"Okay, okay, give me some time, I’ll find out about him. But now that my work has increased, the pay amount should also increase. We’ll meet at the same place this evening," Leo said with a cheeky smile on his face.
"You—" Ava Brown's anger rose at Leo’s condition.
"You can decide not to come, but then I won't guarantee if I can complete your task or not," Leo said evilly.
"You... okay, let's meet then at the decided place," Ava said, gritting her teeth and cutting the call in anger.
"Nothing is going right. What kind of luck am I stuck with now? Ella Smith and Clara Jones are getting out of control and going against us again and again, and Henry Smith—God knows why he's become so hard to crack. First, he safely left the capital and ruined the plan, and now there's no news about him.
And that Alex Walker… I don’t know what’s wrong with him. That b*tch Ella treats him so badly, yet he still keeps going after her. What kind of spell has that girl cast on him that he can’t see my daughter’s worth?" Lisa Brown muttered to herself in anger.
She couldn’t let this continue. She had to do something, and fast. First, she needed to meet Ella and make her obedient again — if she and Lisa could control Ella, they could control others through her. Now that Ella had a good relationship with Alex Walker, Lisa could benefit from that and use it as a way to get close to Alex. Ava Brown had already planned all this clearly in her mind.
In the kitchen of the same villa, Lisa was ordering the maids while stirring the vegetables. Currently, she was short of money because of Ella Smith, and now she had to ask her father for some. So, she decided to flatter him first, hoping he’d give her a good amount.
She came into the kitchen to “prepare” breakfast. In reality, she wasn’t cooking herself, but was directing everything while the maids worked under her supervision. That’s pretty much the same as cooking herself, right? People should look at the heart, not the materialistic effort.
When Ava Brown came into the kitchen to tell the servants the breakfast menu, she was shocked to see Lisa working and her eyes turned red.
Her daughter and Ella were both daughters of the Smith family, but why was her own child working hard early in the morning while Clara Jones' daughter had maids doing everything?
Wiping her tears, she walked into the kitchen and asked in a soft, almost immortal voice, “Lisa, why are you cooking so early in the morning?”
“Huh? Mom, I’m cooking for Dad and you. But Mom, I have something urgent to talk to you about,” Lisa said quickly when she saw her mother.
“Okay, come with Mom outside. Then we’ll talk.”
"You, come here. Finish the breakfast and place it on the dining table,” Ava ordered one of the maids while taking Lisa out of the kitchen. She already knew Lisa had something to say that couldn’t be discussed in front of others — and she herself had something to talk to Lisa about too.
“Okay, talk now,” Ava said, taking Lisa into the same room where she had earlier spoken to Leo.
“Mom, what do I do now? Jackson Bell’s already been arrested, and Ella doesn’t trust me anymore. Then how am I supposed to get close to Brother Alex?” Lisa asked in one breath.
“Calm down, Lisa. Mom already thought about this,” Ava said, comforting her.
“Really, Mom? Tell me, what should I do to make Ella listen to me like before and keep her away from Brother Alex?” Lisa asked excitedly.
“Mom will invite Ella for lunch in a few days and sweet-talk her like the old times. I don’t believe she’ll dare ignore me. She always listened to me in the past whenever I asked for something,” Ava said with an evil smile.
Lisa’s eyes lit up when she heard her mother’s words. She clearly remembered how Ella always acted like an obedient puppy in front of her mom. She didn’t believe that girl had the guts to go against Ava, no matter how much she had changed.
“Here, Lisa, take this card. There’s two million on it. Buy something for Ella. It doesn’t have to be expensive,” Ava said, handing the card to Lisa.
“But Mom, why do I have to buy something for her? She already has everything and is doing way better than me,” Lisa pouted in frustration.
“No, Lisa. You have to buy something nice for Ella. Always remember — to catch a fish, we need to use the right bait,” Ava said calmly, teaching her daughter.
“Okay, Mom,” Lisa agreed at last, still pouting but with determination on her face.
“Alright, let’s go. Your father must be coming downstairs for breakfast any minute now. Talk sweetly with him, and he’ll reward you,” Ava said, rubbing Lisa’s head as they walked out of the room.
Lisa also quickly walked out and carried the last dish from the kitchen to the dining room. At the same time, Charles Smith came downstairs and smiled when he saw the warm scene of Ava and Lisa preparing breakfast. It gave him a sense of family warmth — something Clara Jones and her children never gave him.
But he forgot that he never truly cherished them either. He had never given Ella and Henry the fatherly love they deserved. Like other kids, they never had a dad who took them to amusement parks… or even lifted them in his arms.
