“They’ve also committed many frauds in the company. Now your brother and I are taking action against them, and you are their soft target. So you have to be careful, child,” Clara Jones said, a little emotional after finishing her words.
Henry Smith understood how difficult it was for their mother to say all this, so he continued,
“Ella, Jackson Bell, that so-called friend of yours, was arranged by Lisa Brown to deceive you. I also think they had something to do with your accident. Thank God you’ve come back to your senses this time.”
“Ella, you just have to keep your guard up around that mother-daughter duo. I’ve already arranged secret bodyguards for you. Don’t worry, they won’t interfere with your daily life—they’ll just protect you from the shadows.”
Ella Smith stood up and hugged her mother tightly. She could feel how hard this must be for Clara to accept. Now that she’d seen it all with her own eyes, she felt heartbroken for her mom.
She wouldn’t let Charles Smith, Ava Brown, or Lisa Brown live happily ever after, everything they had done. They would all pay for their sins.
“Mom, don’t be sad. My brother and I will always stand by you, no matter what happens. So please don’t be sad,” Ella said with determination.
Clara and Henry were both deeply touched by Ella’s words. Clara patted her back gently, “Okay, okay, baby. Mother knows you’ve grown up now.”
Henry came over and wrapped both of them in a hug. He’d been mature since childhood, but after learning of Charles Smith’s betrayal, it was like he’d aged overnight.
“Okay, okay. This isn’t the time to cry. I want both of you to be prepared because I’m going to divorce Charles Smith,” Clara said firmly, her eyes full of resolve. “Others will try everything to make the situation worse for us. Henry, you have to take control of the company matters as soon as possible. And Ella, you must guard your shares. Don’t let anyone fool you.”
Ella nodded. In her past life, her shares had been snatched away under the excuse that she wasn’t worthy of holding Li family assets. But now, everything was different. She knew exactly what to do. She didn’t need to worry about the company, because her mother and brother were capable—what she had to do was protect her family from those petty, low-class schemes. With thoughts of the future in her mind, she slowly fell asleep.
The next morning, Ava Brown woke up early to chat with her daughter. Last night, Charles Smith had come back to the villa and hadn’t let her leave her room. Because of that, she hadn’t had the chance to talk to Lisa properly.
Now, finally, she had the chance.
“Lisa, tell Mom what happened while I was gone. Why has Clara Jones changed so suddenly? And what about Ella—is she also behaving strangely?”
“Mom, you don’t even know how that bitch Ella decided to be with Alex Walker! She’s even acknowledged their engagement. They’re spending more time together—yesterday, Alex even picked her up from school himself! Mom, what should I do? Alex is mine!”
Lisa Brown started complaining and crying. She was also a daughter of the Smith family, so the engagement should’ve belonged to her. Why did Ella always get everything good?
“Calm down, my child. Just calm down. Tell me everything. Didn’t Ella fall in love with the boy you arranged for her? Why is she with Alex Walker now?”
“Mom, you don’t know—after she fell from that bridge, she changed. She completely changed! Before, she loved Jackson Bell like crazy. But now? She doesn’t even look at him. She even ended all ties with Jackson in front of Alex!”
“Does she know that her fall from the bridge was planned... by you?”
“No, Mom. I arranged everything behind the scenes. There’s no way she could’ve known it was all my doing.”
“Alright, then do this—find a chance to be alone with them. I’ll arrange for some photographers to secretly take pictures. We’ll post those on the school Weibo account. That way, Ella won’t be able to clarify her relationship with that boy. The Walker family will start having doubts about her, and your chances with Alex will improve.”
“Mom, you’re the best!” Lisa squealed as she hugged Ava. It really was a brilliant idea—if Ella didn’t want to be with Jackson, then she’d just stir up rumors to force the narrative.
