"You’ll get your investment for your experiment," Alex Walker replied while going back to his work.
"You—I don’t care about the investment! How could you just take some drug? Do you not love yourself anymore?"
James was fuming with anger when he saw that Alex Walker had taken the drug. No matter how harmless a drug is, it's still bad for the body.
"Okay, I take back my investment," Alex replied calmly, not even lifting his head from the documents.
"Hey, no! Who said I don’t want the investment?! Brother, you promised to invest—now you can’t just go back on your word!"
James shamelessly changed his tone. Alex had already taken the drug, so why would he sacrifice his investment? It’s not like the drug would pop back out of Alex’s mouth if he gave up the deal. Might as well be smart and grab the investment.
"But Second Brother, why do you want to get a fever?"
This still made no sense to James—why would Alex risk his health on purpose?
"You’ll know soon. Just go along with the situation when the time comes. If you mess anything up, your investment’s canceled."
Alex Walker spoke in a mysterious tone—he still needed James's help for his plan.
"Second, just say it. I’ll do whatever you want—but you can’t cancel my investment! You already gave it to me. It doesn’t look good when the heir of the Walker Empire takes back something he’s already given," James said righteously.
On the other side, when school was over, Aria While and Ella Smith were leaving class when they were stopped by Mia While and her friends.
"Where were you yesterday? Evan was waiting for you after school, but you didn’t show up—nor did you come home! Where did you spend the whole night?"
Mia asked loudly, making sure all the students around them heard. Everyone started glancing at Aria with strange eyes.
"You don’t have to assume everyone’s like you. I went to my mom’s house yesterday, and I’ll be living with her from now on. You can pass that on to the While family," Aria said, annoyed.
After saying that, she tried to walk away. But how could Mia let her go so easily? She quickly blocked her way.
"You can’t just move out on your own! You’re the While family's adopted daughter—you have to return home!"
Mia’s voice trembled. She was afraid. If Aria really left the While family, her father would probably force her to marry Evan—and she didn't want Evan.
She had been planning to use Lisa Brown to break the engagement between Ella Smith and Alex Walker. Once the engagement broke, Lisa would be out of the picture, and the While family could easily control a girl without a strong background. But if Aria left, her whole plan would collapse. She couldn’t let that happen. No matter what, Aria had to marry Evan.
"Like you said, I’m just an adopted daughter of the While family, so it’s natural for me to return to my mom.
You were raised by the While family for years—so how could I take what’s yours?
The engagement between the While and Gu families belongs to you. Enjoy it,"
Aria said, then pushed Mia aside and pulled Ella with her toward the school gate.
Mia had always claimed that Aria was just an adopted girl the While family had taken in out of pity.
Now seeing her actually walk out of the school, Mia panicked and ran after her. She couldn’t let Aria escape. The Gu family was coming over that day to take Aria with them.
If Aria weren’t there, they’d probably turn to Mia instead.
"Aria, you have to return home! Mom and Dad are worried about you!"
Mia rushed ahead and stood in front of Aria. She grabbed her wrist, but just as she tried to drag Aria back, a strong force pulled them apart.
Mia's hand throbbed in pain—the person had used a lot of strength.
Mia turned around angrily to scold whoever it was, but when she saw who it was, she took two steps back.
“Wh-who is he?” Mia stammered.
"He’s my bodyguard. Mom appointed him to protect me. She was afraid for my safety, so she hired people to watch over me.
So next time, think twice before you touch me," Aria said with a challenging smirk.
Seeing Aria’s childlike but bold behavior, Ella couldn’t help but laugh.
But to Mia, that laugh was like fuel to her fire. Her anger exploded even more.
"You’ve gotten bold, huh? You think you’ve grown wings now? Just wait—Mom and Dad will deal with you!"
With that, Mia stormed off in fury.
"Aria, you really have to be careful. I don’t think the While family is going to let this go easily. You should go home and tell everything to Olivia."
Ella reminded her gently.
"Hmm... I know they won’t stay quiet. I messed with their benefits by saving myself—of course, they can’t stay calm,"
Aria replied, fully aware of the seriousness of the situation.
"Alright, now you should go. Your ‘FIANCÉ’ is waiting to pick you up," Aria teased, putting extra emphasis on fiancé, still remembering how Alex Walker acted so possessively over Ella.
"Okay. You too—go home safely," Ella said before running off in the direction where Alex Walker’s car was already waiting for her.
When Ella opened the door, she saw Alex Walker’s haggard face, and immediately, she felt tense
