Bumped
It felt as if my strength had left me after hearing those words from the woman.
The alpha king would be coming.
I stood, becoming frantic as moments passed by.
Looking around, I saw nothing but the crowd of visitors enjoying themselves while the servants were ready at their disposal.
My breathing became faster.
I had to hide. To my room. Or wherever, as long as the alpha king would never find me.
"Dog Servant. Where are you going?" Lady Juliana called, but I spared her no time. She called me again a couple of times, but I could no longer hear anything. The need to run away was calling me. Urgently.
Not looking my way, I bumped into someone, said my apologies, but did not glance anymore to look for the person.
Where should I hide again?
The orchestra in the background started playing-another cue for the start of the dance.
With my heart on my sleeve, my steps did not falter until I reached the hallway. Dead silence greeted me. Or so I thought.
"You're so wicked, Raphael," a woman's voice purred.
I stopped in my tracks and hid in the corner.
The giggle of the woman's voice echoed across the silent hallway. All were required to be in the hall.
I peeked and saw Alpha Raphael's back while the woman's hands were wrapped around his neck as if her life depended on him. The former looked like he was whispering something in her ears.
"What if you find your mate?" the woman asked, pouting. "What will become of me? Will you disregard me like what you did to the others, Raphael? Don't you dare do that. I know your reputation. I heard everything about the white-haired alpha who keeps taking any woman he likes."
If she knows the alpha's reputation, why risk her heart in the first place? I did not get her reasons.
"Silly. I asked the Moon Goddess never to give me one if she's not as beautiful as you," the alpha answered.
Satisfied at his answer, the woman giggled, and the two kissed as if there was no tomorrow.
I feel sick watching them. This was my first time seeing Alpha Raphael with another woman. I did not expect him to be this bold-going after a woman and risking his Father's fury.
No. He reminded me of Alpha Erik back then. Speaking of that man, what happened to him?
"What a flirt." The woman pinched his cheeks.
"Only for you, doll." And the two kissed again.
Shaking, I closed my eyes for a moment, wanting to erase the scenario I had seen.
I think I am going to get sick. The more I watched them, made me felt like I wanted to smack Alpha Raphael's forehead. He should be meeting the visitors instead of me. His father was already having a headache dealing with the visitors, but here was the son, having the best day of his life.
Stepping out of the shadows, I inched closer to them, but the two did not sense my presence. Their mouths were superglue to each other.
Getting their attention, I cleared my throat. Their attention shifted to me.
The woman jumped, seeing me. Then, she wiped the look of surprise on her face.
"Your slave is calling you," the woman said in disgust, which I only answered with a smile.
"You did not know her?"
Alpha Raphael released the woman.
"Why should I know here, alpha? Is she some royalty? Or the alpha king's mate?" She chuckled. "I have never seen the queen in my entire life. I heard she was back from the dead."
The woman straightened her clothes. She was hot and sexy. So, this was the kind of woman the alpha was after? Or was it all women in general?
"Doll, she's the "
I bowed at the alpha. "Master Raphael. Your Father asked me to look for you. He said something urgent came up," I uttered, lying with a straight face and at the same time cutting off his words. Who said being a
liar was becoming more convenient? "He said you must go to him now, Master Raphael."
"So, it is true she is your slave."
"If I were you, Alpha, I would never let your Father get angrier," I reminded. If his Father were furious, he would never show it to the others.
Alpha Raphael's brows furrowed. "Are you sure?"
"Quite certain, Master Raphael. Why would I lie to my master?"
The alpha kissed the woman on the lips.
I turned sideways, not wanting them to see I was rolling my eyes at them. They made my skin crawl in disgust.
"Will we see each other again, Alpha? Please don't tell me this will be our last?" the woman asked.
She was the clingy type, even if she knew there was a high probability that the two were not mates. Oh, great. She was only breaking her own heart.
