The three exchanged glances before breaking into indulgent smiles, clearly treating her rejection as childish tantrum.
"How about this," Damien suddenly leaned forward. "Stella, it's such a nice day—why don't we hit the stables?"
Stella shook her head coldly: "I don't want to."
"Come on," Preston coaxed. "Fresh air will help you heal."
Marcus just pulled her toward the car: "Let's go."
The Royal Stables stretched green under blue skies, the breeze carrying grass scents, but Stella only felt bone-deep cold.
"Stella, pick a horse to ride," Preston handed her a helmet. "We'll grab some refreshments."
Stella numbly accepted it, randomly choosing a gentle mare.
Right now, she just wanted distance from these suffocating people, even for a moment of peace.
The horse trotted along, wind brushing her face, and Stella finally felt momentarily free from all the bullshit.
But just as she relaxed, chaos erupted in the distance.
"NEIGH—"
Over a hundred horses charged from nowhere, stampeding straight toward her.
Stella frantically yanked the reins, but it was too late.
She desperately pulled at the leather straps, but her spooked horse wouldn't listen.
In the chaos, she was thrown from the saddle and hit the ground hard.
"AH!"
When the first hoof struck her leg, Stella heard her bone crack.
Then came the second, the third...
Stella curled up on the grass as blood gradually stained the green beneath her. Before losing consciousness, she dimly saw three figures in the distance, coldly watching it all unfold.
When she woke up again, harsh white light made her squint instinctively. Her body was wrapped in bandages like a mummy, and the slightest movement brought excruciating pain.
Outside the door, Chase's cold voice drifted in: "...You guys went too far."
Stella held her breath.
"I just wanted her to give Sophia some blood. You guys not only bribed caregivers to torture her but deliberately released a hundred horses to trample her," Chase's tone was icy. "Now she's got compound fractures all over. She almost didn't make it."
"She had it coming for bullying Sophia," Damien's voice was chillingly casual. "Just a little lesson."
"Playing lovesick every day makes me sick," Marcus's words cut like poisoned knives into Stella's heart. "If it wasn't for Sophia, who'd wanna play house with her?"
Stella bit her lip until she tasted blood.
So those "accidental" burns, the IV backups, even this carefully orchestrated "accident"—all revenge for Sophia.
She didn't understand.
Even if they didn't love her, they'd grown up together as childhood friends.
They used to pat her head and call her "little Stella," stayed by her bedside all night when she was sick, spent ages planning birthday surprises...
But now, for a girl they'd known just months, they'd hurt her beyond recognition.
She wanted to burst out and demand answers, wanted to cry and scream, but waves of agony crashed over her as she lost consciousness again.
When she woke up again, the room was empty except for her glowing phone showing three unread messages.
[Stella, sorry we couldn't protect you. We're too ashamed to face you, so we flew overseas to buy you gifts as compensation.]
[Rest up and wait for us to come back.]
[Tell us what you want and we'll definitely bring it back.]
Stella numbly set down her phone, too drained even for pain.
She didn't want to see them or hear any more fake concern. She just wanted to lie in the hospital bed and heal.
But that day, the hospital room door suddenly opened.
