"You don’t know, Ella. When they first came to our home, they both seemed very sincere, so my mom thought if I went with them, I could have a complete family. And at that time, somewhere in the corner of my heart, I also wanted a complete family.
So I agreed to go with them. But when I reached their home, besides my mother, father, and brother, there was a girl my age there too—and that girl was none other than Mia While, whose parents had adopted me when I went missing.
They had hidden this from me and my mother. At first, they were all very good to me, but later I realized they only found and accepted me because of an engagement. Hmm,” Aria paused for a moment before continuing.
“The other party is a playboy, and they don’t want their adopted daughter to marry a playboy—that’s why they accepted me,” Aria said, disappointment in her eyes.
“At first, I didn’t want to marry that person, but they threatened me with my mom. I had no choice but to agree with them.”
Aria’s eyes were red when she finished talking.
“But did you tell your mom about this?” Ella whispered, knowing that in their past life, when Aria had committed suicide, her adoptive mother had ruined the whole While family financially.
“No, I don’t want Mom to worry about all this. She’s already done a lot for me—I don’t want to trouble her now.”
“Aria, you should tell your mother. I’ve met Olivia—I know she’s very smart. She will surely know how to deal with this problem. You don’t have to face it all alone,” Ella said, grabbing Aria’s hand under the desk to give her some strength and then focusing on the lecture.
“I’ll think about it, Ella,” Aria whispered before focusing on the lecture.
During lunch in the cafeteria, Aria and Ella were eating when Mia came over with her group of friends.
“Aria, after school, Evan will come to pick you up, and you have to go with him.”
“Don’t you dare be smart, or Mom and Dad will be unhappy and won’t let you go easily like last time. So be smart, and don’t even think about disobeying,” Mia said to Aria like she was her servant.
“You don’t have to care about me, Mia. Instead, you should care about yourself, because I’m not going to marry Evan at any cost,” Aria said angrily. In the past, Mia only humiliated her at home, but now she dared to do it in front of the whole school. It was too much.
“You—just wait. I’ll tell Mom and Dad, and they’ll deal with you!” Mia pointed at Aria angrily and then stormed out of the cafeteria.
“This Mia is really too much. Not just her, the whole While family is too much. I’m clearly their biological daughter, but they treat me worse than a servant,” Aria said, hugging Ella.
“Do you still want to keep this to yourself, Aria? Listen to me and share this with your mom. Otherwise, when she sees you like this, her heart will ache. And you know, other than you, she doesn’t have anyone,” Ella said, comforting Aria.
“Sure, I’ll tell Mom. I want to meet her too. But I don’t know how to. You know, Ella, they keep a close eye on me every day. A driver picks me up and drops me at school and home. And today, Evan is coming to pick me up. Ella, what should I do?” Aria was very nervous.
“Stupid! Have you become dumb after going back to the While family? Can’t you just use my phone and call Aunt Nina to pick us up?” Ella said, handing her phone to Aria.
“Right, Ella! How could I be so stupid? I’ll ask Mom to pick us up now,” Aria said, calling her mother from Ella’s phone.
“Ella, my mom is coming in half an hour. Let’s go to class and pack our bags,” Aria said excitedly, dragging Ella along.
But it seemed like Ella’s bad luck was strong—they met Lisa Brown and Jackson Bell in the corridor.
They wanted to ignore them, but how could Lisa let that happen? She stood right in front of Ella with a pitiful face.
“Ella, I know there’s some misunderstanding between us. I wanted to clear it up yesterday, but you had already left,” Lisa said, looking pitiful.
“I ignored it yesterday. Didn’t you get it? I don’t want to talk to you guys. Why are you still following me?” Ella said impatiently.
“Ella, at least listen to me once. I promise after this, I won’t bother you again,” Jackson spoke up this time.
“Why are you guys so insistent? If Ella doesn’t want to talk to you, are you going to force her?” Aria stood in front of Ella and shouted at Lisa and Jackson.
“Aria, we’re not talking to you. Why do you want to interfere in other people’s matters?” Lisa snapped at Aria irritably.
“Aria, you go back to class. I’ll talk with them,” Ella said, pulling Aria back.
“But Ella, you—” Aria began hesitantly.
“Don’t worry about me. They can’t do anything to me. And if I don’t come back in fifteen minutes, just call the teacher and my brother—they’ll handle everything,” Ella said, reassuring Aria.
“Ella, you don’t have to be so guarded. We just want to talk. We’re not going to harm you,” Lisa said with a wronged expression.
“Right, Ella. We only want to talk to you. Nothing more, seriously,” Jackson added.
“Okay, let’s go,” Ella said, walking toward the school grounds.
As they were walking, Lisa’s phone suddenly rang.
“You guys go ahead to the ground. I’ll be there in five minutes. It’s an important call, so I have to take it,” she said.
