After a while, Clara Jones returned to the ward.
“Your brother will be here in five minutes. Let’s wait for him. I have something to talk about with you two,” Clara said, looking at Ella Smith.
When Henry Smith came, it was the first time after Ella’s accident that they saw each other. Henry was still angry with her. He didn’t say anything to her and took all her health reports to the doctor before coming to her ward.
Looking at Henry, who still wasn’t talking to her, Ella said with red, puppy eyes,
“Brother, are you still angry with me? Are you really not going to forgive me?”
“Do you even know your mistake?” Henry asked harshly.
“I know… I should have listened to you and Mom… and stayed away from Ava Brown and Jackson Bell,” Ella admitted her mistake with her head lowered.
“And?” Henry asked again.
“I shouldn’t have jumped from the bridge to force you all…” Ella started crying while saying it.
Looking at his younger sister, who was crying like a puppy, with casts on her hands and legs, looking so pitiful, Henry couldn’t stay angry with her anymore.
While wiping her tears, he said, “Okay, I know you realize your mistake now. Don’t cry, otherwise people will think I’m bullying you.”
“Okay,” Ella said with a hidden smile. She knew her tears would always work on her brother.
“Both of you done playing with each other?” their mother asked, looking at them—one crying, the other wiping her tears. She shook her head helplessly.
“How was your meeting, Henry?” Clara asked her son.
“It was good. All the directors are in my favor, and an investigation will start tomorrow regarding the missing company funds,” Henry said, reassuring his mother.
“Good. Now we don’t have to worry. Some people may try to stop the investigation, but by then it’ll be too late, and the funds will be returned to the company,” Clara said, thinking about Charles Smith and Ava Brown, who had been in New York for the last four days—just before Ella’s accident—and hadn’t returned, even after knowing she was hurt.
“Yes,” both of them nodded to their mother.
“Okay, I have something to talk about with both of you now. Sit down. There are going to be some changes at home and in the company. When Smith Empire was just starting, fifty percent of it was invested by my father, and he gave it to me as dowry at the time of my wedding.”
“Okay, Mom, but why are you telling me all this?” Ella asked. She already had a feeling that her mom and brother knew the truth, but she wanted to be sure.
“Ella, you’ve grown up now, and Henry has also entered the company and is doing well. I have twenty-five percent of the company shares. Your brother has fifteen—five percent from his maternal grandparents and ten percent from his paternal grandparents. Ella, you have five percent of shares in your name right now.
Altogether, we hold fifty-five percent. Your grandparents have five, so that makes it sixty in total. Your father currently holds fifteen percent. The board of directors owns twenty-five percent, and the person who holds the remaining ten percent is still unknown.”
“Henry, I’m going to transfer twenty percent of my shares to you. That means you’ll have thirty-five percent in your name, and you’re going to take over the company.”
“Okay, Mom,” Henry answered seriously.
Ella now had confirmation that her mother and brother knew the truth. But if they didn’t want to tell her yet, she wouldn’t ask.
“Mother, I’m hungry,” Ella said, changing the topic.
“Nina is coming with food in a few minutes. Henry, go wash your hands and come eat with us. And Ella—stay away from Ava in the future. Don’t believe in her,” Clara said in a serious and firm tone, reminding her again.
At first, she didn’t want to take any steps because of Ella’s condition. But now Ella had become more aware—she could understand the situation. That’s why Clara had decided to act now.
At that moment, the ward door opened, and a man came in—the one who had said he would take proper rest this evening.
“Brother Alex, why are you here? Didn’t you say you were going to rest today?” Ella asked in a surprised and loud voice.
“You’re not that happy to see me, huh?” a jealous voice came from Henry, who was glaring at Alex Walker standing at the ward door.
“Brother, I’m also very happy when you come,” Ella said seriously.
“Really? But I don’t feel your sincerity,” Henry teased.
“Stop now, both of you. Alex, go wash your hands. Nina is coming with food—come and have dinner with us,” Clara said.
She already knew Alex would come, even though he said he wouldn’t, so she had asked Nina to prepare an extra portion of dinner.
