Contractions
Princess Leonora was irritating as fuck. She was pestering Maxxwell (when I happened to see them), asking him about foods she wanted to eat. Her pouts were the most irritating of all, while Prince Calixtro was always at her side, guarding her always.
As much as I wanted to stay away from her, I failed most of the time. Unfortunately, it seemed like Princess Leonora always knew where to find me. To annoy the hell out of me.
Was it not enough that he had already ruined my relationship with the alpha king?
Let's just go in the other direction, Quinn, I muttered to myself while touching my belly.
I was about to go to the dining area, but it was still early. Perhaps the princess and her brother were still there.
I had to control myself now. That included my emotions.
Any moment from now, I will be giving birth. The pack doctor kept on telling me that I had to walk more so that I would give birth easily, which I was doing right now by evading the princess and walking more.
I had to go to the flower garden. Seeing the flower calmed me. Which reminded me of Maxxwell. Our plan to visit Zenith's tomb was pushed aside when the princess came here.
Maybe I will ask the twins about Zenith's tomb and go there myself.
Waiting for the alpha king would be next to impossible. He was always doing something. Sometimes, I would think he was evading me.
Now...where were the twins when I needed them most?
I gasped when out of nowhere, she was suddenly in front of me smiling. "May I know where you are going, Your Grace? You are not running away from me, are you?"
Talk of the she-devil, and she will come.
Faking a surprised look, I pointed at myself. "Me? Running away? Why would I do that? I am not a thief."
"We rarely meet and dine together," she replied. "I have been staying here for almost a month, but I could not see even your shadow. That is the reason why I think you are running away from me. I wonder why you are doing that? Perhaps you are shaken by my presence?"
Shaking? Delusional.
I shook my head a couple of times. "Me? Oh, please. It's not like that, princess. I've been busy these past few weeks. I'm nearly giving birth. I have to make sure that everything is fine before my baby, the heir to the throne, comes out."
She looked at my bulging stomach.
Princess Leonora pressed her lips in a thin line.
"When will you give birth?"
It was my time to smile. "This week. Or maybe next week. I'm excited to see the first heir to the throne, princess. He will lead his people well. He will be called the sage king loved by his people."
Princess Leonora scoffed. "Be thankful you know the alpha king first. If not, I will be the one carrying the heir to the throne."
"You dream a lot, princess. Perhaps it is time to wake up from your slumber."
Her eyes bulged. "What did you say?"
I held my finger in front of her face. "Ah, ah. Getting angry is not good for both of us. Not good for the baby."
The princess looked at the surrounding before she whispered something in my ears. "Stay away from the alpha king after you give birth. If there is someone who fits to be a queen, that is me, a princess. Not a Dog Slave." She stepped away from me.
Dog Slave.
This woman had done some investigations alright. Interesting. How much did she know?
I folded my arms in front of my chest. "Who are you to boss the queen around, brat?"
A muscle in her jaw twitched. "Brat? Who are you calling a brat?"
"You are acting like a brat right now. No one dictates me in my kingdom. Not even you. I hope we are clear on that."
"No! I want the alpha king to myself."
I smirked. "Too bad I want him also. My son, the future king, wants him also. So, can you please get over your obsession with him and let me have him myself? You are not his mate, okay?"
Princess Leonora's face was red.
Good.
I looked at my fingernails. I had to cut them. I don't want to harm my child.
Yes, back to her, I asked, "Is there anything you want to say? Tell me when I am still nice to you. Let's not forget that it is my good grace, which is the reason why you are still with your beloved alpha king. I told you that you could stay here. Your beloved alpha king had another plan with you, and that was to toss you outside."
"Why are you harassing my sister, Your Grace?"
Princess Leonora and I looked to the source of the voice and saw it was none other than her beloved brother.
Great. Her beloved comrade. Another source of my stress.
Wait for a while, Quinn. I will just finish this.
The princess pouted. "Brother."
They met halfway, and the prince kissed the princess on her cheeks.
I cringed.
Was that necessary? The display of affection?
Oh, what did it has to do with me? Families had their own different weird ways of showing affection.
Caressing my tummy, I responded, "The only one harassing me is your sister, Prince Calixtro. Did you know what she said to me? She wanted me to leave the alpha king." I was the only one allowed to decide on that. "Like hell. Who gives her the right?"
"Your Grace," Pirnce Calixtro started, snaking his arms on her waist. The princess heavily leaned on his brother. "No one harasses my sister. Not under my watch."
I never understood their relationship.
I looked at him, confused. "Did you hear what I said? It is your sister threatening me, damn it!"
"The slaves in your blood run deep that you cannot even forget your embarrassing roots. You have no class. You are not worthy of being called the queen and the mother of the future heir. Why did the Moon Goddess choose you as the alpha king's mate? There is nothing extraordinary about you, anyway."
Wow.
A punch in the gut.
Disgusting bastard.
"I'm sorry? Did you just mock me?" My hunch was right. They did ask someone to investigate me. "How gentleman of you to quarrel against a pregnant woman." I pointed them both. "You have the audacity to join forces, huh? Really cool. This only shows what kind of upbringing they let you experience," I spat.
"Give what my sister wants."
"Your sister? Well, why don't you answer me straight? Is she even your sister?"
Prince Calixtro was taken aback by my questions. He glanced at the princess and then back to me. "We are siblings."
"You don't look like one. You can pass as her husband. I do not have dirty minds, but your actions told me so."
"How dare you say those disgusting words!" Princess Leonora exclaimed. Her voice echoed across the empty hallways. "We are siblings! We are related in blood. Stop saying those sick words of yours and start acting like royalty."
I rolled my eyes at them. "Tell that to the fools. You, siblings, are wasting so much of my time. You have to-"
I stopped when a wave of pain hit me hard.
Contractions.
Fuck.
The siblings looked at me weirdly.
Am I going to give birth? Right now? I put one of my hands on the bottom of my belly. The pain was continuous.
I always had a belly and lower back pain. My baby had already dropped lower.
Damn it.
Not in front of them. I did not want to give them the satisfaction of seeing me in pain.
"You look constipated," Princess Leonora taunted. "You should go back and settle that."
That was what I was trying to do now.
"I-I have to go."
I inhaled and released a breath.
Another contraction.
Easy, Quinn. Please, not now.
Beads of sweat coated my forehead.
"Hey."
The princess was about to touch me, but I slapped her hands away.
"What was that for?"
I breathed deeply. The pain had started to subside.
I froze when I recalled I had vaginal discharge earlier. Watery but sometimes color pink.
Dammit
"Don't touch me," I muttered through gritted teeth. I should inform the pack doctor now and stay there at his clinic. The clinic. Where was it again? Ah. A couple of meters beside the alpha king's chamber. The alpha king suggested he would temporarily stay there to accommodate me.
"I am just worried."
I scoffed. "Worried? You make me laugh, princess. The only one you are worried about is the alpha king. Nobody else."
"You got me there."
"You should call your slave and ask her to assist you. Don't you find it funny, brother? A slave asking for another slave? Lucky bitches."
I inhaled deeply and glared at them. "You never failed to disappointment."
"Don't care. All that mattered was the alpha king."
"He does not matter to you. Accept that."
I released a shaky breath.
The pain subsided.
But I need to be sure and contact the pack doctor.
Now, when was the alpha king when I needed him most?
The two finally gave me the peace I badly needed when they left.
I closed my eyes and reached for our bond.
'Maxxwell.'
No response.
'Maxxwell? Answer me!'
He did not.
'If you don't want to see your child, fine! Screw yourself!'
