Sophia strutted in wearing heels, her makeup flawless and complexion rosy—a stark contrast to the bandage-wrapped Stella.
"Heard you got hurt pretty bad," her sweet voice dripped with undisguised malice. "These past few days Chase has been taking care of me 24/7, personally feeding me, coaxing me to sleep..."
She tilted her head with fake innocence: "While you're lying here with nobody even visiting. So pitiful."
Stella turned away, not wanting to look at her.
"Need my help?" Sophia suddenly reached out, pressing hard on Stella's fractured leg.
"AH!" The pain made Stella shove her away instinctively.
Sophia stumbled backward and hit the floor hard, looking shocked: "You actually dare push me?"
She stood up, brushing dust off her skirt, then snarled: "Chase treats me like his precious treasure, and you still dare treat me like this?!"
"Fine. Just you wait."
With that, she glared daggers at Stella before storming out.
Stella's heart sank with a terrible premonition.
Sure enough, less than ten minutes later, Chase kicked the door open.
"Stella!" His eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed her throat. "Sophia came to visit you out of kindness and you got thugs to assault her?!"
Stella's pupils dilated: "I didn't..."
"Still lying! If I hadn't gotten there in time, she would've been..." He took a shaky breath, his eyes cold as polar ice. "I know you like me, but I've told you countless times—I don't like you. If you destroy Sophia, I won't just not love you, I'll hate you forever."
Stella coughed violently, tears blurring her vision: "I really... didn't..."
"Oh really?" Chase suddenly smiled, but it was bone-chilling. "Since you won't admit it, I'll give you a taste of your own medicine."
He clapped his hands as five burly men filed in.
Stella's pupils contracted: "Chase! What are you doing?!"
"What do you think?" Chase looked at her coldly. "You hurt Sophia, so you pay the price."
Stella struggled to get out of bed despite her full-body fractures: "Are you insane? Touch me and you'll destroy both families' partnership!"
"For Sophia, I'd go to war with the Whitmores." Chase turned to leave. "Enjoy yourselves."
Stella screamed in despair: "Chase! Are you really this heartless?!"
Chase paused, looking back: "I'll give you one chance. Promise you won't pick me at your birthday party and I'll let this slide."
"I was never gonna pick you anyway!" Stella's voice was hoarse. "I wouldn't choose you if you were the last man alive!"
Chase's face darkened: "Won't pick me? You think I'd believe that?"
He sneered. "You've followed me around since childhood, loved me for years. Since you're so stubborn, don't blame me for being ruthless."
As the door closed, the five men closed in.
Stella shut her eyes in despair, hearing fabric tear...
