"He’s in the villa, he came home with me," Clara Jones answered Ella Smith.
"Okay, Mom, let’s go. Have you and Henry had dinner?" Ella grabbed her mom’s arm as they talked and walked into the villa together.
Confrontation. But when they reached outside the gate, loud voices could already be heard from inside. They hurriedly opened the door and went into the villa, where Charles Smith was arguing with Henry Smith over something.
"I already said you’re not going to City A tomorrow, and that’s final!" Charles shouted at Henry.
"I have a business meeting there, I have to go," Henry protested.
When Ella heard that Charles was stopping her brother from going to City A, she felt a bit relieved, thinking that maybe Charles knew about Ava Brown’s planned accident and was stopping Henry to avoid it.
But before she could think more, Charles’s next words shattered that hope.
"Don’t think I don’t know you’re going there mainly for investigation. I already said there’s no need for that, but both of you—mother and son—are going against me.
And this Clara—she actually transferred her shares to you to make you the president of the company. Since you’ve decided to go against me, don’t blame me for being heartless.
I’m warning both of you again, especially you, Henry. Don’t go against me. It won’t benefit you, and you’ll only put yourself in danger."
After saying that, Charles Smith stormed out of the villa in anger.
Ella stood frozen. Charles’s warning meant he knew about Ava Brown’s plan. Was he involved in the accident that happened in her past life? The one that left her brother in a coma for life? That accident… had been caused by their own father.
Her thoughts were a mess. She had always believed that everything that happened in her past life was the doing of that mother-daughter pair, but she never imagined Charles was directly involved too.
"How can he be so heartless? He’s threatening his own son just for that woman and her daughter," Clara cursed angrily.
"Mom, don’t worry. Nothing will change. Everything will go according to plan," Henry said, trying to calm Clara.
"Brother, are you really going to City A for the investigation?" Ella had a bad feeling.
"Exactly. Mom, I said I’m going to City A for business, but how did he know I’m going there to investigate? Only a few people know about the investigation, and he’s not one of them. This means there’s someone in our team who’s betrayed us."
This time, Henry didn’t even call him ‘father’, just used that for him.
"You’re right, Henry. We have to be careful. If this person can threaten his own blood, then he can do anything," Clara said with a worried tone.
"Right, brother. I’ve also had a bad feeling the last two days. And when you said you were going to City A this morning, I felt really uneasy. So I asked Alex Walker to lend you one of his best cars, and he also arranged a bodyguard for you. So, brother, you have to listen to me," Ella insisted seriously.
"Ella, there’s no need. I already have my own bodyguards, and they’re all very skilled. I’ll take them with me tomorrow. No need to bother Alex," Henry replied while gently rubbing Ella’s head.
"No, brother! You have to listen to me. You can’t say no, okay?" Ella pouted like a spoiled child.
"Okay, okay. I’ll listen, my little princess," Henry said helplessly.
"Brother, what time are you leaving tomorrow? Tell me so I can inform Alex," Ella asked, so she could notify bodyguard Michael.
"I’ll leave around 8 a.m.," Henry told her before heading to his study to prepare for the trip.
"Ella, you should go to your room too and get some rest. Your exam’s only a month away—you need to focus. Don’t worry about other things," Clara said while rubbing Ella’s head.
"Okay, Mom. You should rest too, it’s already so late." Ella hugged her mom once more before going upstairs.
The next morning, Ella got a call from Michael, telling her he was already outside the villa. She told the guard to let him in and wait in the living room.
After ending the call, Ella went to her brother’s room where he was getting ready. She knocked before entering.
"Brother, your bodyguard Mr. Michael is here. He’s waiting for you in the living room."
"Come here, help me with this tie," Henry said, handing her the tie. "You’re up early." They all knew Ella usually slept in.
"Brother, I’ve been waking up early for the past two weeks to study for the semester-end exams," Ella replied seriously—it was true.
"Oh wow, very good! Our Ella has grown up," Henry teased, rubbing her head.
After that, the brother and sister went downstairs, where Michael was already waiting.
When they came down, Michael stood up from his seat.
"Brother, this is Mr. Michael. He’ll be your bodyguard."
"Good morning, Mr. Smith, Miss Smith," Michael greeted them politely.
"Brother, you should have breakfast first. After that, you two can leave."
Ella could tell that Michael wanted to speak with her, so she sent her brother away first.
"Miss Smith, thank you for your help. My sister is now receiving treatment in the best hospital in the country," Michael said sincerely. His sister was everything to him. Other than her, he had no family in the world.
"No need to thank me, Mr. Michael. We made a deal—I’m just holding up my end. My brother will leave in fifteen minutes. I trust you’ll protect him," Ella said with a serious expression.
