Do We Know Each Other?
"Everyone! Behold! Queen River Williams, Her Grace!"
The crowd went dead silent. The flickering lights around me were blinding, making me squint.
The man's voice kept on ringing in my mind.
Queen.
I knew it was only a sales talk so that I would be sold for the highest bid.
Such a disgrace to my sister's loving memory. She will only be the queen. No one else. Not me.
I backed down and looked at the back, but instead of seeing Dion, was back to the original.
"Everyone, River is also the second-chance mate of the alpha king. Yes. You heard it right. Not only did he have one mate. But two!"
The host chuckled.
"He sure is favored by the Moon Goddess."
I let my eyes roam around. The majority of the crowd was composed of men giving me curious gazes.
I tried to sniff the air. Werewolves and I smelt the foul stench of the blood-sucking vampires. Looking them in the eyes was enough to make my skin crawl.
I hugged myself as their stares penetrated the clothes I was wearing. It was as if they were stripping me naked even if I was fully clothed. I feel so exposed.
"Amazing. Maybe you are wondering how the hell the queen was able to come here?"
The crowd leaned closer to the auction host, grabbing their attention.
I was not here so that someone would pry at my private life.
The host sauntered towards me, but I maintained my composure, not showing my fear. They will sniff it. They will make me a laughing stock or worse? They could torture me because of that.
The host brushed his disgusting hands on my cheeks which I slapped away.
"Whoa. Feisty."
The crowd wowed.
"Touch me with those filthy hands, and I will cut it."
He lifted his brows. "You're not being brave right now. You are acting foolish. You think you can harm me," he whispered to him, and I only listened.
"Fuck you and your sick participation in this unforgivable sin."
The host snapped his fingers and snapped at me. "Money is the most powerful of all."
To the crowd, he said, "Isn't she beautiful? A little makeup will do, and the blood from the queen is the sweetest of all. You will enjoy your drinks."
The hair on my neck stood. Fuck.
"Too bad. No one would save you, Your Grace. Will your knight-in-shining-armor come here and protect you?"
Maxxwell? Protect me? This was not protection at all. Putting me into this place was the cruelest.
"The alpha king won't. He and I no longer have any connections. And all of you!" I shouted while I watched the crowd. "Don't have your hopes high. The alpha king will not come here. If you plan to use me to exact your revenge, I hate to break it to you, but I am not the right tool."
The host snapped his fingers.
"My dear ladies and gentlemen. Her Grace was believed to be a traitor by the alpha king."
My eyes narrowed.
How did this bastard know about that? I kept leaving some essential details, especially if it involved the kingdom.
The host chuckled and faced the crowd. "My, my. Our queen was surprised. I know what happened."
"How?" I muttered while balling my fist.
The man gave me a big smile that did not reach his eyes. "Connections. Spy. Influence," he answered me. He faced the crowd again. "Forgive me for making you wait. The auction will start now, starting with
five bags of gold."
Five bags of gold? It was estimated to be a hundred pieces of gold each.
There was already a lot to be bought for that amount! Was that my value in their eyes?
"Ten bags of gold for Her Grace!"
My mouth went wide.
Ten bags? Were my ears fooling me?
One man answered from the crowd. "Fifteen bags of gold! "
"Twenty bags of gold!"
"Forty bags of gold!"
And the bidding continued until I could no longer understand what they were saying.
My heart beat wildly against my ribcage, not understanding how they could spend that much over someone like me. If only they knew I was only a slave once, who offered the alpha king my service in exchange for marking me to prove to Alpha Erik that someone also wanted me.
"Going once. Twice. Thrice. Sold!"
I blinked a couple of items upon hearing the word sold.
I craned my neck and looked for the buyer. Looking for him was easy since he was the center of attention now. Added to that was his white hair that reached his shoulder that silky rich hair that made any woman want to run her fingers on the strands.
A lazy smirk grazed over his mouth when our eyes met.
He looked rich. Powerful. And above all, sexy. Despite his physical attributes, he failed to make my heart jump and fill with longing, unlike how the alpha king made me feel whenever he was with me.
I shook my head.
The life with him was already a close chapter of my life.
The man who bought how many bags? Forty bags?
"The item is sold for two hundred bags of gold. A round of applause for the alpha of Riverside Pack."
My eyes bulged.
Two hundred? How rich was this bastard? Besides, I had never heard of Riverside Pack. Only now.
"You can come here to get your item, Alpha."
An alpha would be better than having a vampire master.
"Why would I? Let the slave come here," was his reply.
Another arrogant bastard who thought he could wrap anyone around his palm.
Forcefully, the host pushed me into the alpha's seat, making me nearly fall on the stairs. The crowd chuckled, even if I was not making them laugh.
"Go to your new master, Your Grace," he mocked.
Glaring at him, my eyes shifted back to the white-haired alpha. His eyebrows raised as he waited for me to join him.
The host's voice in the background gave his thanks to everyone who supported the auction. Along the way, I saw the other women who were with me in the waiting room, their eyes pleading with me to save
them as their new master was beside them.
The majority of their masters were bloodsuckers.
Biting down my tears for them, I walked towards the alpha of Riverside and stopped in front of him.
"You are the alpha king's mate," he mumbled to himself. "I am only enjoying myself. I did not know I would hit the jackpot."
There was no sense of familiarity on his face. His hair alone would always be eye-catchy. There was no way I would forget his face.
So why did he buy me?
"Do we know each other?"
