“Ella is my sister, of course, she’ll choose the best of everything in the end,” Henry Smith said with a proud expression, completely forgetting how he had been ignoring his sister for a long time because of the person she had chosen to be her boyfriend.
“Let’s go to the hospital now. Tomorrow, Ella will be discharged, and we can finally take her back home,” Clara Jones said while packing her things.
On the other side, Alex Walker was trying very hard to feed the porridge to Ella.
“Ella, be good, open your mouth. Starting tomorrow, you can eat whatever you want. You just have to eat this porridge today.”
“But brother Alex, I really don’t want to eat this. I feel like vomiting just looking at it. How can I eat this? Please, brother Alex, I really want to eat chicken wings,” Ella demanded, pouting.
Looking at her expression, Alex really wanted to make chicken wings for her personally, but today was the last day of her medication, so she could only eat this porridge.
“You just look at me, and I’ll feed you, okay?” Alex said while looking into Ella’s eyes. He didn’t even know what came over him—he said that sentence without thinking.
And what was even more surprising was that Ella agreed.
“Sure, brother Alex,” she replied happily and opened her mouth. She really didn’t want the porridge, but she couldn’t ignore the effort Alex had made.
They were so caught up in each other that they didn’t even notice the two people standing at the door, watching them.
The people at the door were none other than Henry Smith and Clara Jones. Clara had a clear smile on her face, but Henry’s expression was filled with frustration. He wanted to rush into the ward and throw Alex out, but he was helpless—his mother kept warning him with her eyes.
He really wanted to know why his mom, who was such a strong and capable woman, always turned into a fangirl whenever she saw Alex and Ella together.
Finally, when Ella finished her food and Alex was about to clean her mouth, Henry couldn’t hold back any longer. He barged in, shouting,
“What are you doing?”
Ella was startled by the shout, but Alex remained calm and gently wiped her mouth.
“Brother, why are you shouting so loudly? You almost gave me a heart attack,” Ella complained, pouting.
“If I didn’t shout, you two would’ve continued with your lovey-dovey act, hmm?” Henry said sarcastically. “Alex, bro, I think now you should go home. Mom and I are more than capable of taking care of Ella.”
Clara didn’t stop Henry, because she knew he was just pretending to argue with Alex—there were no hard feelings.
“Okay then, I won’t waste your time. I’ll come tomorrow. Good night, Aunt Clara.” After saying that, he walked out of the ward without giving Henry a chance to say anything more.
The next day, the family of three finally returned home—and needless to say, Alex Walker was also with them. They helped Ella into her princess-style room, which was even bigger than the master bedroom.
They all sat in Ella’s room and chatted for a while. Nina also came with some nutritious and delicious food—all of Ella’s favorites.
“Ella, your leg cast will be removed in a week. After that, you can go back to school. Remember what I said—stay away from Lisa. She’s not as simple as she looks on the surface. And that Jackson is only after your money, so make sure to keep your distance from him,” Clara reminded her again.
As soon as they got home, Lisa Brown and Jackson Bell had come to visit Ella, but they were stopped by the security at the gate on Clara’s instructions.
The whole week passed quickly, and Ella’s leg cast was also removed. During that week, Alex came every day at dinner time—conveniently freeloading.
On Monday, while Ella was getting ready for school in her room, many thoughts were flashing through her mind. In her past life, she had purposely skipped studying just to irritate Alex’s mom and give her one more reason to oppose their engagement.
Alex’s mom had created a lot of trouble over that back then. Ella hadn’t cared at the time, but now she knew she needed to change all that. She couldn’t give Alex’s mom a reason to introduce other girls to him because of her weaknesses.
And today was also the day her “wonderful” father, Charles Smith, would return from his so-called business trip, with his mistress. But this time, they were very late in returning. Her mom and Henry had already started investigating almost every project from the past nineteen years. The truth would come out soon.
When she went to the dining room, her brother and mom were already there, talking about something. They stopped as soon as they saw Ella coming.
“Eat this porridge, Ella, and these vegetables too,” Clara said, as usual, piling food into Ella’s bowl until it looked like a little mountain. No matter how much Ella protested, it was always useless.
Henry just shook his head at the familiar mother-daughter bickering. To him, they were incredibly cute.
