"What are you guys arguing about?" Henry walked downstairs and just happened to hear Arielle's words, so he asked out loud.
Seeing Henry, Meredith gained some courage and quickly recounted what had happened.
After listening to her, Henry frowned, thinking, 'At least she's a member of the Bradford family. If others found out she dressed so poorly, they'd think I was mistreating my daughter.'
"Arielle, throw away all the clothes you brought from the countryside!" Henry ordered, his voice carrying a hint of anger.
Arielle raised an eyebrow, thinking this family was too ridiculous.
Openly or covertly, they criticized her for dressing poorly and tarnishing their image.
She laughed sarcastically. "You guys are really funny. You talk without understanding my situation. If I throw these clothes away, what will I wear?"
Sensing the sarcasm in her words, Henry asked confusedly, "What do you mean?"
Arielle looked at Meredith. "You dress your foster daughter in gold and silver every day, while I've been back for days, has anyone bought me any clothes?
"I'm still a minor; it's up to my guardian to take care of me. Knowing how poorly I'm dressed, Meredith flaunts her better clothing in front of me every day. If you don't have time, why don't you just give me money so I can buy my own clothes..."
Before Arielle finished speaking, tears filled Meredith's eyes as she shook her head in sorrow. "Dad, I didn't."
"Arielle, stop making things up! Don't accuse your sister of showing off in front of you!" Sharon, no longer weak as before, lashed out with a burst of energy.
Arielle smirked sarcastically and spoke in a sour tone. "Do you have no idea if this is true or not? The Bradford family is at least a big clan in Theoria.
"A biological daughter lost for years has finally returned; this is how she's treated?
"People might think your foster daughter is actually your biological child. And I'm just a poor relative living under someone else's roof."
Henry felt embarrassed by what Arielle said.
'Did I need to save on her expenses? It was Sharon who hadn't thought things through properly. And Meredith, she actually showed off secretly in front of her...' he complained inwardly.
Arielle knew exactly what he was thinking.
If word got out that the Bradford family favored their foster daughter over their biological daughter, it would be a scandal.
For Henry, he could do without family or love, but never without personal gain. In matters of benefit, everyone must step aside.
When Henry looked at Arielle again, the coldness from before was gone, and his gaze had softened. "I'm sorry for putting you through this."
Then, when his gaze swept over Meredith, it darkened even more.
Meredith felt a bit intimidated by his gaze.
Her red-rimmed eyes met his. And she choked out her defense, "Dad, I really didn't. I just wanted to take Arielle to meet new friends..."
She was intentionally making Arielle embarrassed today, but didn't expect that bitch's mouth to be so sharp.
She was seething inside at Arielle, but didn't show it on her face. Instead, tears of grievance rolled down her cheeks.
When looking at Arielle, she even shrank back, making people think that Arielle had bullied her.
Sharon's face filled with concern as she pulled Meredith into an embrace and gently wiped away the tears at the corners of Meredith's eyes.
"Meredith is well-intentioned. How would she know that Arielle doesn't have a dress and decides not to go at the last minute?" she said.
'My precious daughter has never suffered such grievances before and was even blamed by the father she respects most. She must be heartbroken,' she thought.
Arielle suddenly clapped her hands. "Good! Very good!
"Are you my mom or hers?
"Why do you always defend her and criticize me?
"Mrs. Bradford, please recognize your position. I'm still alive!"
"What nonsense are you talking about? Of course, I'm your mom. I'm just stating facts without favoring anyone." Sharon's face twisted in fury as Arielle's words struck a nerve.
'Look at that. This is the mother who carried me for ten months and gave birth to me. No wonder she abandoned me when I was three.
'Is there really a mother who hates their own child? At least it happened to me,' Arielle said inwardly.
Back then, when she was only three, her mother shouted at her to die, die far away and never come back.
She thought that a three-year-old would forget these things. Not talking about them didn't mean she knew nothing about them.
For those vague memories from the age of three in her previous life, she only blamed herself.
She thought she must have done something wrong to make her mom unhappy, so her mom said those words.
Unfortunately, regarding this memory, all she remembered was this one sentence.
As for what exactly happened then, she had no idea.
In Sharon's eyes, Meredith was the perfect daughter. Only Meredith deserved to be called her daughter.
She would defend Meredith again and again. Meredith could fart and it would still smell like roses to her. Meanwhile, whatever Arielle said or did was wrong in her eyes.
Such a family had already hurt her badly in a previous life.
Her enduring for peace became an excuse for them to trample on her dignity.
With every tear shed by Meredith, she became known as an evil sister, and everyone disliked her.
Her parents hated her; her fiancé stabbed her back.
Worse, her most trusted friend turned against her at the last moment, testifying against her in court.
And Meredith just stood by, watching Arielle's life fall apart.
She didn't even have to lift a finger. Everyone around her just orbited her like planets.
Countless men threw themselves at her feet, willing to do anything for her.
Sharon kept comforting Meredith, glaring coldly at Arielle. "Stop with the snide remarks, and don't ruin family harmony."
Arielle just found it laughable, pathetic.
She calmly looked at Sharon. Her heart felt nothing. 'I might as well consider myself unlucky for ending up in her womb and becoming her daughter.' she thought.,
"Enough already!" Henry barked at that moment. "This afternoon, I'll have my secretary set up a card for you. Buy whatever you like. Don't hold back.
"When you go out, take some bodyguards. If you see something you like, just buy it."
Arielle nodded. "Got it. I won't hold back."
Henry also felt a headache coming on. He was busy running his company every day, yet here he was, dealing with a bunch of women over trivial matters.
Sharon hugged the teary-eyed Meredith, standing opposite Arielle.
The maids, including Lexi, kept their distance, not daring to show themselves.
Arielle felt great, shuffling upstairs in her slippers.
Just as she reached the top, she turned back with a meaningful smile at Meredith.
Seeing her back disappearing upstairs, Meredith was so furious she wanted to rush up and tear her mouth apart. 'Too hateful! I'd been outplayed.'
Sharon's anger shot straight to her head, and she was ready to chase up and teach this ungrateful daughter a lesson.
But Meredith grabbed her, shaking her head. "Mom, don't. Arielle didn't mean it."
Inwardly, she wished her mom would beat Arielle up.
'But this family was ruled by Dad. If he found out Mom hit her, Mom would be in trouble. And I might get dragged into it too,' Meredith thought, meanwhile wondering how such a dimwit like her mom managed to become Mrs. Bradford.
Seeing her sweet, precious daughter, Sharon wished she could swap all her blood to make Meredith her biological daughter, growing even more disdainful towards Arielle.
Feeling relieved, she immediately comforted Meredith, "Don't cry, sweetheart. Your dad's just temporarily fooled by her. Whatever you want, Mom will get it for you. I won't let her outshine you."
Meredith nodded, putting on a smile.
She still had to go to the party today. All dressed up, she was ready to vent her grievances to her friends.
'Arielle, just wait, the future is long. One day, I'll make you beg me,' she sneered inwardly.
Soon, she left for the party.
Meanwhile, Arielle had Ethan Booth, the driver, take her straight to the heart of the city.
When she was out running errands yesterday, she didn't get a good look at the outside world.
'It's great to be alive!' she said inwardly.
