montenegro."
The pack doctor glanced at the alpha king. The latter nodded. "You can ask someone to call me if you want my help."
"The help I need is to satisfy my lust, Dr. Montenegro. I don't think you are the one capable of giving me that."
The pack doctor's mouth opened and closed. But no words came out.
Using the opportunity, I leave them, using every ounce of my strength to reach my chamber.
I found Dawn sharpening her sword in her bed and stood when she saw me.
Breathing hard, I closed the door behind us.
"Hey! How was the dinner? Did you and the alpha king kiss?"
Her question reminded me of my wolf. And speaking of Sunflower, she was strangely silent, as if she went into hiding.
"If we did, the queen would no longer imprison me but kill me instantly."
"You may be right." Dawn looked at me and noticed I was sweating. "Oh, don't you want to change your clothes? It looked like you've been exercising a lot."
I turned my back to her. "Please help me remove the dress."
"Sure. No worries."
She returned the blade to its sheath and helped me undress. I slipped into a pair of shorts and a white tank.
Dawn carefully put aside the dress on her bed.
She did not notice I was in heat. She-wolves were sometimes unaware of the other's heat. Most of the time, male wolves were the first ones to see.
"I'm in heat. And I have been controlling myself not to jump on the alpha king," I informed her.
Dawn's mouth formed an oh. "I remembered the first time I was in heat." Her cheeks flushed, and her eyes turned dreamy. Oh, Moon Goddess. I don't want to hear how they mate. "Thankfully, I had already
found my mate."
"How?"
I tried disregarding my jealousy as I imagined how her mate helped her.
"My mate was always on my side, easing my pain. A little stroke here and there. He gave me a massage. A little cuddle. Kisses everywhere. Stroking and-"
"I don't want to know how you two had sex."
Dawn chuckled.
As much as I wanted to see her smiling like that, as if she was not feeling the pain of her mate's death, I did not want to become more envious.
"Sorry. Sometimes, I just missed him so much. And only his memories keep me going. I promised I would live for him." She patted my hand. "Tell me if you want something. I will give it to you."
Then...
"Can I have this room for the whole evening? You can go back tomorrow. Please lock the door for me. Outside. So that I won't be able to go outside. That's the only way I can save myself and the alpha king."
Alpha King Maxxwell
"Stop pacing, will you? You make me sick," Zenith protested.
"Why did you call me?"
She narrowed her eyes. "I met the dressmaker along the way, and he told me you asked him to prepare the gorgeous dress for River."
That was why he did not return.
Never mind.
That was not important right now. River's condition was more significant over some clothes for the Proclamation Ceremony.
It's good to know Zenith did not know River was in heat. She would be more furious if she knew it. It's better to keep it away from her. If I could help it.
That woman always occupied my mind. If there was something, I could do for her. My feet were aching to go to her chamber, and I asked if there was something I could do for her.
I was done instructing the beta and the delta never to allow anyone near the woman's chamber. I already posted guards around the perimeter to make sure.
"Zenith. Stop throwing a tantrum, will you?"
"Tantrums? I am not! I could not understand how you asked him to create a dress more beautiful than mine."
"Oh, you are throwing tantrums. I did not know you could be childish sometimes!"
Her eyes watered. "Now, you are raising your voice at me. You never do that, Your Majesty."
I groaned and inhaled a couple of times.
This woman was testing my patience and control.
"It is also a tradition in my kingdom to shower my concubine with gifts. That's the gift I want to give to her 'cause not once did I have given her anything. I do hope you can understand that."
Zenith flapped her hands in the air.
"Concubine? For what? You promised not to have any concubine before!"
"The Council and the Elders pressed for it," I answered. Well, they give me the option not to. River did not also want to become one. Still, I needed an alibi. And that was one of the best explanations I could find. "They know they are powerful and have authority even if I am the alpha king."
"You also have the right to decline and impose your authority over them. Be honest with me. You want her. You want that bitch?"
"The Council and Elders were created to keep the alpha king in check, Zenith, after what the previous alpha king did to his people. And don't ever call her a bitch. Denaro does not like it."
"Why? Is it really your wolf or you?" I sighed and strolled towards the balcony. Zenith was draining my energy.
She was already beside me. "Why are you not answering my questions, Maxxwell? Do you love that woman or not?"
"I love you more, Zenith," I answered calmly.
She pointed to herself. "You love me more? Which means you also love that bitch." Hurt registered on her face. "You promised you would only love me, Maxxwell. You promised!"
"It wasn't my fault," I shot back. "You were gone. You did not give any clues about whether you were alive or not. I did look for you, Zenith. I was devastated when I found out you were murdered. And then she
came. Everything about her reminded me of you."
"That's the point, Maxxwell!" she screamed.
One passing guard looked up when he heard Zenith's scream, and when he realized it was her, he hastily went in the opposite direction.
"She reminded her of me. So why did you let your heart be swayed, huh? Why? Damn it!" In her anger, she kicked the railings and muttered an endless curse.
"Are you really my beloved Zenith? You changed a lot."
She stilled and faced me. Her eyes watered as her hands trembled and clenched into a fist. "If I changed, was it enough to love someone else? That you cheated on me?"
I looked in the other direction.
"I already asked for forgiveness, Zenith. I came clean with you. I thought we were done with that. Why do you keep bringing up my mistakes?"
"We will never be, Your Majesty. If that bitch stays in the palace, we will continue fighting over her."
"River did nothing wrong."
"Her mere existence in this palace is wrong enough! My blood boils in anger whenever I see her. Do you know what is running through my mind when I see her face? I want to kill her."
My head shoots up. "Harm her, and we will become enemies."
She stared at me in disbelief and put a distance between us. "You love her. Who is the witch that helped her put a spell on you?"
"No spells were made, and River did not have any encounters with witches. She never stepped out of this palace. It's her personality which draws me close to her. She pulverized the impenetrable wall I had built
because of your death. She brought light to my dark world."
Zenith's face flushed red.
"Did she know about this? Your feelings?"
"I never confessed anything to her. I still honor my promise to you. And if you keep on making her life even more miserable, I will reconsider if I will do the Proclamation Ceremony or not. Don't think you are
the only one capable of blackmailing me, Zenith. You did it once. What made you think I will not do it to you?"
