“Then when will he be free? Did you tell him that I’m waiting here for him?” Nancy asked the nurse arrogantly. She had come late to the hospital on purpose, knowing that James had an apartment nearby. She was hoping to use the excuse of it being too late and unsafe to go home alone, so she could go to James’s apartment with him.
Once she was alone with James in his place, she had plenty of ways in mind to make James take responsibility for her. But even after waiting for over an hour, she still hadn’t seen James.
“Tell him that I’m waiting in his cabin,” Nancy said, taking a deep breath.
“Sure, Miss Nancy,” the nurse replied politely. While Nancy was lost in her thoughts, the nurse carefully hid James’s phone and wallet between some documents. She had already taken them out silently and, after completing her mission, quickly left the cabin with a barely hidden smile.
“Here.”
“Here!” James called softly, stopping the nurse who was heading in the opposite direction to look for him.
“Dr. James, you’re here. Mission complete! Here’s your wallet and mobile,” the nurse said sweetly, looking at James with expectant eyes.
James was no stranger to that kind of look. He praised the nurse with flattering words for a full two minutes before leaving the hospital.
But just as he was about to start the car, his phone rang. Seeing that it was Ella Smith, James picked up the call—only because he was scared of Alex Walker.
“Hello, Dr. James, sorry to bother you, but I have a question,” Ella said politely.
“Sure, go ahead, Miss Smith,” James answered with a teasing tone.
Ella’s face turned red when she heard James call her “Miss Smith,” especially since Brother Alex was sitting right in front of her. If she responded to the teasing, Alex would know how James was addressing her. She had no idea how she’d face Brother Alex after that, so she decided to ignore James’s tone.
“Ahh, Dr. James, I wanted to ask... is it okay for Brother Alex to go outside? Is it good for his health?” she asked, finally stating the real reason for the call.
“Hnn?”
“I said that?” James muttered to himself, confused.
“You didn’t say that?” Ella asked back, also confused.
“Yes, yes, I did say that,” James quickly recovered and answered.
“So, Dr. James, Brother Alex can go out?” Ella asked again, needing confirmation. She didn’t want to take any risk with Alex’s health.
“Yes, yes. Miss Ella’s second brother can go outside and relax. In fact, I suggest he take a short vacation and enjoy himself during this time,” James said in a serious voice, though he was smiling evilly.
“Hnn… is it really okay? It won’t affect Brother Alex’s health?” Ella asked again, uncertain.
“No, no! Don’t you remember why my second brother fell sick in the first place? It’s because he overworked himself. So now, resting and enjoying himself is the main medicine,” James said, lying effortlessly.
“Huh, okay,” Ella began to reply, but before she could finish, the phone was suddenly snatched from her. She turned, startled, and looked at Alex Walker with a confused expression.
“It’s getting late. You should sleep now,” Alex said with a straight face, then cut the call without giving James any face. He had been watching them talk for the past two minutes. Ella was chatting with James and not paying him any attention at all.
Jealousy completely clouded his mind, making him forget that Ella was talking to James about him and his health.
“Huh... okay then. Goodnight, Brother Alex. We’ll go shopping tomorrow,” Ella said dazedly. She still didn’t understand what just happened and, in a daze, walked back to her room.
The next morning, in the apartment, Aria While was behaving like a spoiled kid with Olivia.
“Mom, do you have to go?” she asked, pouting.
“Jue Jue, act like an adult. You’re already grown up, but you’re still this clingy,” Olivia said while rubbing her daughter’s head.
“But Mom, do you really have to be gone for long? I just got back, and we haven’t even spent much time together,” Aria said in a sad tone. She didn’t want to be away from her mother now.
“Jue Jue’s mom will be back in a week, so don’t worry. If you get bored alone at home, invite Ella over. You two can study together. Here, take this card—you can buy anything you want for yourself,” Olivia said, handing her a bank card.
Aria suddenly had an idea. She could spend time with Ella and have a girls’ night out with no restrictions. Her eyes lit up with excitement, and she agreed to her mother’s plan right away.
“But Mom, tell me something. I’ve been back for three days and haven’t seen Uncle Ethan yet. Where is he? Why hasn’t he come to see me?” Aria asked suddenly.
Olivia’s hand froze when she heard Ethan’s name. She quickly suppressed her emotions and replied, “He must be busy with work. That’s why he hasn’t contacted you.”
“You don’t need to think about it anymore. Finish your breakfast first,” Olivia added in a strict tone.
“But Mom, I miss Uncle Ethan. Do you have his number? Give it to me,” Aria asked, pouting in a cute way.
Shaking her head helplessly at her daughter’s spoiled behavior, Olivia finally sent Ethan’s number to her.
Just like Aria’s family, the villa was also full of laughter—thanks to Ella Smith.
Today, Ella woke up early to make homemade noodles and porridge for Alex Walker. But somehow, she managed to blow up the kitchen. She ended up covered in flour from head to toe. Everyone who had been frightened by the sound of the small explosion was now laughing hard at her hilarious appearance.
