Yes, I was afraid. I was scared that Dawn, the beta, and the delta would judge me soon for not being courageous enough to tell the alpha king about Zenith and her betrayal. I was shaking in fear that they would treat me as their enemy. Which I was not.
Coward, another part of my mind said.
Perhaps I was.
I was not like this. But shit happened to me.
"River. We can still prepare," Dawn urged me.
I hide my shaking hands behind my back. "T-there is nothing to say."
Beta Isagani's veins popped. "You are the alpha king's mate. Does his safety don't matter to you?"
I drew a shaky breath. They continued waiting for my confession, but I could not say it. It looked like something was keeping the words imprisoned in my mouth.
I was such an embarrassment. So instead of telling them the truth, I stood and said, "I-I h-have to pee. If you will excuse me."
"River!" Dawn called my name, but I did no longer listen to her.
Clutching my chest, my strides were long without any idea where I would be going. As long it would be away from the three.
Guilt hit me like a bitch.
'When did you become a coward, River?' Sunflower said. 'After knowing the queen, you changed for the worse. Does she still matter to you? Oh, come on, River.' 2
I rubbed my hands together. 'Blood is thicker than water. I still believe she would change her mind. Until she did not carry out her plan.'
Sunflower gave me a disapproving look. 'Really? Do you still expect that the table will be turned? Are you a fool? Open your eyes, woman. The queen is set to ruin this kingdom. What kind of evidence are you looking for?'
It was already plain in my eyes, but my heart wouldn't accept it.

I was getting far away from the Great Hall, and that's the best thing for now.

Angrily I faced him. "Definitely not, Your Majesty. I don't want to anger the queen."
"You're angry. A-are you okay?"
"About what happened? Let me be honest with you. I don't, Your Majesty. I feel bad knowing I did something wrong."
Both of his hands fell on his side. "It was not your fault. It's mine. It was I who wasn't drunk nor in heat. I should have walked away."
"It's too late for that now." I turned my back, but he yanked my wrist, making me face him again. Sparks flew between us, but I paid it no mind. "Let me go." I can fight this. Fight these feelings.
His expression softened.

I did not want to see him looking at me like that.
"Something is bothering you. What is that? Is that about what happened? Look, I am sorry for putting you in this situation, River. If only I could make it better. Tell me what you want me to do."
"Do you want to know what's bothering me? Fine. It's also your right to know what is happening in your kingdom."
His brows furrowed in confusion. "Tell me directly," he growled.
I inhaled deeply and said, "Queen Zenith wanted to seize the throne and replace you and put Alpha Wade as the new alpha king."
The alpha king shook his head. His shoulders fell. "River. What is this about again? We talked about this."
"You wouldn't believe me. Again. Tell me. Is this because I am the one telling you this? Would you believe me if the others told you?"
"I hate to say this, but I don't believe the queen will do something. River. Today is the queen's proclamation ceremony. There is no way she would sabotage this ceremony. I know firsthand how she was involved
in this activity. She had numerous sleepless nights."
"She is my sister." He fell silent. "Do you believe me now?"
"I believe you are sisters, but not the queen betraying me."
My heart constricted.
I inhaled deeply.
"Forget what I said, Your Majesty. I did not mean anything."
He pulled me. "River. Is this about how she punished you and put you in the dungeon? If you are having your revenge-"
"Drop. It," I said, gritting my teeth. "I know your love for her blinds you. And what happened between us was a mistake, Your Majesty. Forget everything. Excuse me," I uttered and left him, and returned to our
table.
Everyone was dancing when I was back at the table. Some were also drinking, having the best time of their lives. Alphas conversed with each other.
I saw Dawn and Delta Isagani dancing while the mutt was nowhere to be around.
Damn.
I felt out of place. I wanted to go back to our chamber.
I shook my head. I came here to witness the Proclamation Ceremony. Not to wallow in my pain.
How could I stay still here knowing my sister was planning something?
I had to stop her. If I die stopping her, at least I have done something.
'River. You could be pregnant. Stay away from danger. You must never put the future heir in danger.'
A shiver ran down my spine.
'Stop saying nonsense things, Sun.'
Sunflower groaned. 'Ugh. Stubborn, as always. What I am saying could be true. The wolves are sensitive to the changes in your body. We can detect if someone is already living inside of you.'
I refuse to admit that it might happen. 'Mating only once would not guarantee success. Let's stop this kind of conversation, okay? You're giving me goosebumps.'
Sunflower slapped her forehead using her paws. 'Go. Do whatever you want. You do not listen to me anyway.'
'Stop being a whining bitch, okay? Help me find the queen.'
She was nowhere in sight, and it was only the alpha king meeting the other alphas. Where were Alpha Erik and Alpha Wade? Why couldn't I fucking see them?
My heartbeat was beating wildly against my chest.
Were they starting to move?
Was it better if I told them the queen was planning something?
I bit my lower lip as I sauntered to the hallway, checking for the queen's presence.
Sister? Where are you?
It has already been nearly two months since she came here. And during those few months, she gathered numerous allies, which I could not fathom. During those months, we rarely talk. Heartily.
I turned left, going to their chamber. I had to talk to her one last time before everything was over.
"Looking for me, my dear sister?" I whipped my head and came face to face with the queen. Looking at me, she raised her eyebrows. "Did you hear and watch the ceremony earlier? I was magnificent, right? And those fools believe everything I say. The next thing they know, the drinks they drank were coated with poison."
My heart skipped a bit. The thought of the possibility of endangering my unborn child came into my mind. What if I carried the future ruler of the kingdom of Vernice?
Secretly, my hands were already on my tummy as if protecting my baby.
Oh, Moon Goddess. Forgive me for constantly rejecting the idea of me being pregnant, I muttered in my mind.

My eyes popped open, and I stepped back.
Dawn put her hands on her hips. "Aren't you happy? Finally, you are able to gain his love just like what you were planning back then. You seduced him all over and managed to mate him."
My heart beat faster. "You know?"
"The twins are my ears and eyes."
My eyes squinted. "What?"
