                    Gloomy Future
Did I regret rejecting the alpha king? Others will do. But for me? No. Definitely not. Instead, despite the pain of the serving of our ties, I felt...good. He may act casually as if he does not care, but the effect of rejection has already started.
Suffering. He will experience deep agonizing pain just like what I experienced before. This was comparable to losing his mate because of death.
This was my way of avenging my sister-punishing the alpha king.
Sunflower howled in the background. She did not like the turn of events. She was more affected than me.
'It's okay, Sun. It's okay. He deserved it.'
She looked at me with bloodshot eyes. 'My feelings did not matter to you. I hate you. I will never talk to you. Ever,' she said and suddenly was gone.
My mind suddenly felt empty. And for a moment, I regretted my actions. What if Sunflower will also leaves me?
'Sun?'
No response.
My heart hammered against my chest. 'Sun?'
My breathing labored.
"River!" Dawn berated. "What have you done?" she added in disbelief. "Rejection? Really? Why did it have to be like that?"
"No. You ask His Majesty what he did," I retorted, calm, even if I no longer understood what was happening to me.
Dawn paced back and forth, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh, my goddess. This is more fucked up. The alpha king will surely throw you to Master Henderson. You don't know how he made my life a living hell." Dawn pulled out her hair in frustration and glared at the beta when he advanced toward us. "He broke me. He abused me. He is an asshole and a devil. I don't want you to suffer just like what I suffered."
I did not care anymore. I'm tired.
"Let him be. I no longer cared what happened to me."
She stopped. Deep worry coated her eyes. "River. You might be carrying a child!"
I stared at the alpha king's back. "It won't happen," I said with confidence.
And if I ever did, Maxxwell will never know about it. He did not deserve to see our child. My child. I will raise her alone, away from this place.
"Escort the woman to the auction house," Maxwell ordered and left us.
"Mutt. Don't ever dare," Dawn said. She pulled out her sword and prepared herself for the beast to attack. "No one will take her away."
As Dawn continued fighting for me, my eyes teared again as reality dawned on me. I will become a slave again and suffer at the hands of another master. However, if the safety of my unborn child is compromised, I will kill anyone who dares to harm us.
"What's the meaning of this?" Delta Isagani's gruff voice resounded. The sound of his boots clicked as he closed the distance between us and went to Dawn's side. "Beta Valentine, why do you seem to attack River?"
The man was absent when the alpha king was here.
The delta's eyes shifted to the surroundings and paled when he saw my sister's lifeless body.
"The alpha king's orders. He wanted me to bring River to the auction house," the beta whispered.
"Which I won't allow. Over my dead body," Dawn retorted. "We can have another slaying here, mutt. But you will never take her away from me. River will not be sold. She is the queen of the kingdom now that Zenith is gone."
Beta Valentine stared at Dawn. Hard. He glared at her while a vein popped on his neck. "Do not talk lightly about death."
The Delta frowned.
In all honesty, I felt weak. I was exhausted from crying. I was weary of everything. I want this to be over, and if someone ever kills me, he will do me a favor.
"Leech. I am only following the alpha king's order."
"An order which you can follow or not. Do not be blinded by everything just because you are faithful to the alpha king. River did not take part in her sister's plan!"
"Beta..." the delta started. "River would never take part in the revolt," he defended.
"Asshole," the beta declared, referring to the delta. "You swore your allegiance to the alpha king. Not to those two. Why are you letting your emotions get over you? Emotions will only make you weak."
Delta Isagani's eyes turned into slits. "What the fuck are you talking about? I am doing what is right."
I never saw the delta fighting against the beta. The former was always saying yes to the latter's orders. But now. Was Delta Isagani doing it for me? But why?
The beta put down his sword. At least it was no longer pointing to me.
"You like that leech. That's why you are defending them. Do you see how disgusting you look when you look at her? You look like a love-sick puppy. You make the hair of my arms stand."
Delta Isagani fell silent while Dawn looked at the delta.
Coming to the delta's rescue, Dawn answered, "Who cares if Delta Isagani will look at me like that? Only a jealous mutt would take it negatively."
"What? You!"
Beta Valentine tried to approach her, but I pulled Dawn aside. "Where is the carriage, Beta Valentine? Your pointless arguments make me bored."
Everyone stopped and looked at me.
Beta Valentine gave me a pitiful look that I did not appreciate. I loathed it.
"Stop giving me that expression-all of you. I am fine. In fact, I am happy knowing I will be out of these forsaken feelings."
"But River..."
"I appreciate you and the delta defending me. But it was also my fault for being a coward and not telling the alpha king earlier. Nevertheless, the queen was dead. The alpha king is happy. The rogues were wiped
out. Please, do not add another guilt on my part when the beta will not hesitate to hurt the two of you. I do not want to add more blood to my hands."
"River. We can fix this."
I gave Dawn a sad expression. "Nothing can be fixed now. Everything is beyond repair. Maxxwell no longer trusts me. I rejected him. He did not have anything to do with me. And that's how my life became even more fucked up."
Beta Valentine grabbed my hands. "No hard feelings."
"Mutt-"
"Dawn. Can I ask you something?"
She looked at me. "What is that?"
"Please give the queen a proper burial in my absence. I did not know if we would see each other again. Or if I could step into this place. But please...I never knew my parents. I did not see them personally, but I met another relative. So...please?" My voice cracked in the middle.
Dawn nodded, understanding what I was trying to say despite the heaviness of my chest.
Delta Isagnai looked away.
Both of Dawn's hands fell to the side.
"Is this.....goodbye?"
I smiled. Forced. "No. We will meet each other." I hope so. I didn't even know if I would be alive by that time.
"When?"
"When my new master permits it."
"I will be there at the auction house. I will gather any amount to buy you."
"You don't have anything. But I appreciate the gesture."
To her frustrations, Dawn kicked Beta Valentine's leg. The woman glared at him when he attempted to react.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, it is funny how the woman could easily overpower the beta. The two stories were interesting. I just hoped the Moon Goddess would not have sickening stories for the two
like how she made mine.
"I will do my best to save you."
I shook my head. "I don't want to. I have no place to go now." I stepped away and went to Beta Valentine's side. "Let's go."
