Loving the alpha king?
I snorted. "Oh, please, Delta Isagani. You are making me laugh. I do not love the alpha king. Why would I? I can easily leave him if Master Raphael comes here and gets me." That was not a lie, there. Speaking of the alpha, I never heard anything from him or his pack. Did he find his women? I hope he finds them so that I will return to Riverside Pack. That pack would be a great place for growing a child. I was hoping and waiting for Master Raphael. Was he okay right now? I hoped he was.
Delta Isagani leaned on me and watched my eyes. "What are you thinking? You are not thinking of hiding the child away from the alpha king, River. Don't ever do that. Will you at least even for once think of how devastated the alpha king would be?"
I gave him an innocent look. "I'm not thinking about that," I lied. "I will stay here. For quite some time."
Delta Isagani was back on giving me his sad look. "River. Please think about what the alpha king might feel when you suddenly leave him. Almost all people left him. If you also did that, he will be hurt the most. Do you want your child to be fatherless? Don't rob the alpha king of his happiness. He is doing everything he can to make you happy and your life comfortable here."
"I don't want my child to grow in the palace," I muttered while continuing to caress my tummy. "I believe he will not be happy if he stays here."
"That is not for you to decide. We don't know for sure. Let them have some bond."
I heaved a sigh.
I must admit that the need to punish the alpha king was still imprinted in my heart. That was why I will be taking the child away from him. Or to wherever as long as he would never see us again. 4 Was I being unfair?
I could be.
We were now outside, and the carriage was waiting for us ahead. However, I had to step down on the staircases which were difficult and dangerous given that I could no longer see what I was stepping on because of my tummy.
Delta Isagani offered his hand and without hesitation, anchored my hands on his arms. His body was full of muscles.
Despite being the sad boy, the delta had this aura that was dependable. Whenever I was with him, I could relax. Not the same with the beta's presence. The latter was always spiteful as if the world had gone a lot to him.
"Careful, River. Easy. Easy," he instructed, still walking down the stairs. "This is why His Highness wanted to have someone with you. He is always at edge whenever you are not by his line of sight." "Why can't he do it himself?" Why did he ask someone to do it for himself? He was the father of my little pumpkin, I grumbled which made me stop later on. Damn. Where did those thoughts come from? "He is attending some affairs right now. Especially about the other kingdom."
"What kingdom?"
"The princess's kingdom."
Leonora and Calixtro?
We stopped in front of the carriage. "What about it? I thought it was already settled. The princess no longer wanted the alpha king after their last visit. She was silent already." The last words she said before rang in my mind. "Is she having the alpha king's child?"
"That is what she always said in her letters. That she is with a child."
My feet turned cold. "So, something did happen between them? Was the alpha king drinking at that time?"
"His Highness insisted that nothing happened between them."
I will only trust Isagani's words if I see the princess with my own eyes.
As if consoling me, my little pumpkin kicked my stomach.
I caressed my tummy.
"Why did Maxxwell have to lie about it?"
Delta Isagani looked around. "That is what His Highness wanted you to think because of your condition. The princess continued giving some letters to the alpha king for the past seven months. The alpha king did everything he could to stop her from coming here, but the princess no longer was happy about His Highness's refusal and sent some troops to our borders. Leonora wanted the alpha king more than ever."
My body went cold.
"War will happen." All because of the mess the alpha king started. The princess was bad news, to begin with.
"His Highness will do everything he can so that it will not happen."
My eyes watered. My sensitivity was from my hormones. Not because I love the alpha king.
"The princess is persistent. No. Those siblings were. How could he hide from me?"
I bit my fingernails. I must do something. War should be the last option if worse comes to worst. I never wanted my child to experience war.
"I should have never told you about it. His Highness forbids me from telling you."
"Why can't he marry the princess, instead?"
Delta Isagani threw me an irritated look. "Do you hear what you are saying, River? You want your mate to marry someone else when he is doing everything in his power to stop the princess?"
I bit my lower lip. "Technically we are still not mates."
