“Hmm right, and who are you to talk in my matter? Did I allow you to speak?” Ella Smith asked indifferently.
Lisa Brown felt angry at this embarrassment, but she knew she couldn’t flare up now, so she controlled herself.
“Ella, I’m only saying this for your benefit. You don’t have to be so angry. Please, Ella, don’t hurt Brother Jackson.”
If Ella hadn’t known the true colors of Lisa, she would’ve definitely felt pity for her. But being reborn, she knew very well what kind of devil was hidden behind that innocent face.
“And why do you think he’s my boyfriend? I came in contact with this person because of you, and not even once did I meet him without you. So why are you trying to make him my boyfriend? Is it because I gave him money out of charity? But I also gave money to you—so, according to your logic, are you my girlfriend now?”
Before Lisa could say anything, Ella continued,
“Sorry, but I already have a fiancé, and I’m not interested in girls.”
After saying this, Ella was about to leave, but she stopped in her steps.
“One more thing—if giving you money makes you my boyfriend or something else, then don’t worry, because from today onwards, I won’t give either of you a single penny. And if you dare to follow me again, I swear I’ll report it to the police—along with all the money you both have taken from me over the years.”
With that, Ella walked past them and headed toward the cafeteria for lunch, leaving a furious and humiliated Jackson Bell and Lisa Brown behind.
Jackson still wanted to follow her, but the moment he heard the word “police” and “return the money,” he froze. He came from a very small town, and his family didn’t have the means to deal with lawsuits. All the money Ella had given him was through online transactions, so she had proof. If she really filed a complaint, he’d have to return the money. But first, he didn’t want to, and second, he didn’t even have that much anymore.
And he didn’t believe Lisa Brown would actually help him if Ella really did go to the police.
As for Lisa, this whole incident happened at the door of her class, and so many people had witnessed it. They all knew she had taken money from Ella, and that damn Ella didn’t even give her a chance to deny it. Even if she had been given the chance, she wouldn’t have said anything—because just like Jackson, she too had received money from Ella, mostly through online transfers. And if she pushed Ella any further, she knew Ella would definitely show those transactions in front of the entire class. That would be even more humiliating.
Ella, who was now looking for a place to sit with a food tray in her hands, suddenly heard someone call out from behind.
“Hey! Come here. Sit here!”
Ella turned and saw Liam calling her over. She took her food and sat down with Liam. Opposite them sat George Hall, silently eating and minding his own business.
“So, you’ve finally seen through your two best friends?” Liam asked curiously, which surprised Ella. Liam had a bossy nature, and many people were afraid of her at school. Seeing her speak so casually and kindly was definitely unexpected.
“Yeah. A little late, but I’ve finally seen people’s true colors,” Ella admitted openly.
Because of her reply, George Hall gave her a deep look for a second but then went back to eating without saying anything.
Ella noticed his gaze, but since he didn’t say anything, she also minded her own business and continued chatting with Liam. After spending some time with Liam, she realized that she only appeared strict on the outside.
On the other side, when Charles Smith and Ava Brown finally stepped out of the airport, they received news about the investigation. Almost half of the people they had planted in the company were now either in police custody or had been fired.
Charles was so angry with Henry Smith and Clara Jones that he started cursing them right in the car. Compared to him, Ava remained calm. She knew Clara must have discovered something serious. That’s why she had taken this step. Before doing anything reckless, Ava knew she had to understand the full situation.
When they reached the company, Charles stormed into Clara’s office.
“Clara, what is this? Why did you take such a step without my permission?” he shouted, throwing his phone in anger.
“Why? As the CEO of the company, do you think I need your permission to make decisions?” Clara asked calmly, unfazed by his anger.
“Because I’m your husband! And this is a very big matter. You didn’t even think to consult me. You’ve really crossed the line this time. Immediately reinstate all the people you fired and withdraw your lawsuit against Asher!” Charles ordered like he was some kind of king.
“So you mean the people who misused company funds and resources for their own benefit should just be let off? Why?” Clara asked again, still calm.
Charles was even angrier because of her composed attitude. But deep inside, he knew he had to stop this investigation—because if it continued, the frauds he had committed over the years would come to light. And the plan he and Ava Brown had been working on for years would be completely destroyed.
