"A ghost, you say?" Alpha Raphael asked. "Ghosts do not exist."
They may not, but a child with me? Ridiculous.
"Yes. As you said earlier, you saw a child which I didn't even see." I looked around in an attempt to see what he was trying to see.
The auction house does not even have children.
Alpha Raphael's eyes darted at my stomach.
Scowling, I asked, "What are you implying? That I am pregnant? Impossible." I chuckled. "If it is true, I can feel it." I would know. Right? This was the body we were talking about.
"Is it really impossible for you to be expecting? Werewolves get pregnant faster than humans. Especially if the act happened during the heat cycle of the woman."
A child with the alpha king?
The idea bothered me to the highest level. A slave with a child would be worse. The child may be given for adoption or be killed or sold in the auction house. The three were out of the equation. I will keep my child with me if what they said is true.
However...the idea was unsettling.
I chortled, not wanting to consider what he said.
"I do not want to ponder that absurd thing."
"You can use the child to get back to the throne," he suggested. "You can use the child for your freedom."
I scoffed and looked at the birds fishing out in the ocean.
"Do I look like I want the throne?" That was before. But now, it no longer appeals to me. And if ever I was pregnant with the alpha king's child, and I would not use her to my advantage. "I don't want the weight
it carried."
I will hide her from the alpha king's enemies and the alpha king himself.
Alpha Raphael lifted his brows. "What a noble thought."
I returned my gaze to the alpha. "What will happen to me if I am pregnant?" I did not want to go back to the palace, and if ever I had to go back, it would only be because of my sister. To see her burial site.
Nothing else.
"I will return you to the alpha king."
My hands clenched. "You cannot do that. I am now yours."
"Technically, all the things I have belong to the alpha king, and I swore my loyalty to him."
Shit.
I stumbled upon another Beta Valentine.
No.
I looked around as my heart hammered against my chest. Escape ran through my mind a couple of times.
"Escaping will not also help you," the alpha reminded me. "Your frantic eyes told me I may be right about my assumptions of you being pregnant."
"I'm not pregnant," I insisted.
"Why do you want to escape?"
I bit my lower lip and looked away. "I don't want to go back."
Alpha Raphael put one of his leg over the other.
"Tell me what happened to your sister. My informant inside the palace only told me a little, which I did not like one bit. I want all the necessary details you can give. You were there during the chaos."
I wished I had been there to witness everything, but I fainted. No. It was Zenith's plan.
"I was asleep back in my room. I did not want to join the celebration so locking myself in the room was the best thing to do. The next thing I knew, the rogue infiltrated the Great Hall. There was a fight. They ripped each other's throat." It was a lie, but I shuddered at the thought. "But the alpha king's forces were strong, and after fighting, he regained control. That's all I knew, Master Raphael," I lied.
"Are you telling the truth?"
Without batting an eye, I replied, "Why would I lie to someone who saved me from Master Henderson's clutches?" I looked him in the eye. "I am being truthful, Master Raphael."
"Are you sure?"
"Why won't I be?"
"Be thankful I am not the other's out there. But next time, I won't be tolerating your lies, River."
My heart jumped at his statement.
He caught me? Could he read my mind?
The rest of the journey went uneventful like that. Despite the lack of security, no rouges attempted to intercept the carriage. The only thing chaotic at that time was my mind.
Alpha Raphael was sleeping the entire time, not even caring if I would try to hurt him or not. He was unbothered. Even the times when the carriage hit a big rock and nearly toppled over did not stop him from
having a sleep.
I scoffed.
How could he trust me this much to the point of lowering his guard? Only a fool would do that.
Perhaps it was because I had a connection with the alpha king before.
I was on that thought when the carriage came to a complete stop and followed by the driver's voice saying we had already arrived.
Did we?
No slave would be excited to know that, but perhaps it was because I awakened being a slave since I was young that I no longer bothered at all by the new surroundings.
I had to adjust again. I wondered if my life would become slightly better compared to Haverstone Pack.
The alpha was still asleep, and I hesitated whether to wake him up. It seemed he was tired from the journey.
A few strands of his white hair fell.
Beautiful.
I wanted to touch them.
Too bad his personality did not match his face.
In the end, I called his name. "Master Raphael. We are here," I announced.
He stirred in his sleep.
"Master Raphael," I called again.
He popped one eye. Eyes unfocused. It blinked a couple of times until he realized it was me, his new servant.
"We are here."
"We did?"
I nodded. "May I give you a piece of advice?"
He stretched his arms and yawned. "What?"
"Even if you are the best fighter in the whole world, do not ever lower your guard, especially around potential enemies. You don't know me. Don't know if I could be trusted or not."
"A real enemy would never say that," he answered and stepped outside. "Join me so they know why I was gone for almost a week."
A week?
I did not think it was because of spending his wealth outside his pack, right?
Well, there was one way to find it.
I pulled myself together, breathed a couple of times, and followed after the alpha.
Flowers. Unending flowers. Then beautiful white-haired men hovering around the alpha and me. Their attention suddenly turned to me when they spotted me.
One man's eyes nearly fell out of his socket. "Alpha! What is a woman doing here?"
Glancing over his shoulders, Alpha Raphael watched me. "I bought her. You should be familiar with her. She is the queen of the kingdom of Vernice. The mate of the alpha king."
The men around the alpha cursed loudly.
"What kind of curse did you bring again, alpha? Isn't it enough that no one woman could stay in our pack for more than a year?"
Alpha Raphael kept on glancing at me.
Wait. Wait. Wait. I no longer understand what they are talking about. And speaking of women, why did I not see females except me?
Riverside Pack.
No matter how much I forced myself to recall any information about the pack, I failed. And the alpha king knew about their existence?
"That woman will die if you allow him here," the man added.
Alpha Raphael was unbothered.
"She is already my slave. Regardless of what happened to her, no longer concerned all of you."
"Alpha Raphael! That woman will die if she continues staying here! Why can't you comprehend that? I do not want to take part in an innocent's death!"
