After chatting with her mother, Ella Smith picked up her phone and walked to Alex Walker’s room. She had some questions she needed help with, but she was afraid to disturb his rest, so she hesitated before entering.
“Why did you take so long?” the moment Ella opened the door, Alex asked in a hurry.
“Ohh, I was talking with my mom,” Ella replied, placing her notebook on the table. Behind it was a sofa where she sat to study quietly—she didn’t want to disturb Alex.
Unaware of how much effort was going into this, Alex watched her with a bit of bittersweet pride. He’d moved to one side of the bed so Ella would have space—inside, he was glad they were sharing this quiet moment together. But he wanted more. Noticing Ella’s troubled expression, he got up and walked to the sofa.
Ella sensed someone behind her. She turned and saw Alex sitting where she’d been, not quite sure when she’d ended up on the carpet while studying. “Brother Alex, why are you here? You should be resting,” Ella said, concerned.
“I’m fine now—and my headache’s gone—so I came to help you with your studies. Tell me, what are you having trouble with?” Alex asked in a caring tone.
“This, this, this—and this one,” Ella pointed at several math problems.
“...”
Alex took her notebook and frowned. He remembered Ella had always struggled with math. Looking through it, he was speechless—she’d gotten most of the answers wrong, and the rest she was unsure of. He realized he’d have to teach her the whole chapter.
“Let’s start from the beginning, with the basic concepts,” Alex said, bending forward to explain—but in doing so, he leaned over and gently embraced Ella, who was on the carpet.
Ella’s face heated in that close, intimate moment. She forced herself to focus on the math lesson, even though she couldn’t see Alex’s soft smile and patient expression. He taught seriously and kindly.
After two hours, they finally finished all the questions. For Ella, it felt like a mission accomplished. She leaned back on the sofa—forgetting Alex was sitting behind her—and her head fell into his lap instead of resting on the sofa. The sudden contact made both their bodies stiffen. Alex’s breathing quickened, and he felt a wave of heat.
Ella pulled her head back and ran out of the room, both of their faces burning. She shyly covered her face with her hands.
Unknowingly, she’d begun behaving like a teenage girl in first love. After calming down, she realized she’d forgotten to ask where she would sleep that night.
Taking a deep breath, Ella returned to Alex’s room. He’d calmed down too, sitting quietly, waiting.
“Brother Alex, where am I going to stay tonight?” she asked, trying to make things normal.
“The room next to this one is yours. It’s already set up, and anything missing we can shop for tomorrow,” Alex replied in his calm, deep voice.
“Okay,” Ella said, then hurriedly left—forgetting her books on Alex’s coffee table.
On that floor, only two rooms existed: one for Alex, and one prepared for his Ella. She was deeply touched by his thoughtfulness—and had no idea what other surprises were waiting.
When Ella opened her door, she was stunned. Her room was twice as big as Alex’s. In the center stood a massive bed big enough for six or seven people. It was draped with beautiful veils and topped with an even more beautiful hanging hammock—something straight from a dream.
The whole room was designed like a princess’s chamber, full of elegant, cheerful colors. Ella felt as if she were living in her very own fairy tale.
Her heart melted at the sight. This was her room in Starry Villa—and the best one in the entire house.
She walked to a glass door on the right and opened it—revealing a large walk-in closet lined with trendy evening gowns. Ella carefully examined the dresses and suddenly spotted four unique gowns—all one-of-a-kind. Brother Alex had bought them just for her. Overcome, she tried to hold back tears, but they flowed anyway.
