“I have some personal work that I have to do before evening,” Ella replied to Aria. Both of them ignored the mocking looks from their classmates.
When they reached the waiting room, Aria’s mom was already there. When she saw Aria, she stood up excitedly and hugged her with tears in her eyes.
“Okay, Mom, don’t cry anymore, or your eyes will hurt,” Aria wiped her mother’s tears while consoling her.
“You’re telling me not to cry while you yourself have tears in your eyes, hmm,” Olivia Murong said, rubbing Aria’s head.
“Hello, Aunty,” Ella politely greeted Olivia.
“Hello, child, how are you? You haven’t contacted us since Aria returned to her biological parents. Don’t you miss Auntie anymore?” Olivia complained, holding Ella’s hand.
“No, Aunty, how can I forget about you? I still remember the taste of those dumplings you made especially for me,” Ella said with a smile.
“Come home with Auntie. I’ll specially make fresh dumplings for you. Aria, let’s go. Mom will make dumplings for both of you,” Olivia said excitedly.
“Mom, not today. I have something I need to discuss with you, and Ella also has some personal work, so she has to go,” Aria said with a serious look.
Looking at Aria’s face, Olivia understood there must be something serious; otherwise, Aria wouldn’t have such a serious expression. She nodded before saying, “Okay, we can leave school now. I’ve already talked to your class teacher, and she gave permission.”
“Thank you, Aunty,” Ella said with a smile.
“It’s nothing, child. Tell me, where should I drop you?” Olivia asked, smiling.
“Mom, you bought a new car? You didn’t tell me,” Aria asked in surprise, but the smile vanished from her face the next second.
“But Mom, this car is very expensive. How do you have so much money to buy this car?” Aria asked with a tense expression. She still remembered when she was in primary school, her mother bought a new scooter just to send her to school but had to work very late at night to balance the monthly budget.
After that day, Aria never asked for anything from her mom so she wouldn’t have to work overtime. Now, looking at this new car, Aria was nervous.
“I’m coming to pick you up, so how could I come by bus? What would the other children think then?” Olivia said, rubbing her head.
“But Mom—”
“It’s okay, child. Let’s go. I’ll explain everything to you at home. Ella will come with Auntie,” Olivia said while opening the car door for them. Olivia knew Aria had some misunderstandings about her financial situation and decided to explain everything at home.
“No, Aunty, I’ve already called a taxi. It’ll be here in five minutes. You should go with Aria—she has something important to discuss with you,” Ella said, saying goodbye to Aria and her mom before heading to her destination.
Two minutes later, Ella’s cab arrived. “Please go to the Underground Arena,” Ella said with a cold face.
“Where?” the driver asked to confirm. That place was dangerous—even men were afraid to go there, let alone a woman, and now a schoolgirl in uniform was asking to be taken there.
“Underground Arena,” Ella repeated.
“Sure, sure.” After confirming the address, the driver nodded hurriedly and started the car.
Ella was lost in thought. If she wanted to protect her family, she had to become strong. Her past memories could help to some extent. By changing the car, her brother Charles could dodge the accident that happened in the past life, but this wouldn’t work every time.
“Hope she can find that person today. At least this way, she doesn’t have to worry about her family’s security,” Ella thought as she took out her phone and looked at a familiar name: Michael, the country’s best fighter who couldn’t participate in international competitions because of his sister’s accident. Now he was doing illegal fights to raise funds for her sister’s operation.
“Miss, we have reached the location,” the driver’s voice pulled Ella out of her thoughts.
“Thanks,” Ella said, paying the bill before heading toward the Underground Arena.
But she was stopped at the entrance. “Little one, are you alone here? This isn’t a place you should come to,” a man stopped her with good intentions. Ella was aware of the many eyes watching her.