Brushing her cheeks with the back of his palm, the alpha answered, "We will, doll. I will come looking for you-"
I cleared my throat again. "Uhm, Master Raphael?" I asked, cutting off his words.
He threw me an irritated look. "A moment, please."
"Your Father cannot wait anymore. He needed your presence more than the woman."
Sighing, he stepped away. "I'll look for you in the crowd. It's rare for our pack to be visited by a goddess like you."
"I will wait for you, then."
Alpha Raphael forced his eyes on me. "Where is Father?"
"At the hall. He is waiting for you there." More like he was having a conversation with the other alphas from the neighboring pack, but he did not have to know that.
"I will be waiting, Raphael."
Raphael.
First name basis now?
The alpha kept glancing at the gorgeous woman behind us, but the more I dragged him away from her.
"You should have said to Father that I peed, woman."
Sensing the woman was already out of our sight, I stopped and faced him. "Your Father did not tell me to look for you, but he did really look for you earlier, Master Raphael."
"You lied."
I thought he would be angry at me. But he was not.
"I lied because I wanted to save the poor woman's heart from being broken. Men like you...." I trailed off.
"Men like me, what? Stop your stereotypes against men."
"Take responsibility for your actions first before you judge me."
He groaned and murmured, "You sounded like my mother."
"Where is your mother? I haven't seen her in the pack."
The alpha's expression turned cold. "Dead. That's all you have to know."
"Because she's a woman? Or because someone killed her? Or was she sick?"
His pace turned faster. "Did you come here to interrogate me?"
Talking about his mother was a sensitive issue for him. I mentally reminded myself to remember that. There were boundaries I should never cross in exchange for being kind to me during my stay here.
"Will I die like her?"
"You wouldn't. The alpha king will get you away from this pack. You are only allowed to come back when I have already fixed that problem."
We turned sideways and saw a pair of werewolves getting hot toward each other. Mates. Good for them.
"Will he come?" I whispered softly.
"I told you he will. Don't let your fear eat your heart. The alpha king will be good to you. He will never hurt you."
Yada. Yada. Yada.
Of course, the alpha would continue defending his king for as long as he lived.
"Hey. Wait for me, woman."
I walked faster. He will continue talking about how great his alpha king is.
I titled my head and glanced at him. "You sounded as if you knew him for the rest of your life. The alpha king is not the way he is. Your loyalty to him blinds you."
"I am only telling the truth. My own version of the truth, okay?"
I snorted but remained silent. When it comes to that bastard, my saliva was not worth it.
"Woman. May I know how you will take care of your child? Do you know what you will answer when she asks for her Father?"
Facing him, I folded my arms in front of my chest. "Oh, that's simple. I will tell her that her Father died from a rogue's attack."
"Don't you think it's unfair for your child? I mean lying."
"Unfair? In what sense? And when did you become the alpha king's spokesperson?"
The alpha groaned while matching my pace.
"It's the child's right to be with her Father. Whatever issues you have with her Father, the child is no longer included in your conflicts. Woman. Give them a chance to get to know each other. As Father and daughter."
"Why are you saying those kinds of things, Master Raphael? Did you also father a lot of children? Speaking as if you have a lot of children, to begin with."
"No. But I am putting my shoes in the children's situation. I hope you will do the same."
And he left me behind.
I ran after Alpha Raphael. My blood boiled.
It was easy for him to say because he had never experienced it. It was not him who was hurt in the first place. It was not he who was scared for the future of his child.
"Enough of that nonsense, Master Raphael. You are not helping me change my mind, you see."
We were finally back in the hall. It was too late when I realized it was not what I should be doing. I should be hiding by now. Stay away from the alpha king. However, it seemed that a bit part of me was pushingme back to this venue.
I watched as Alpha Raphael's father nearly punched him if not for the visitors they were with.
I paced back and reminded myself that I should go back to my room when my back hit something hard. A wall?
Glancing up, my mouth parted when I came face to face with the person whom I was evading the alpha king.
Triple shit.
