"Father! She is my slave! If I returned the woman to the alpha king, what would become of the money I spent? It would make me feel like I wasted all of them."
"We can more easily replace the money than lose our people. Remember that."
Not wanting to back down, Alpha Raphael squeezed his eyes shut and opened them again with the same determination.
"Father. I will not return her."
Unfortunately, I had to side with Alpha Raphael.
I made my expression the saddest and gathered my tears together. They did not fail me because, after a couple of minutes, I could muster them.
To make it more realistic, I sniffed and whispered, "Y-Yes, Sir. Please don't bring me back to the palace. I beg of you. I will be on my best behavior in your pack and pretend to be deaf and mute. I will not ask why you have that kind of hair color or why the women are not here."
Alpha Raphael scratched his forehead while listening to me, but he never interjected.
The older man shook his head. "You don't understand what you are talking about, Your Grace. You will die by staying here."
"Sir, please explain why you think I will die here. If you won't, I don't have any reason to go."
The older man looked resigned.
"If the alpha King's enemies know you are hiding here, they will come at you, and they will do anything to have you. We cannot allow our safety to be compromised. We need to bring you back."
I shook my head a couple of times. "Only I have the right to say whether I allow it or not."
"Your Grace!"
"I am not the queen. So you can call me by my given name," I instructed. "I would rather kill myself than return. If you insist on doing that, you can bring my dead body," I promised.
Alpha Raphael clapped his hands.
"Father. She asked for it. She preferred to suffer as a slave than go back. We cannot force the woman."
"That's Her Grace for you, bastard. Not a woman. Show some respect!" the old man snapped.
"She said it earlier. She is not the queen."
"Enough! Stop saying nonsense, or I will kick you."
"I am your child, Father. I am the alpha!"
"Exactly, but you are not ready for the obligation. I should have listened to the Elders. You are not yet ready to carry the burden of being alpha."
The older man grabbed the cup of coffee on his side and drank the contents. His hands trembled as he clogged down the contents of the cup before he set it aside.
Wiping the smudge from his mouth, he inquired, "What about your child?"
If they had continued pushing it through that I was pregnant, I might have believed it then.
If believing that I am pregnant will help me, I added, "I will keep her without the alpha king knowing it."
Alpha Raphael stepped forward. "See? You heard her, Father. Let's not force her to go back. I want to have a return on investment on the gold I spent for her."
The old man opened but closed his mouth. Then, both of his hands fell to the side. "I do not know what to do with you anymore. Can you at least be responsible and act mature?"
Alpha Raphael grinned. "Let the fates do some actions." He patted his father. "Let me rest."
"Don't you ever touch her, son? If you do that, we will be the ones to fight. She is off-limits."
Alpha Raphael only smirked in reply and went to his room which I followed.
The Alpha's room was spacious. And on his wall was a painting of a woman covering her face while playfully fluttering her eyelashes. She was beautiful with her white hair. Was she their descendant?
Alpha Raphael jumped on his bed.
"So what's the deal with the white hairs? It seems everyone has the same color. I don't believe you dyed them. It looked natural to me."
"You ask the Moon Goddess why they gave us this. Because of this hair, I hated the color white. It always makes us stand among the crowd." "You don't need to become an asshole for that, Master Raphael," I said, emphasizing the word Master. "I am only asking a simple question."
"Did the alpha king tell you your unending questions are irritating? It's not cute."
"Is it my fault why my mouth could not remain silent?" Grabbing the vacant chair, I sat on it while glaring at the alpha. "What will I do now? You said you wanted to take a bath. Give your orders, and let me get
over it."
"Are you forgetting the fact that you are now my slave and no longer the alpha king's mate?"
I stilled and balled my fist.
Could I slap him again once more?
"Why would I? I may be illiterate, but never forgetful."
He sat from his bed. "Illiterate? You don't know how to read and write?"
Lifting my chin, I said, "Yes. Is that an issue right now?"
"Did the alpha king know?"
I stood and went to the nearest window, opened it, and inhaled fresh air. "Does that make me less of a human if I am illiterate?"
The alpha swung his leg forward. "No. It isn't. It does not define you. Prepare me for a bath. Did you not hear what I said earlier?"

The frequent visits of Dawn, the delta, and the beta suddenly stopped as if nothing had happened. And it had only been a few days when the traitor was brought to the auction house without any idea of what had
happened to her.
Asking the beta and delta was out of the equation. I never wanted them to misunderstand the situation.
The scolding and demands stopped. I must admit that became an early routine.
"Your Highness?"
The twins' voices brought me back to reality. Oh, right. I read some papers about the neighboring kingdom wanting to trade with us-another source of profit.
"What is it?"
"The luna. R-River's friend refused to eat for a couple of days already. If that continues, Your Majesty, we are afraid she will get sick. R-River will be heartbroken."
"Let her be. She is old enough to know that."
The twins looked at each other. They hesitated. Clara pushed her sister as if they were arguing about who would tell me what they wanted to know. "There's another problem, Your Highness."
"What?"
"The delta is with her side and refuses to eat if the luna won't. If this continues...." Clara trailed off.
"Are they mates?"
The twins shook their heads profusely. "We don't think they are, Your Highness. But the delta has a strong sense of attachment to the luna."
"What about the beta?"
"He has not been in his room, and we never saw him these past few days, Your Highness. We don't know what is happening to the three of them."
I stood.
I had an idea of what was happening to them. It was because of River.
"Your Highness. May we ask where you will go?"
"To the three rooms. I don't like that they are throwing tantrums."
I stepped out of the chamber and went to the delta and the woman. A single knock was all it took, and the door opened.
Isagani was taken aback at my presence. His cheeks were getting shallow. He had dark circles around his eyes. Watching his side, there was the luna with a sorrowful expression on her face. She looked like death had visited her.
"Did you come here to check if we are still alive or not, Your Highness?" the woman asked. Her words were sharp as a sword and reminded me of the woman. River.
Leaning on the doorway, I answered, "I'll go back since I verified the two of you are still breathing."
I was on the brink of turning back when the woman said, "Are you happy now? Are you jumping with joy knowing you perfectly eradicated River out of this palace?"
"Watch your mouth."
"Dawn," Isagani scolded.
The woman stomped her foot and, with hurried steps, sauntered toward me.
"Don't stop me again, Isagani!"
"Dawn. He is the alpha king."
"Bullshit! Do you think that will appease my mind? Isagani..." Her eyes suddenly showed. The delta gulped after seeing the pain in the woman's eyes. "I'm scared for River! She is out there with an asshole whom
we did not even know if she will be treated right or wrong!"
"We are done with this talk."
"She may be pregnant! River may be carrying your child, and you still did not care what happened to her? Congratulations, Your Highness. You're the biggest asshole I met in my entire life."
Pregnant?
A muscle ticked. "Don't say those things if it will make me guilty."
"I am ninety-nine percent sure that she is pregnant right now."
It felt as if my whole world crumbled.
