Alpha King Maxxwell
The door opened, and I was face to face with another bastard. The vampire king. Arrogant. Asshole. Jerk. Fucker. Name it. He was the epitome of the true definition of what a devil looked like.
His fangs elongated at the sniff of the blood coming from Henderson. Licking his lips, he besmirched, "Too bad. I don't like poisonous blood from assholes like him." He smirked at me, faking a surprised look." Your Highness. Maxxwell. Fancy meeting you here. The last time we saw each other was a decade ago."
"That time, we nearly killed each other, King Perseus."
Perseus meant Destroyer.
He chuckled. "Right. Right. Over some slave." He smiled at the memories. "Maxxwell, the protector of the slaves. You always have a soft spot for them, don't you? Even your mates are slaves. Not princesses. Not queens. Just slave," Perseus continued.
My mother was a slave, and my Father accepted her without hesitation. If he could accept Mother like that, what was my reason not to do the same to my mates? But this small-minded bastard will never
understand my reasons.
"Is there something wrong with that?"
"Maxxwell. Slaves should be treated as dirt. Food. They are at the bottom of the food chain. That is why I don't understand your affection towards them."
Asshole.
"I don't need your opinion on how I should treat my people, Perseus."
The vampire king's eyes glinted. "You still haven't changed. A bit."
"And you are still the same asshole I meet. I should have come when the sun was still up. Seeing you here is not fancy, King Perseus." Some thing fell on the ground, and our eyes went to the slave at the corner,
backing away.
"Food."
"She is off-limits. But Henderson's blood is for you to feast. Drank him with all you want. He does not deserve to breathe."
He attempted to gag. "I don't like poison." Perseus's eyes danced with mischief. "I like fresh blood. Full of vitamins like that woman there."
I blocked her from his view. "Why did you come here? You leave if you don't have any more concerns."
Perseus folded his arms in front of his chest. "Acting like you are the owner."
"I owned the master of this auction house. Technically, I owned this place."
"Why are you here? The auction house is big enough for our path not to cross," I snarled.
He shrugged his shoulders and pushed the door fully open.
Dawn gave me a worried look. The delta was on standby for any possible fights.
"Easy, King Maxxwell. I came not to fight. I want to talk to the man on the floor. But it seemed he had to take care of his wounds first. Did you beat him to a pulp?"
"I will do the same to you."
Perseus sauntered towards the bastard's chair. "Relax. This is comfortable. Now. Why are you here, Maxxwell? Did you perhaps know I would be here?"
The corner of my mouth curled. "I don't have time for you. Isagani."
"Yes, Your Highness."
"Do you perhaps look for your queen?"
My heart skipped a beat, and the bastard caught it.
"You are looking for her," he confirmed.
"Do you have the queen?" I asked suddenly. "I think you were there at the last auction."
The vampire king scratched his brows. "The queen? I heard the news that she was dead. Why are you looking for the dead here? You should go to the Underworld_"
I saw red.
In one snap, I lunged at him. Caught off-guard, Perseus's eyes widened. Snarling and using all my strength, I pressed my hands on his throat, cutting off his air source.
"Where. Did. You. Hear. That?"
My body shook in a fury.
Kill! Kill! Kill! my mind shouted.
I cut off his air supply even more. The fastest kill would be a stab in his heart. But I did not want him to die quickly. He will suffer until he begs for his useless life.
Perseus thrashed.
I slammed his body on the wall, seeing a crack on the impact.
"Die, bastard!"
Kill! Kill! Kill!
My heart was racing violently. My body was on fire. The air crackled.
I saw Dawn's panicked eyes.
"Y-you b-bastard!"
I slammed his body once more.
The next thing I knew, the delta and Dawn were already shouting at me. But no words registered in my mind. My body was out for blood-the blood of this worthless bastard.
"Your Highness! Let go of him! You are declaring war!"
War.
"So be it."
The delta did not stop and tried his best to free my hold on the vampire king's throat. He was paler than earlier, gasping for breath.
I smiled wickedly.
His unbeaten heart was not even pumping blood. Mind as well kill him.
"Your Highness!"
My hands suddenly released the vampire king as the two successfully broke us apart.
Breathing hard, the delta's hands were both on me.
I yanked his hand, but the more he held me tighter.
"Let. Me. Go. I will kill him."
Kill! Kill! Kill!
The vampire king coughed a couple of times.
Dawn was in front of me. Talking. But the only thing I saw was her mouth opening and closing while looking frantically at the vampire king.
"What has gotten over you, Your Highness? We came here for River! We are not fighting against the vampires," she whined.
River.
The name had the power to knock some sense into me.
"Inhale. Exhale. Breathe deeply, Your Highness," Isagani instructed. "That's right. You have to control yourself."
"I'm okay."
"Fuck you!"
