Ava Brown controlled her hatred and looked at Charles Smith with loving eyes, saying in a sweet voice, "Hubby, you should get up now. I’ll go make breakfast for you, and you take a shower. Then after breakfast, let’s go to the company together."
"Good," Charles said, kissing her forehead before heading to the washroom.
Ava hurriedly stood up from the bed, exited, and dialed an international number.
On the other side, today Henry Smith had come to drop Ella Smith at school, with all kinds of snacks in the backseat of the car for her.
“Ya ya, brother has to go out of the city for a week starting tomorrow. Alex Walker will drop and pick you up in the meantime. You have to focus on your studies and spend more time with Mom—don’t let her feel alone. And you must not listen to Charles or Ava’s words. You have to be smart, okay?” Henry said, rubbing Ella’s head.
“Brother, don’t rub my head—you’ll mess up my hairstyle! And you’ve said the same thing at least ten times. I know you’re going out of town tomorrow. I have to spend more time with Mom so she won’t feel sad, and I don’t have to listen to Charles or Ava’s words. Look, I’ve memorized your speech. Can you please stop repeating it on loop, brother?” Ella said, puffing her cheeks at Henry.
“Okay, okay, I won’t say it again. But you also have to take care of yourself, okay? Now go study properly.” Henry handed Ella her school bag.
“Okay, bye brother!” Ella opened the car door and got out.
Ella watched until Henry had already disappeared, then took out her phone and made a call. “Brother Alex, I need your help. Can you please—”
Alex Walker was in a meeting when he received Ella’s call. The tense atmosphere in the room instantly lightened. At first, the members were shocked when they heard the ringtone, because using phones in meetings was strictly forbidden. They held their breath, but when Alex answered with a smile, all of them were even more shocked.
Everyone knew the young master had joined the company at age twenty, and his nature was as cold as ice—no one had ever seen him smile. But now he was smiling as he looked at his phone.
They all wondered who was on the other side of the call.
Alex picked up and said, “Hello,” in his deep, sexy voice.
When he heard Ella needed his help, he was very happy—this was the first time she had asked for help. “Hmm, tell me.”
“Brother Alex, the car you mentioned last time—I want that car,” Ella said in a demanding tone. Hearing her demand, Alex couldn’t help but laugh.
“Those two cars are modified just for you, but you’re still underage and can’t drive. I’ll send a driver with those cars so you can use them.”
“No, Brother Alex, I don’t need the car for myself. You’re going out of town tomorrow, so I need the car for you. You don’t have to send those cars to me. Brother will take one car from you tomorrow morning,” Ella said sweetly.
“Sure, no problem. But it’s class time now—why aren’t you in class? Are you bunking?” Alex asked, his voice teasing.
“No, Brother Alex, I was about to attend class. Remember to pick me up on time,” Ella said, blushing, then cut the call before Alex could say anything. She ran toward her class, with only two minutes left before it started.
In the office, Alex looked at the ended call. No one had ever hung up on him like that. He shook his head, put the phone away, and said coldly, “Let’s continue the meeting,” acting like nothing had happened.
But the news that Alex smiled and laughed while talking on the phone had already spread throughout the company. Everyone was very curious about who was on the other end.
When Ella reached her classroom, her desk mate was already waving at her. She was also a close friend, after Lisa Brown. Ella had broken friendship with Aria While because of Lisa in her past life, but in this life she still had Aria as a friend—and still time to stop Aria from making any fatal mistakes. She would never let Aria face those scumbags alone again.
“Ella, why are you so late today? If you were one minute later, Ms. Lu would’ve definitely punished you for standing outside the classroom,” Aria said, handing Ella a bottle of water as she caught her breath after running.
“First you tell me—why wasn’t I at school yesterday? Why were you absent?” Ella asked, taking the water.
“Nothing. It’s just my biological parent’s daughter putting on a show again,” Aria replied, annoyed.
“I don’t get it, Aria. Why do you have to go back to your biological parents’ home? They don’t even love you—they only care about their adopted daughter.”
