Alpha King Maxxwell
Zenith turned her back to me. "Do you have any plans of telling her, Maxxwell?" she whispered, stuffing a sob, which felt like a punch in my gut.
I closed my eyes.
This was not what I promised her when I told her I would love her for the rest of my life. Not to hurt her.
What was happening to me? Why was I confused now?
"I am asking you, Maxxwell. Why does it take you a lot of time to answer?"
"I-I...will not tell her."
She smiled sadly. My chest constricted. "Because of the promise?"
"Yes. Because of the promise," I confirmed.
"You were chained to your promise, and if you weren't, would you choose her over me?"
Would I? Would I not?
River...always confused me.
I looked at the sky and said, "I don't know, Zenith. I don't know. I'm conflicted and don't know what to do anymore."
"I hate you," she spat. "You are hurting me."
Share
I hung my head low. "I admit it. No amount of sorry will make you forgive me."
Zenith's expression suddenly turned black.
"I don't care anymore what will happen, Maxxwell. But the Proclamation Ceremony will continue whether you fall out of love or not. The fact that I am your queen and the only be will remain forever."
And she left me alone and slammed the door shut.
I exhaled a sigh of... relief? I was no longer sure about it.
I shook my head as I realized I did not have the will to go after her.
What was happening to me?
River Williams
The most intense pain I could ever experience on this day awakened me. My hair felt sticky as it clung to the side of my face.
Using the back of my hand, I wiped the remaining sweat and exhaled a couple of times.
Outside, my hypersensitive nose smelled the male werewolves patrolling near my chamber. Was it based on the alpha king's orders?
Probably.
I slept for a few minutes, thinking I would be at peace now without suffering anymore.
I winced as I struggled to breathe in and out while my back leaned on the headboard.
What time is it?
I looked at the clock-almost eleven o'clock in the evening.
The headboard nearly crushed into my head because of my tight grip.
I bit my lower lip when another wave of pain hit me hard.
Fudge! Not again!
'Seek the alpha king!' Sunflower cried in my mind. "The pain will not stop until we are with him.'
'No! I don't want to!' I cried.
GET IT
My mouth was dry, and good thing Dawn had some spare water with her. She wouldn't be furious if she found I drank from it, right? Before rational thoughts got ahead of me, I clogged down the contents. And
I drank almost all of it.
I stopped when I felt the bitter taste of the water.
Was this really water?
Verifying, I put the mouth of the bottle on my nostrils only to realize it was not water but alcohol.
Oh, Moon Goddess
Dawn had a strange habit of putting alcohol on a water container and pretending it was indeed water she was carrying.
Not only was I in heat, but I was also drunk.
Well, everything was well. There was no time to panic. When tomorrow arrives, everything will go back to normal. All I had to do was endure everything.
Or so I thought.
It was past eleven o'clock when I realized I could no longer bear it. The effect of the alcohol hit me, with my vision getting blurry.
'Seek the alpha king,' Sunflower insisted. Again.
I hopped out of bed. 'I will,' I replied. A smirk found its way on my lips.
Perhaps it was the alcohol which made me bold. Or I could no longer stop myself.
The separation from the alpha king was too much. My body screamed for him, and t was not helping that his scent lingered on my nostrils, even if we were already separated by distance.
The need to be with him. To touch him seemed to drive me to the brink of madness.
'I have to be with him. Now!' I stressed.
Sunflower beamed. 'That's what I was talking about.'
I pushed the door open. I need to be with him. To appease these emotions, I could no longer understand.
"Open the door! Dammit!" I cursed.
I pounded on the door until my hand bled.
"Open it!" I ordered again while shouting.
"You're not allowed to go outside. Based on the alpha king's request, Miss River," a man's voice answered me.
Probably one of the guards.
"I don't care about his orders. Open the door!" I muttered again while continuing to pound. I no longer cared if I started to bleed crazy. The sight of blood no longer made me nauseous perhaps because I was in
heat or the amount of alcohol I had taken.
"I'm sorry, Miss. But I am only following orders. You will stay there until the alpha king tells us you can go."
"Fuck you!" I replied and kicked the door as much as I could.
With no plans to give up, I stopped and looked around. If no one opens the door, I will make my own path.
Leaving the doorway, I went to the window and checked.
I smiled when it was not locked.
Our chamber was on the third floor of the palace. The window was not big enough to cater to an average human size, which left me with one thing. To shift into my wolf form.
'Sun. Led the way.'
'Let's kiss the alpha king as if there was no tomorrow, shall we?' she said and giddily took over, and I was on all fours.
I landed with a thud and jumped into the window, and forced my paws to go to the alpha king's chamber.
Sensing no one was around, I jumped into the alpha king's balcony, still in my wolf form.
Sunflower was humming, if that was possible. She was making these weird noises that I did not comprehend.
She was excited. I can say for sure. Earlier, I could not feel Sunflower's presence as if she was hibernating, but now, knowing she was, we were going to the alpha king when she was alive.
I sniffed the air.
I could not smell my sister's scent, but Maxxwell was present. Double-checking the surroundings to see if there was really no one, I verified I was safe and shifted back into my human form.
The cold instantly kissed my naked skin, and I hugged myself. Just as I returned, the burning feeling as if my body was on fire resurfaced.
Sweat coated my forehead, and the alpha king's scent felt like a drug in my senses.
I inhaled his scent until it filled my lungs. Delicious. Temporarily relief.
I licked my lips as hunger ran deep into my bones, only for Maxxwell.
I wobbled. Was this because of the alcohol?
No. I must never get affected.
With heavy steps, I sauntered towards the alpha king's bedroom and stilled when I saw him lying on his bed. Alone.
Was he sleeping?
How about the queen?
'Go for it, River,' Sunflower cheered in my mind. I could feel her excitement bubbling.
Tiptoeing, I stood in front of his bed and climbed and hovered over his sleeping form.
