At that time, she asked Charles Smith why he was so busy that he didn’t even have time to come home and spend time with his family.
He said with an annoyed expression that he had a lot of things to do, so he didn’t have time. She knew Charles wasn’t telling the truth, but she believed him at that time, so she didn’t argue with him. After that, he came home very rarely and stayed on business trips most of the time.
After some time, Ava Brown returned to the country with a baby in her stomach. When the family asked her about the father of child, she said that she didn’t want to be with the child’s father because she had some difficulties.
Her parents tried very hard to get her married. They even found a very good family for her, one that didn’t have any problem with the child Ava was carrying, but she didn’t listen to anyone.
After some time, Ava Brown came to Clara Jones’s home with the excuse of giving Clara company, since both of them were pregnant, they could spend time together and take care of each other.
At first, Clara wasn’t in support of this arrangement, but later, Charles also said to let Ava stay at their home. So she finally agreed.
After that day, Charles also started coming home every day after work. Clara thought that maybe Charles was changing because of the children, but she didn’t know that her husband and her sister were cheating on her.
She didn’t know that Charles wasn’t coming home daily because of her or the children. He was returning because of Ava Brown and the child she was carrying.
At the time of their delivery, Charles wasn’t with Clara. He said he was in a meeting. Even after the delivery, he only came to the hospital once to see Ella Smith and Clara. After that, he didn’t visit the hospital again.
But when it was Ava Brown’s delivery week, he was with her. He said it was their responsibility to take care of her since she had stayed at their home during her pregnancy. He stayed at the hospital for two whole days.
Even after the delivery, he wanted to bring Ava and her daughter, Lisa Brown, to their home—but Clara’s parents and Ella’s grandparents didn’t agree with it. So in the end, he couldn’t bring them home.
After that, Charles didn’t go abroad like he used to, and Ava Brown also joined the Smith Empire as an ordinary employee and later became Charles Smith’s secretary.
Even then, Clara didn’t have any doubts about them because she trusted Charles and Ava.
As time passed, Clara started noticing Lisa Brown’s features becoming very similar to Charles Smith’s. That’s when she felt something was wrong. She began observing both Charles and Ava more closely.
The bond between them felt unnatural, and she became even more uneasy. That’s when she properly started investigating both Charles and Ava, and also the company.
That’s when she found out Charles was secretly transferring funds to Lisa Brown’s foreign account.
Today, Clara has collected all the evidence against Charles Smith and Ava Brown, but she can’t take any action against them now. She needs to recover all the funds first, and more importantly, she wants to wait for Ella to get better.
But she had to warn Ella to stay away from Lisa Brown. Because Lisa knows that Charles and Ava have been cheating, yet she never said anything, not since childhood until now.
And Clara knows Ava had a hand in what happened to Ella, but she doesn’t have proof.
When Clara finishes reading and watching all the evidence, it’s already evening and time for Ella’s medicine.
She wakes up Ella and feeds her some food before giving her the medicine.
Ella can see the pain in her mother’s eyes. It’s different from yesterday. When she was hurt, her mother was also in pain, but not like today.
Today, her eyes show a hurt expression, and she seems lost many times while feeding Ella food and giving her medicine.
“Mom, what happened? Why are you sad?” Ella asks directly.
“Nothing, Ella, but you should stay away from Lisa Brown. I know she’s your friend and cousin, and you both grew up together, but I feel uneasy when you’re with her.
Stay away from her, and don’t go to Lisa’s house, even if Ava asks you to. Okay?”
“I promise, Mom. But you tell me what happened. Why are you so sad?” Ella asks again.
“When a child is hurt, a mother feels pain too. Now stop asking and wait here. I’ll call your brother and ask where he is.
It’s already late—why isn’t he here yet?”
With that, Clara changes the topic and walks out of the ward to avoid Ella’s question.
Ella knows that her mother is sad for a reason, but she can’t figure out why.
Seeing that her mother is changing the topic, Ella doesn’t push the question any further either.