The vampire king lunged, but the delta was in front of me, protecting me from his attacks. But before his attacks landed, the delta announced, "We do not want war, King Perseus!"
"Your bastard king started it. Does he want to kill me?"
He touched his throat.
Bruises around his neck, my mark resurfaced. Good.
"My apologies. But I am sure it was not his intention. Right, Your Highness?"
"He started it," I growled. "He deserved it."
"Let's end this once and for all," the vampire king responded.
"Step aside, Isagani. The bastard asked for it."
"Your Highness, what's the point of coming here if we will not look for the queen?"
"The queen? You are looking for the dead queen?"
"She is not yet dead!" Dawn snarled. "Take back what you said, leech!"
Unbothered by the woman's outburst, the vampire king's eyes squinted. "I know you. The luna of an annihilated pack. The previous alpha king wiped out your pack." Perseus' eyes danced. "I see. You became the
slave of your pack's murderer. Your people will be displeased if they are alive right now."
Dawn still. "Shut up!"
Isagani's hands shook.
Now, it was their turn to be furious at the vampire king.
"The truth hurts like a bitch." Perseus turned his back to us. "Consider this your lucky day, Maxxwell. I promised someone I would not make a fight. I don't have time to play games with you. The next time you
try to attack me, consider it a war against our kind." He went to the door. But stopped and faced us again. "Oh, by the way. I hope you will not find what you are looking for. Goodbye."
"Fuck you!" Dawn cursed and then burst into tears. In an instant, Isagani was on her side, consoling her.
"Crying will not help us."
"Then what will help us, Your Highness?" she asked between tears. "I don't know how we will find River. What if...what if...."
"Shhh. It will not happen. She's a strong woman."
"Let's start looking again, and if it is necessary that I look to the Underworld to search for River, I will do it. We will bring her back to the palace. I promise you that."
River Williams
One month later...
The little guy inside me was growing. I felt her tiny beats in my tummy as the weeks went by.
It turned out the Riverside pack was right. I was pregnant. According to them, I was giving off some kind of smell and aura that was not normal to an unpregnant she-wolf. I did not understand what they were
saying, but one thing was for sure, I would protect this little one for all of my life. She will not suffer the same faith as me.
"I'm bored. I want to travel again, woman," Alpha Raphael said all of a sudden. "Do you know someplace which is pleasing to my eyes? Somewhere where I will have some fun?"
It was undeniable that he was a traveler. And as an alpha, he needed to balance work and pleasure. His Father was always stressed by his carefree attitude, not minding what the pack would be after he was gone.
"The only thing I know is hell. Wanna go visit there, Master Raphael?" I was taunted.
"Are you being funny or sarcastic?"
"Depends on how you view it, Master."
He was again lying on his bed. Gavin, his beta, had been knocking at the door a couple of times, saying a neighboring pack wanted to trade with their pack, but Alpha Raphael let the beta handle the affairs.
The previous alpha, after knowing about it, stormed inside Alpha Raphael's room and gave him an earful. He was saying things about his responsibilities and duties and transferring his work to the beta. Which
he answered with something like it was also his job as his second-in-command.
"Are you not dying to go outside?"
"I always go outside, Master Raphael." And when I do, the men stay away from me as if I brought death.
"Come on. You can call me Raphael right now."
I raised my brows at him. "You were adamant about forcing me to call you Master."
Watch That's all in the past, woman. I was only trying to scare you."
He may be telling the truth. Alpha Raphael appears arrogant and serious on the outside, but on the inside, he is nothing but a child trapped inside an adult's body.
I feel sorry for his mate. He needed a lot of things to do before he would mature.
"You cannot force me. I will call you master since you spent your fortune on buying me." He always brought that up.
So far, the alpha has not made any moves on forcing me. When we were sleeping, I was on the couch while he was on the bed.
He sat on his bed. "Don't you miss the palace?"
My heart jumped at the mention of that place. "I don't. Let's not talk about that place. It is not my home. This is my new place," I lied with a straight face.
"How about your child?"
I grabbed the nearest pillow and threw it on his face, which he easily caught. Alpha Raphael put it aside.
"I've thought that Father is right. You cannot stay here. The curse or whatever happens in this pack is still in effect, killing our women. With a child you have, the best thing you can do is return there. If you want,
I will prepare a carriage for our journey."
"I don't believe in any curse, Master." Perhaps the women caught an unknown disease that killed them. I suggest you call a pack doctor to investigate."
"We did it a couple of times. There is no finding. Are you sure you don't want to talk to the alpha king?"
"I am your slave, yes. But I will not give you the right to pry on my life, Master."
"I'm just thinking the alpha king will protect you."
Protect me? If this man only knew. Instead of protecting me, the alpha king might kill me after my sister betrayed him.
"I don't want to talk about him."