"If your mark still tingles every time you see the alpha king near you and every time he touches you, well, that means your wolves rejected your rejection. For your wolf, you and the alpha king are still mates. I can also see his mark on your neck so you two are mates."
"If that's the last resort, why not?"
"His Highness will not marry anyone except for you. He wants to be with you and your child. Not the princess. Or anyone. Just you and your child. He was clear on that."
After lying to him that the child was not his, the alpha king continued thinking this was his and did not care if it was someone else.
"Sounds romantic," I mumbled, full of sarcasm.
"The alpha king will do anything he can to protect you, two." The delta looked at my stomach. "If you did not see it, he was happy that you came back and will likely see his son next month." "This is not his child." 1
"Tell that to the deaf."
"Why can't you believe me?"
"There is no one else except the alpha king. When the boy will be outside, the people will know he looks like his father-the alpha king."
I rolled my eyes at him. "You say whatever you want. It is getting late. Hop in if you want to come with me."
"I will not join you."
I glared at him. "You said you will join me. That is why you are coming with me, right? If that's the case, I should hurry."
Delta Isagani looked at me with guilt. "Actually, I am only stalling so that His Highness will finish his task and join you, instead. Oh, he is here already."
I looked at where he was gazing and there, at the entrance, was the alpha king running towards us. He nearly fell from the staircase but was able to gain his balance.
"You deceive me, Delta Isagani."
"I was only telling a white lie. Don't be too hard on it."
Running at full speed, Maxxwell reached us. "Sorry to keep you waiting, River," he apologized.
He was sweating all over, but he was still handsome in my eyes. Wait. Those were not my thoughts. Really.
"A royal is forbidden to run."
"No one saw it."
"We did. I just want to clarify your statement earlier. I am not waiting for you, Your Highness," I clarified. "Your delta lied to me saying he wants to go with me only to find out that it was you who will be joining me."
Wiping the sweat from his forehead (which was sexy, by the way again not my thoughts), he said, "I told you to stall for some time and tell her I will go with her."
The delta shrugged his shoulders. "She won't listen to me and go on alone if she knows you will join her. I lied. I will be leaving the two of you, Your Highness. Still had a lot of things to do."
When we were alone, I muttered, "I can manage on my own. You can continue doing whatever you do. Leave me alone for a moment, Your Highness."
The alpha king towered over me. I looked up, realizing he was becoming huge. "You can manage? What if there is an assassin or a thief who wants your life? Can you run at your own pace?"
I hate that he was right.
But there was no way I was telling him that.
"I can think of something else," I snapped. "There is no way someone would not help a pregnant woman."
"That is the point. They may or may not help you at all." He snorted. "Your life will be compromised. So, I will be joining you. You should be safe at all times."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Why did you know I will be going to the marketplace?"
"I asked all the drivers of the carriage to mind link me when you ask for them. And they did earlier."
I fisted on my hands. "Will you give me some space for a moment, Maxxwell? Your presence is irritating the hell out of me."
The alpha king held his hands in the air and grinned. "No offense taken, my Queen. I will just think that the baby's mood right now is telling you that." "Why are you so cool about accepting my child which is not yours?"
His eyes glinted. "The child is mine."
"The child is not yours."
"Really?"
He strolled towards me and I backed away until my back hit the carriage. Gulping, I looked him in the eyes. "Y-yes, really."
He stopped in front of me, the distance? Dangerous. I could hear my own heart pumping its own blood. My body felt cold, and I could not help but shiver.
"I asked someone to investigate what you did when you were out of the palace. Until you reach the Riverside Pack. The informant told me you were already pregnant. The baby is mine." He smirked and he looked like the most handsome devil of all. Dammit! Why did I continue appreciating his looks today? "Do you want to lie again? Say it while I am still in the mood, River."
I felt the temperature of my cheeks rise. "Fuck you!"
"Fuck me, instead," he taunted. "The nights are getting lonely these days, my Queen. I'm looking for a human blanket. Do you want to volunteer?"
"I would rather kill you, myself! Damn you!" I cursed and turned my back on him. Not trusting my emotions right now.
